Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge riorio - 2011-01-25 6:22 PM I notice that some people are posting daily, I've been keeping track in a notebook (yes, I am so high tech) then adding at the end of the challenge week. Please dont think I am sandbagging, just dont have internet access at work to be able to add daily points. My BT logs are up to dat though and I want to thank this challenge for drawing my attention to the fact that although I train a lot, I dont eat well. Since starting this, I have gone from an average of 3 or 4 servings of fruit and veggies per day to sometimes 8!
Updating once a week is fine! Lots of people do that. I agree - I knew that I didn't eat well, but this challenge is making me realize just how poorly I eat. (Should I mention that I sat down at the computer with a bag of chocolates.... Hm... Hold on.... I'm putting the bag away.) |

I'm not entirely sure what the exact weight cutoff for it is but suffice to say I am tall and unless I starve myself to look like skeletor I am going to qualify. So, should I enter it or should I just stick with my age group? (Ideally I would like to drop down an age group to be honest because the 25-30 year olds around here are slower than the 30-35s, but I realise turning the clock back a few years is sadly not a valid option!). Rachel, I don't really have any advice other than what everyone else has already said. But this cracked me up because I thought almost the same thing this past summer. Only it was that I was bummed because I had to move to the 35-39 category, which is a heck of a lot faster than the 30-34! This aging thing stinks all around... What the?! Thats not the way its supposed to work! Pretty sure I'm going to race in my normal AG. There were only a few Athenas in the last tri and I could probably win on a good day but would come somewhere in the middle in my AG as usual. I think I might feel guilty picking Athena just so I could be in with a chance to win.... Don't feel guilty picking Athena. Go check out the Athena/Clyd forum to see heated chats on this! "Athena" isn't just for chubby people. I'm a chubby qualifier if that makes any difference... |

So good, that she doesn't have to get blood drawn for a whole week. It's the little things... So I celebrated by gettting a short run in tonight. Hubby was supposed to bike with me to kick off our latest weight loss competition... but he's still bumming around on the couch. What an excellent day - and it's only Monday!! I swear, I am not normally so chipper... Good to hear! I'm not in the challenge either and still visit. |

I have noticed people have stopped logging and that bothers me. Challenges are supposed to push people and not scare them away. Here is my question - how about we do a week 4 playoff and send PM or inspires to everyone that logged some points and we can have a final week free for all. We could even seed the top and bottom teams like someone suggested in the beginning based on point totals and have a 2 tier playoff for the final week. Just a suggestion to try and keep people motivated during the cold months of winter! I'm all for that - we seem to have lost a few people each week which is sad! My life has just been plumb goofy this month. If it isn't one thing, it's another - fortunately, we all have our health. I do feel bad for the little girl with the platelets -- I"m sorry, I'm drawing a blank on the name. Anyway - I'm actually doing more this month than I was in Dec. I'm just kind of pathetic right now. I"m sure to be in the "bottom tier" of the playoff - but with official half marathon training starting on 2/21 - I'll be ramping up the training. I just don't have the time to post here much. |

I love mid week holidays... I'm game to party too! BTW, is Australia Day like our Independence Day here in the states? No, its a bit of an odd one. It celebrates the landing of the first 11 convict ships from GB and the raising of the Union Jack. Anyway, basically these days everyone goes to the beach, has BBQs and drinks lots of beer. I did the first two anyway! |

The last part of the year we have all these holidays and then we enter the new year and my first holiday is Memorial Day in May. Tons of time off work, then no time off work. |

Extreme Veteran 671 Not Quite DFL | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge Hi Gang, I have a question for the group - especially any RD's out there. I am in charge of the local Knights of Columbus' race - this year two running groups have sprung up in the county. What is the normal custom for giving running club members a discount? Does the club have to be a sponsor? I am interested in doing this, but I want to do it right. Thanks guys - have a great weekend. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge I don't know the answer if there is a set protocol. I have seen discounted or freebie admit to a future race for people who head up part of the volunteer comittees. ie: coordinator of parking or food tent is going to require more work than sign in people, but both put a lot of time and effort into makig the race happen. I bet you could PM the bear and ask him, he does a good bit of RD duty. |

Time to move forward in endurance and speed, and chisle the triathlete hiding inside this tire. Hahaha Really though, I am getting leaner with all this training. MUCH leaner, but in the legs. This translates to the number of people staring at what they think is an early baby belly increasing exponentially. |

One thing I did think of was to divide up teams by how many hours a week you plan to train on average... i.e. Group 1- up to 6 hours a week, Group 2- 6-10 hours, Group 3- 10+ hours. This way you're competing against people who are at your level and each group has an individual winner. Also of course for those who are in the challenge this month, you would also want to improve your total point count from this month. Opinions??? Edited by Emmanem 2011-01-29 12:31 PM |
