karen26.2 - 2013-01-22 9:25 PM Wow - only 28% female? Is that the norm for other IM's? What did I get myself into?

This is all your fault!  I have the texts to prove it.

Cold weather tip:

Keep your eye out for a cheap windbreaker that you can wear at the start and throw out at an aid station once it warms up.  You want it fairly tight.

(6 months 27 days...)

I was curious so I typed in Ironman Lake Tahoe to Facebook and two group have formed.  FYI in case you are wanting for buzz around the race.

Two things I found interesting in scanning the open group:

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/165112098

And of course the monster goldfish hitting the news: http://news.yahoo.com/monster-goldfish-found-lake-tahoe-193345402.h... I am hoping they keep the mass start for IM; I like it.

Hi triathletes!

Sounds like there is a lot of excitement building for Lake Tahoe. My wife and I have been doing triathlons for 20 years with ~35 ironmans between the two of us including 6 inspirational races on the big island. We would love to share any advice or tips with anyone that has questions. Another plus is the fact that we live right on the ironman course and have been living/training on the very same trails/roads/water before it even became official.

We are also working to provide training plans and perhaps a camp or two in the summer (once the snow clears). The temps do indeed vary from -20F up to the 80s as this micro-climate has some pretty impressive records but we believe September will be ideal!

Ping me if you're interested!

Has anyone used any of the BT coaching programs? I'm pretty self-motivated, and we are a little over 6 months out, so I'm going to get on a legit program here shortly. The customized gold program with monthly coaching seems like a decent option for me but i wanted to get some advice from those of you that have used this system. This will be my second Ironman so I know how important a good consistent program is.

For the people out there stressed about the altitude, I wish there was a way to sugar coat it. Plan on performing about 15%-25% less than you would at sea level. I lived in San Diego and raced in Colorado several times and every time it kicked my butt. The swim and the run are where you really notice it. The best performances I had was when I trained at sea level just above my threshold/comfort level. It simulated the lack of oxygen pretty well.

When is everyone else starting their official training?  Several of us are doing the Endurance Nation intermediate plan and rumor has it that we will start on Cinco de Mayo.  What are the rest of you guys doing?

Until the start day, I am doing a well-modified version of the EN outseason plan, augmented by illness, injury, and several fun running things that I chose to do instead of the planned workouts.  I am a bit concerned about my swim fitness with no swimming during the outseason, but am hoping that my base will allow me to do a fast ramp up when training starts.

Started my program at the end of February.  I'm using the same program that I used last year for IMTX which seemed to work pretty well for me.  Have a couple run events planned and then the June Lake Tri in July.   Hope everyone's training is going good.  Stay safe out there

This is my first Full Ironman!  Very excited! I am lucky because I live in Colorado and I can jump on my bike and be climbing hills in a sort 7 mile ride. I have signed up for the Triple Bypass this year. The ride is 120 miles from Evergreen, CO to Avon over Juniper Pass (11,140 ft.), Loveland Pass (11,990 ft.), Swan Mountain and Vail Pass (10,560 ft.), with over 10,000 ft. of elevation gain. I sure hope it helps with the Tahoe ride.

Everyone seems much more advanced then I am. Anyway, hope I can get this done.

Anyone else in the Denver Area looking to ride let me know! I will be the girl on the pink bike riding up Deer Creek, High Grade and Lookout Mountain every Saturday!!

Open to any and all advice!! See you all in Tahoe!

Any consensus on what the expected water temperature will be?  Looks like average weather is around 70 degrees, right?

I guess I started training in earnest in January.  Mainly just base building until Pacific Crest half in late June.  Then it's on to serious Tahoe training!  I'll be heading up to Whistler to check out that course in late July during a training camp, and am starting to consider an unofficial "training weekend" in Tahoe sometime in August.

The water temp will be close to 70 I think, and that's perfect.  You can go full sleeve or sleeve less.

I've finally slipped back into a tri frame of mind after the last 6 months or so of dedicated run/ultra training and racing. Did my first 50k a few weeks back, and recently set a 5k PR.Just signed up for an Olympic that's in 3 weeks, so I dragged the trainer and bike into the living room yesterday, and got a good 1500 in at the pool this morning. Nothing else on the official calendar before Tahoe, but Im sure Ill do a few races.

Subject: Swim Start Question

I just watched the film from South Africa which raised a swim start question.

It looks like South Africa's start has everyone lined up on the beach and the guns goes off.  At Lake Placid, you tread water behind the start line (or you can wait on the beach) but most are dispersed in the water when the gun goes off.

Has anyone seen anything on what Tahoe will be like? In looking at the maps, it's looking like we'll be penned up on the beach when the gun goes off.

Has anyone seen anything to counter that?
