So the Ironman in Kona comes down to the last minute, and the first place guy loses because of a completely wrong rule violation (lets say drafting). He should have just run faster? When people say these things it doesn't fly with me.

Yes there were other missed opportunities, but if points, or in this case a legit turn over at the end of the game is taken away, it does very much impact the game, despite the rest of the game.

ESPN is reporting that the NFL is considering fining Brooks. Looks like it might not be such an unclear case after all.

Bennett was fined for the hit you listed earlier as one of your gripes. Do you consider that case clear?

As an aside, Bennett should be fined for this:

It is clear, but it's also clear the rules are silly in that instance.

NFL did in fact fine Brooks.

You can't make forcible contact to the head or the neck area, even if the contact starts below the neck and rises up. If there's force to that contact, it's a foul. Watch the initial contact, maybe around the shoulder, but it rides up into the neck area and brings the quarterback down with force.

So, ignoring for a minute whether or not this is a bad call, if the NFL is going to fine players for plays like this or Bennett's tackle lat week, why aren't they fining face mask penalties as well? Both are player safety penalties and it's obvious that the NFL isn't considering intent in handing out fines, so why the difference? I have no problem with fines for "dirty" plays, but fining players for another player ducking into a hit or for making a legitimate football play is rather ridiculous.

If they did not fine brooks they would have been basically saying that they made the wrong call and when is the NFL ever wrong? He'll appeal it and it will get reduced or whatever, but the NFL saves face by handing out a bogus fine on a bogus call to show that they have the ref's back.

Or, just maybe, it could be the correct call, the correct interpretation of the rule, that stood up under post-game scrutiny. Not that the BT "experts" could ever be convinced of that.

Did anyone else see last night how the Saints clearly whacked Ryan in the facemask and got away with it?

Campbell got destroyed by a palm slap to the head today and knocked out of the game with a likely concussion, no penalty.

Romo had a forearm brush the side of his helmet and got 15 yards.

Bad week for officiating.

The guy from Carolina that got the no-call on the PI in the endzone against New England got away with a helmet-to-helmet hit in the endzone against Miami yesterday.

It's funny to see what passes as football conversation these days............. the game has become somewhat of a joke from my view.

I have to kind of agree. Even watching a game like the Pats/Broncos, which I have zero care who wins because I want both teams to lose, I can't watch a single good play without watching for a flag to fly negating it. Replays are no longer to see good plays again, they are to see whether there was a penalty, and if so, was it called correctly.
