Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti and Lynn, Mentors of the Manatee Melee: FULL Speaking of nuts--I'm going to attempt the Bali 10K Ocean Swim this weekend. Just posting to stay accountable. Especially for someone with a "Never say die" attitude, I need to be prepared to ditch if things don't go well. It's such an awesome race that benefits a group teaching disabled Indonesian kids to swim (and the kids show up to cheer us on, makes a hardcore athlete cry), and things in the water have a high potential to get REALLY bad, fast, so I don't want anything to happen. Plus, I'd like to live. |

I hope not I can't hang with people who don't understand "the madness" (it takes many forms and thankfully many types of communities as well as individuals do get it) ... but that's why triathletes are my kin. hahahaha! that's what happens after doing 3 hrs on my trainer and then :30 run during the evening. I couldn't fall asleep 'cause I was so wired in b-endorphins!! LOL I'M THE HAPPIEST manatee tonight! Soooo, after having a horrendous June that seriously affected my volume, I fell into a "I'm beyond scr---d" mentality since my first HIM of the year is in 5 wks (Steelhead) and the second one is 30 days thereafter (it is "Hi, I'm a Manatee and I'm a Nut" confession night, right?) Luckily, this year is about building mileage and learning how to run, not breaking speed records. (I plan to end the season proving the former by doing Nike's full 30 days after the 2nd HIM. Oh! God, I am so frikk--n certifiable. Why can't I see that?!! ) Then again I'm a La Vuelta finisher who signed up for it with hardly no climbing experience/training. I've been crazier and I'm good at "suck it up and finish it"---hahaha!
So, all day at work today I was dreading going to the pool 'cause I had not been there in eons. I was sure it was going to be carnage. ("Yes, Ma'm, that's your daughter's RoadID.") I go in, put my MP3 player blasting Lady Gaga, and, BADA BIM, BADA BOOM! 1,000 in 23 without a break. Yeah, I know that's slow. But since speed is not an issue for me this year and I'm behind in swim volume, to me that's a 1:30 pace LOL!!! It appears the gods are taking pity in my lunacy and helping me along! I still can't believe it. About 50 pounds of anxiety and (former) Catholic guilt gone!!! Last year I had OJ before the swim, got sick, started alone 'cause my wave had left already and had a horrendous swim. So, this year I plan to only have water and not touch any of the buoys. That will be a PR for me!! hahaha! Now, providing the Yang to that happy, Ying story: So, I've been using my custom made (read: sorry, Carol, your insurance doesn't cover the 350.00) ortho inserts for about 3 weeks to correct a shorter right leg. The arch support surely helps but I was beginning to feel a lot of pain around hips/waist/back like I did before the chiro gave me a temporary lift to wear in the right shoe. One of the inserts began to tear at the bottom. So I take it in this AM for the chiro to look at the tear and when she looks at both inserts, she was stunned to realized the company who made them DID NOT ADD THE 3MM LIFT TO THE RIGHT INSERT!!!!? Oooooh!!!! so ****that's**** why I'm in so much pain and continue to run slow! (well, let's not push it. Probably just the former.) She was really apologetic for not noticing that when I picked them up. And super pissed at the company. She checked my legs and sure enough I had a major length mismatch and she gave me an adjustment. She also did Graston on the problematic calf and she applied electrical stimulation to it to get it to contract/relax in cycles. That was a frikky experience!!! The leg was moving by itself and it felt weird LOL So, now I have to go visit her 2x/week for the next 2 weeks 'cause I'm entering peak and we need to keep the calf under control. I also start trigger point massage next week too. It was this calf that got busted right after the bike at last year's Steelhead and prevented me from running (except the last 1.5 miles. I ran like a caught in raid when the course marshal said I had about 20-25 mins to cross the finish line and be the last one to make the cut off for the race.) So, the correct inserts arrive next Thursday. In the mean time I have these ones and I put the lift underneath the right one. Sooo, true to keeping with my goal of being able to run well, this biomechanics issue is still not resolved. But, relative to this point last year, I haven't injured that calf nor its hammy like I did last year. So, it looks, to play it safely, I may have to run/walk the HIMs 'cause I consider Nike's my A race and would like to run all of it. But since SH took me 8:51, statistically speaking, there's a good chance I'll PR both HIMs this year LOL!! Good luck in your swim Mama Manatee Yanti!

And one of those gnarly ones from Pirates of the Caribbean. Way to go girlfriend!! That is now officially my favorite graphic in the whole wide world. I have a thing for mermaids, I have a thing for Manatees (ya noticed? no, really?), and I have a fatal attraction to redheads Actually what's really funny is I think the mermaid is Lynn. She looks just like that and she's all wise and gracious and patient. I am *definitely* the manatee. I can swim fast, but I'm kind of short and funny and curvy, although my skin is not so grey. Very happy and cartoonish and frolicking, though. |
