4 days and counting til my first HIM - I am ready! I am still having this leg/knee weird thing going on and my trainer thinks it is a sciatic nerve from increased distances and miles. I finally agreed to go see her doctor as she has assured me that he is very pro working out and will not tell me that I can't do the race. That has been my main fear and why I have put this off for so long. I know that I will do the race no matter what, but it would be nice to have some exercises to help reduce the pain.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Good luck on your first HIM Jill!  I hope everything goes well for you!  I can't wait to hear all the details.

Kendra, Great job on the walk!  Your group raised a lot of money!

Z, Good luck on your 10k!  We'll be cheering you on.

I need to get some motivation here and a good swift kick in the butt.  I lost it when I pulled my muscle and haven't been able to get it back. I've been seeing a chiro and this is the first time I've went to one.  There are so many appointments.  He wants to see me 2x a week for 4 weeks.  I have a 1/2 mary I'm signed up for Dec 8th.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Good luck this weekend JILL!

Z, your plans sound awesome.  And I'm jealous b/c you'll get to meet shelly...she's from my hometown, but I haven't ever met her!

Mel...I totally understand.  Injuries of any sort can really mess with your mind.  Focus on what you CAN do.  Any idea why this started?  Injuries suck!  But you WILL be stronger from it all!

How did the races go this weekend ladies?  Jill's first HIM and Z’s 10K .

Sorry to hear about the pulled muscle, Mel.  Hope it heals quickly.

Now that I don't have any TRI races scheduled I have been a little slack in my swimming and biking.

Running though, I have joined the October run challenge and have been working hard to increase my running.  Right now I am doing 60 sec run, 90 sec walk.  I've done between 1 & 2 miles doing this.  Next week I'm supposed to go to 90 sec runs, 60 sec walks.  Who knows we might make a runner out of me yet. LOL

Kendra, that sounds like a great plan for running!  Good for you!  I'm barely swimming or biking either...it's all about the running right now

I'm sitting at home with a GI virus.  I swear, every time my kids get any stomach stuff...I get it too!  I spent my entire weekend in bed (and we were on vacation in Crested Butte).  Lovely.

I'm in TOTAL suspense, dying to hear results of races!!!

Hi girls

I had a GREAT race this past weekend...was shocked at how competetive I am! I raced in the Athena catagory...but we were started by our swim times gotta love that!!!!

I felt really good most of the race accept for the first half mile of the run. My legs really cramped up bad and it was hard but I did not walk. I am 20 pounds lighter than my last tri and I could tell on the run. I had some friends there that really helped me (Mel!!!) and encouraged me during the race.

I placed 2nd in my race catagory and 63 out of 415 overrall. I was very pleased with my swim and my bike times, the running as always could use help. My transitions also need help :0 I did not get competetive until the bike when i thought to myself that I actually might place!

It was a great experience at this race! Please see my race report for details.

12 days counting down to d day for surgery i am starting to freak out! hope you all had good races and are doing well!

Heather, you have accomplished so much in the past year.  The weight loss, the races.  Placing second in your group, that is awesome.

Make it through your surgery and then the sky will be the limit for you.  I bet your kids think you are the greatest!  Your hubby too!

Keep up your spirits through your recovery period and we will be ready to help you get back to shape when you are ready.

Go Girl!

I am so proud of Heather and feel so lucky to call her my friend!  I volunteered at the race and cheered her on in the swim & run.  You should've seen her swim, Wow!  She is so efficient & fast.  She easily placed in the top 5 in the swim out of everyone in the race.  She had an excellent bike time & ran the whole way.

WTG Heather! Woohoo!

Heather - congrats on an awesome race! You have made some great progress.

Z - How was the 10k?

Cathy - glad to see you are feeling better!

Kendra - good luck with the running!

My first HIM was last Sunday and overall it was a great event. Endorfun Sports puts on an amazingly organized and fun triathlon. They do events all over and this was the first year for Longhorn, but very organized. The aid stations even had ice water at the end of the race which was a huge bonus since it was about 92 degrees out with high humidity. I am not sore at all which leads me to believe that I didnt' push myself hard enough on the run. It was just too hot and there was NO shade! Here is my race report for more info http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=93182&posts=14&start=1

Great job girls! My 10 K is not until December, so I have time to relax a little. I'm healing my Achilles tendon right now, I might have overdone hill running ;-(

You guys are awesome

Jill, congrats on the HIM.  Boulder is the same way with no shade for running.....not easy when you are out running and it's HOT by then!  Great work!

OK, so Z has a 10K in December.  Anyone else have any events upcoming?  I have the Philly marathon on 11/18 and between my soleus injury in May and being sick recently, I feel ill prepared for it, but I'll do my best.  I think my only goal will be to finish!

Jill, way to go on the HIM.

I've got the Las Vegas 1/2 marathon on Dec 2nd. Then I'll be doing a 5K on New Years Eve and New Years Day. One of those I hope to be able to run the whole course without walking. That is my running goal.

I ran for a whole mile (on the treadmill) yesterday without any walking. That was so exciting to be able to go the mile without stopping or walking. But today my right knee is killing me. This is the one I had surgery on about 3 or 4 years ago. You get to my age and all the years begin to run together.

This has been a great year and I'm so glad that you all have been a part of it with me. I have really enjoyed my BT time with this great group.

Kendra, the Las Vegas half sounds like fun   Anything in Vegas sounds fun (mostly).  And the 5Ks ending and starting new years....what a great idea!  Congrats on the running, doing one mile non stop is GREAT!  Hope the knee behaves though!

Hello, Hello...anybody out there? Just thought I would check in to see what is going on with everyone. I am doing a 5k race tomorrow night and still following my marathon training plan and trying to decide whether or not I am up for it. I am also really excited as my trainer at the gym is going to be doing a holiday boot camp and I REALLY need to do better at getting in more strength training. Hope everyone is enjoying their fall and getting in some good workouts!

Hey Jill,

I'm living in runners world. I've been working hard to increase my running. I just did 2/5 miles in 31 minutes, so I'm psyched. I've been part of the running challenge this month. My goal was to do 30 miles and I'm now at 27.5. I should be able to get the last 2.5 in tomorrow and then I can coast to the end of the month. I'm also signing up for the November challenge which is a choose your own. I said I would run 45 miles, swim 4000m, and bike 30 miles. I know the bike and swim are low, but I'm concentrating on my running. I want to run the 5K on New Years Eve this year.

Good luck with your race and the boot camp sounds great. You'll have to share what they put y ou through and how your muscles felt.

I am in San Antonio for a few days for a conference....very cool.  Got to meet a BTer (tri-chic) today which was great!  I like running at a lower altitude too

Jill....any further thoughts on the marathon?

Kendra, do you plan to run some of your 1/2 in December?

I am thinking about it. The group that I do the 1/2 mary's with are walkers, but one of them ran/walked a marathon about 4 years ago. We might try to run walk this one together. We shall see. It will partly depend on how well I do with my training this month.

Enjoy San Antonio. I was there for a conference about two years ago and it is a beautiful little city.

Heather - take care of yourself and enjoy some well deserved rest time!

Cathy - As for the marathon, I think I am going to go for it. We did our 18 mile run on Saturday and I felt great. We kept a good pace and I think I can do it. I am planning to run it with my dad who will probably avg around a 12 min mile. That is totally fine with me!

OK, I registered for my first marathon. Some days I think "What in the world I am doing?". I went to a party Saturday night where we were talking to some people who are runners who just kept saying, "Oh, I could NEVER do a full marathon," which is exactly what I thought at this time last year.

Happy Halloween! I have certainly eaten my fair share of candy, good thing I am training for a marathon, otherwise I think I would be getting a larger size pants.

Hi all!  Heather, I'm glad all went well!  Hope you are healing quickly.

Kendra, San Antonio was great!  And you have only one month to VEGAS baby!

Jill....WOO HOO!  What is the date of the race?

I have my last long run before my marathon this weekend.  My running sucks this season.  It's gotta get better.  Halloween was a blast last night!  I'm going to have to post pictures of my kiddos.  And other than that, I'm trying to stay above water with everything else going on!  LOL!
