Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() QueenZipp - 2010-06-11 11:19 AM I am having serious doubts about the whole HIM thing this year......between the asthma flare that turned into creeping crud (which seems to want to linger) and the whole lack of sleep thing thanks to being 50 and female.....yeah....not fun. I have a drop back week next week (thank GOD) and will probably drop the plan to an easier level again until the body is more cooperative. Not going to pull the plug on it yet but it's a possibility for as lousy as I have felt....Anyway, going to keep working on the whole thing but am more than frustrated by the body's lack of cooperation. Judi, there is no doubt in my mind that you can complete this HIM. You've run half marathons, bike centuries, and every time you get in open water you seem to getting more and more comfortable. Plus you are one of the most persistent people that I know. I seen you deal with race adversity that would make a lesser person throw in the towel. Yeah, the no sleeping thing no fun. Plus it screws with recovery and makes it that much harder to get in the next quality workout. Hopefully the recovery week will do wonders for you and body will start to cooperate finally! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() dixrp - 2010-06-11 11:41 AM I have to brag and ask for encougagement, I copied this from my blog: Went to Fat Camp(Weight Loss Support Group)yesterday and got on scales, since 4/8 I have lost 51 lb of fat, put on 20 lb of muscle, for a net of 31 lbs(23 lb of fat lost, 6 lb muscle gained, net 17 lb loss last month). Starting weight 285, yesterday 254. I am stoked, I have been weighing at home, and I was afriad I was losing muscle but not the case. I know the easy weight is off and the next 30 lb(goal of 225) will be slower coming off, but that is OK. Training and eating right are so much easier now than when I started this two months ago. Running still sucks..........It is easier, but I still hate it, I would rather be biking or swimming. On a swim this week the water felt thick and I was struggling to swim smooth, I just thought to myself that I could be running today and everything from that point was easier! There is a Tri(1000 yrd swim, 19 miler, 4 mile run) next weekend I want to do, but not sure bout the run. The swim and bike piece of cake, I might just do Aqua Bike. Yes I have done 7 and 8 mile runs in the past couple of weeks but they were extermly slow and not following a swim and bike(which will be slow). I just hate the thought of being so slow, this is a race, damnit. I know I should not let pride keep me from doing it but................... Rob, good to hear from you! That is some fantastic progress in the weight loss department. Good for you! As for the race, if there's any chance you may have fun and enjoy it you might as well do it. You might not be quite be in the race shape you want, but it sounds like you really enjoy the biking and swimming so go for it, even if you suffer on the run a little. |

Good thing to, cuz todays storms were wicked!!! Rode the bike course in my car today and at least there are some good straight aways where I can get in my tri bars and pump through. Thanks for all the well wishers. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Sunday, all! I'm am EXHAUSTED, but just wanted to pop in quickly to say hi. I'll catch up on the thread maybe later today or tomorrow. I got back last night from my Madison to Chicago relay. I met up with my team around 6:45 am yesterday, and we loaded our vans and drove up to Madison. We got there around 10am, checked in, went through all the course and safety talks, organized our gear, etc. Our start was at 12 noon, and we went and saw our first runner off. Our team captain wasn't feeling too well, and after her first leg (around 8pm) she felt worse. Luckily by that time we were in Milwaukee which is her hometown, so her mom was able to come and bring her home. But then that meant we were one person short. So two people ended up having to run extra legs to make up for it. They even almost canceled the race yesterday around noon since there were thunderstorms rolling in. Luckily, they decided to let us continue, though they kept telling us they would stop letting runners go if they heard thunder or saw lightning. It even started raining while our last runner was out doing his last leg. We all waited for him in the rain at the finish line, and when he came we ran through the chute as a team. We finished just before 6pm, so our total time was just under 30 hrs for the 205 mile race. It was a lot of fun, but I'm way more sore than I expected, given that the run legs weren't all that long for me (5.65, 3.1, and 5.75 miles for a total of 14.5 miles with about 10 hrs rest in between). I really want to do it again next year! |

I'm pretty sure there's nothing like that around here... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is my race report. US Women's Racing Series - Naperville Triathlon I guess the short story is that my run really sucked, but I am not disappointed because I did really well in the swim and hammered the bike. I have a nice little bruise below my right eye from getting kicked right off into the swim. Don't worry I stuck in there and passed her ![]() So not sure what to do about the run. I don't think that if I let up on the bike that I would've gained more on the run than I would've given up on the bike. Maybe because I am athena, I needed a gu gel by second lap on the bike rather than waiting till t2? I was lagging a little on the 2nd lap of the bike, but I felt really good coming out of t2 for the run. Not sure what happened on the run (it was flat and not warm), but by under a half mile I was having a hard time. and walked about 1/3. Ran last mile, so at least felt good about that. You walk a finish with people lining the chute right? Got another sprint in 2 weeks, similar type course. Any thoughts? Thanks for all the encouragement. Carrie Race nutrition: Gu 20-25 minutes before swim Gu in t1 Gu in t2 Gatorade on bike and on run |

For a lot of people it's hard to find that balance between a how hard to bike and having a good run. For you, I know you been bothered by shin splints and knee issues recently. I think just getting in consistent run mileage will go a long ways to improving that running time. Nutrition looks to be plenty for a sprint |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am pulling out of my sprint on the 27th. Asked to be switched to a different sprint in August, RD will do it for health reasons. Just want to be sure this garbage is over before I race again. Sad, this is my favorite race. I did offer to volunteer it though. Still strongly considering withdrawing from the HIM. If I can't tolerate the build there's no way I can safely race the distance. I have to understand the difference between what I "can" do and what I am able to do/ should do....doesn't particularly make me happy but I think it may be the wiser choice. Haven't emailed about the HIM yet, I will wait until I see the pulmonary guy I was referred to today. |
