Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No meat, caffeine, sodas or anything else with high sodium. As a kid I could eat absolutely anything. However, since 1991, I haven't been able to eat any type of meat. The docs were baffled but think we (my sister has the same problem) were having a bad reaction to additives (steroids, antibiotics etc) being actively pumped into meats at the time, and organic meat was not easily available. We've both been pescatarians since then (or as my mother likes to call us "pesky vegetarians), as we can still eat seafood. I do miss meat (lamb and bacon especially), but have got remarkably creative, especially in the use of spices. In addition, like all the women in our family, I also have an inner-ear balance problem that I've had all my life. However, mine was made much worse by a virus I caught in the early 90's that did further damage. I sometimes get extremely dizzy, and if I don't lie down immediately, then I can black out. It can make getting out of the water after cold/long OWS/tri's a bit interesting as I stagger around like I've drunk 8+ pints. It's also took me months to get used to treadmills as initially I felt like I was going to throw-up afterwards, but now I just feel like I'm floating on clouds for about 10-20 minutes afterwards, which is very funky! As the attacks can come on with no warning, I don't drive a car anymore (although I could in the US, but would have severe restrictions in the UK/Australia), so now I just cycle everywhere. To keep my inner-ears somewhat happy, I can't have/do: (1) caffeine, (2) drink lots of fluids at once, (3) do recreational drugs, (4) sodium, so I mostly have a low sodium diet (which is hard in Arizona, especially training in the summer), and (5) no alcohol. Well, 4 out of 5 ain't bad, right????? I absolutely point-blank-refuse to give up my wine, beer, Armagnac, whisky etc, but I don't drink as much as I used to Now back to dreaming about bacon, again |

Go through survival training and everything is fair game. Starvation is a wonderful appetite stimulant. I tend to draw the line at consuming our canine and feline friends. I think i'd eat a dog or cat before I would drink my mother's milk.... |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Won't eat lima beans. Odd, cause I love any other bean including the kidney beans, garbanzos and black beans.... Avoid "white food" over processed things. Stick as much as possible to whole grain. Avoid sugar, don't do sugar substitutes any more. Managed to lose the desire for them. Don't like milk but do eat cheese, cottage cheese & yogurt. Coffee is a food group, full caffeine. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KSH - 2012-11-30 12:30 PM There are a lot of things I don't eat because I find them gross. Too many to list. But I believe you wanted to know what foods we avoid for health reasons. Basically stuff we want, but we avoid eating. Right? First off, nothing is completely off limits for me. BUT I do consume the unhealthy stuff in moderation. For example, I love Pop Tarts. I know they are complete crap. So I haven't had one in probably 3 years. Can I eat one? Sure. But I make the choice to keep walking past them at the grocery story because I know I can't afford to eat them... calorie wise. I will also drool over ice cream and some cookies in the store. My rule of thumb though is that I can't buy the stuff and I need to go out and buy it. That way, I have to make a conscious decision and there is effort behind me getting it. Otherwise, most of the stuff I stay away from is simply because I don't want to eat it. . I removed the last line, not vegetarian. Pretty much the rest except replace Pop Tarts with Chips A Hoy or just about any cookie. I hate to admit that I LOVE soda I wish I didn't but I do. I can go months without having it and then I will have to much of it. I recently weaned myself from it. Not to say I was drinking silly amounts but probably 4-5 per week. I made it a 'weekend only' rule and now I am off completely hoping to make it through the holidays. It can be tough when I am the DD and need to stay up late. |

And how'd the COJerazzi miss this little gem? Up until this year, I had four foods I wouldn't touch, only due to taste. This year, I've slayed 3 of 'em, which only leaves one substance I just can't choke down: black licorice. Otherwise, if it's edible, I'm great with it, and my stomach is too...it's the original disposal, for which I'm eternally grateful. |

Start with some Black Jack chewing gum...perhaps that could be your black licorice gateway item. |
