That's because of the heat. The forge is open and the fires are hot. AZ Iron men are not born. They're forged in the desert between June and September. I feel so puny after my long ride or long run. I'm told sometime in September it will all change for the better. It's September. I'm ready for the change. Going to get Gatorskin tires and start riding the bike course on Sunday mornings. Probably listening to Neil Diamond singing "September Morning".

Amen to that. September 1. Here we go!

Here's to feeling like all this training is paying off, soon.

I'm SO glad to hear this. (Not that everyone is feeling the pain), but to hear that I'm not the only one. My runs have been Horrible lately. I feel like I have 10lb weights on each foot.

I hear some of the bike shops will set up aid stations along the bike route on weekends during October and leading up to race day. I'll be on the bike course tomorrow. I'll be parking at the gas station at McDowell and Country Club. Anybody else riding tomorrow?

This should be some good motivation the day before the race.

My goodness this is a quiet thread. I did IMAZ in 2013 and had a great time! My only regret wasn't signing up for it again this year
I will be there this year to volunteer for you guys and sign up for 2015. Have a wonderful time!

I did a 15 mile run last week, a 65 miler on the bike and a 1.5 mile swim, feeling nowhere near ready. The advent of fall temperatures where I have to wear gloves for every ride has really messed with my psyche. gotta move someplace warm or quit doing these fall races.

I feel ya. I had to move my century ride onto the trainer this past weekend due to the weather. Never mind that most everything has been done solo since most everyone has put their bikes away for fall/winter. It has definitely made this a mentally tough training season......we're almost there!!!!!

My bib number is 3090. I did a HIM race last week (Soma) and did pretty well. I finished with 10 minutes to spare! Still fine tuning my nutrition on the bike. All the hard training is behind me. See all y'all in a couple of weeks.

I'd be happy if the water temperature was a little warm, but not too warm. I want to wear my wetsuit!

Here is a link to the temp. I remember back in 2012, the temp started going down pretty quick from mid October until Race day.

Just under 2 weeks out. Taper has started. I am having a hard time concentrating at work. Brain is constantly on the race and what needs to be done. It will be exciting once I am on a plane and headed to sunny Arizona. Until then, just need to pass the time.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi everyone!

Ironman Arizona on 11/16 will be my 4th time at IMAZ. My first IM was IM Arizona in April 2006 (that's my profile image, starting out on the run).  My second and fastest (11:53) was IM Arizona April 2007.  My third was April 2008, that was the year they had a second iM Arizona in November, and it's been in November since.  I've done a total of nine IMs, but I haven't managed to make it back to Arizona.  In 2011, I signed up but dropped out because it was the same weekend as my middle daughter's Dad's Weekend at college. I didn't want to disappoint her.  In 2012, I signed up but dropped out because of work pressures and time constraints.  And I signed for this last race, and was training hard, but then I crashed and broke my collarbone and that was that.  And not only did I have to cancel IM Arizona, I also had to drop out of IM Los Cabo last March, because it's just too close.

Earlier in the year I'd been hoping to be able to train hard enough to PR this race, but family and work got in the way (as they do, triathlon is #3 priority) and anything in the 12:xx range would be great by me.  My training is been appropriate to achieve that.. I'm a back of pack swimmer, middle of pack cyclist, and a faster runner. I pride myself on running the entire run and pace the bike accordingly.

I've been in Tempe many times for races, marathon, volunteer to register for the race, and so on.  I'm planning on the usual taper run, bike, and practice swims and so far conditions look just great.  I'm happy the lake monitor says 68 degrees.

If there are any meet-ups planned I'd be happy to go.  My wife and I are staying at the Tempe Mission Palms, right there on Mill.

The weather has been looking favorable for race day. My app is showing 73.

Final week!! Can't believe we are only a few days away. I have one more day of work, then will be at home on Wednesday & Thursday before flying down to AZ on Friday.
This week has been a whirlwind of emotions..nervous, happy, excited, pissed off, nervous, edgy etc.. Seems to change ever hour!

Well, hope everyone has a good week and best of luck keeping your focus!!

Last 5:00 am swim! We pack up the car and drive part of the way tonight and finish up tomorrow. Looking forward to leaving so I can stop worrying about whether or not I've forgotten to pack anything. I'm still surprisingly calm, but I'm sure that will change very soon! I know I've done everything I can to prepare over the last 51 weeks, so I'm ready race.

It is my opinion that even though everyone else considered her a triathlete, she did not consider herself one. I think she still felt like she had no fitness direction and had given up on triathlon.
