At 6'5" this is my weight history:

In the fall of 2006 I was 246lbs

In June 2008 I was 215 lbs

Currently, hmm... 220 lbs (after a nice, long summer vacation)

My goal is to be under 215 lbs. This would be just fine for me. Pretty much a clyde for the rest of my life

265lb. I dont know what I am doing wrong but I am not losing any weight. I have steadily increased my training load, not to quick, as a real beginner, but after a couple of months no weight lost. Sure I am feeling a better, I feel pretty good, but I would have thought I would loose some weight along the way. Bummer really. I figure nothing would help me improve more than being lighter.

Anyway I will just keep plodding along and enjoying it.

I find training for a triathlon and weight lose 2 seperate things I do at the same time. Yes working out will help me lose weight but I count my cals and that is the only way I can lose. Yes my training helps my weight lose, and weight lose makes me faster than my training but I can not relay just on training to lose weight.

Started tri training in May of 2005 at 330+ pounds.  I say "330+" because the scale only went up to 330 and then went "OL" (overload).  So, I could have been anything, although I figure I was around 340.

Today, I am around 225 and feel pretty comfortable at this weight.  I'd like to lose a bit more, but I'm not in a desire to starve myself for the sake of a number.

June 1, 2007 I was probably just over 260lbs

Today I keep bouncing between 180 - 183lbs, would like to be down to about 175, still working on it.

This should give you an idea of the progression. Progression Gif

for those of you not losing weight...

I had the same issue when I started training for my first tri 3 months ago. I threw away all weight training - which i did about 3x per week and went straight cardio.

didn't work.

I've re-incorporated ST (short times) and i've started losing again. For me to reach goal i have to lift.

just a thought. not to start some long drawn out discussion, but try it and see if it works for you.

I haven't lost much weight at all during tri training, but I had problems with losing weight just working out and not having a focus too.  I'm still working on dialing in my diet.  I also recently started lifting again and I have lost a few inches and toned up quite a bit.  I'm still working things out and I have faith that I'll start losing again.   I whole heartedly agree that body fat testing is key because it gives you perspective on a goal weight more than the scale does.

After the initial 20lbs that i lost from 255 to 235, my weight has stablized, i am eating more, and more healthy, but it takes alot of energy to move 235 lbs around during workouts. What I have noticed is that my waist is getting smaller, i feel bloated alot less and my clothes are fitting a little looser and my endurance is increasing in leaps and bounds weekly. So I am not so concerned with being lighter, but being healthier and stronger. Muscle weighs more than fat...so if i am a jacked 225 or soft 215, i think i am beter off being a little heavier. Hope this makes sense. I am also 6' 1" so i am carrying the weight a little better. My Problem was I tend to get middle heavy if you know what i mean. Santa Clauseish. Embarassed

I always see this in various threads and always look for them. For someone who is new to training but not new to the weightloss world it's encouraging to see when others begin succeeding.

What was your pre-tri training weight? Current? How long? (if you know body fat throw that in there too)

started May 2008 @ 251

current @ 238

I'm hoping with good eating this propels me into the body I've wanted. I'm much happier with tri training - i can definetly tell you that!!

and as a gift to myself I'm going for body fat testing.

your turn!

Wow, you rock Jim!  Welcome to BT!!

My stats are not so impressive, but maybe my story will strike a chord...

Age 34  Height 6'0"

Max weight = 183 about 10 years ago, then 178 for a long time, then 173 etc...

Current weight = 163

I came to triathlon and running as a newbie weighing 20 pounds heavier than I do now.  I was a big, jiggly "lady clyde" (pre-Athena days!).  Adding some running to my cycling habits really started to convince me that I could change my body weight.  Lifting weights a few years later began to reshape my body into the actual physique that I always wanted.  I discovered my shoulders, glutes, abs, quads and hamstrings loved the challenge and responded by getting stronger while making me leaner.  Body fat percent dropped and my interest in weight-training rose.

I decided to self-study for personal training certification and learned even more.  Plus, I got to work at my gym part-time where I could help women like me get leaner and get more endurance as well as strength.  It's been so great training women for the last 3 years -- I have a supportive boyfriend who doesn't mind my extra time away from home and great staff/co-workers at the gym.  I'm more fit and more self-aware than ever, so my training has been injury-free and very rewarding.

Now I get to be among the faster, lighter Athenas...set PR's most seasons...and occasionally bring home some nice hardware.   It's been a great journey so far, and it continues...

I've learned a lot and grown a lot through BT.com -- this is a great community for dreamers and achievers!   You can reach your goals.  Believe it!

Cheers, -Sunny

Well I have been around the block with weight so to speak.

1994 high school 289
1995 after Marine Corps bootcamp 171
1999 after Marine Corps 210
2004 after eating 365 (had to weigh on vet scale)
2006 280
2008 January 1st 340
now after weighwatchers and tri training 280

I have one more race left this year and then I will concentrate on longer volume building training and limited calories in hopes of dropping more weight in the off season.

I absolutely love triathlons and I think that I finally found a way to stick with getting healthy.

YEA!

Starting weight 257 as of 9/1/08, been training about three weeks.  Current weight 244.1, I still have a long way to go but so far down 13lbs, thanks to preplanning my meals (all of them) and keeping a log of everything that goes in my mouth.

This is such encouraging stuff - from Sunny the once jiggly athena to fitness trainer and race winner, to wingsfan and the progression, to so many other stories of incredible transformations.  I feel like some kind of anamoly in that I started training religiously back in April for my first tri (which I ran last week), and got in much better shape - while my weight went from 260 to 265.  This past week, after the race, I've had the best times ever in all my training, dropping below 2 mins per 100yrds in my swims, running under 10 min/miles for my runs and biking over 20 mph on my mtb.

I'm watching my times and fitness improve while my weight hovers or even rises.  I'm adding weight trainig back into my workouts and looking for other adjustments for off season training.  I think monitoring more closely my nutrition is a must, any other suggestions?

Todd

Hey, I'm new and have been lurking. I figured this is as good a place to jump in as any! Hi everybody.

 HT: 5'10"

Heaviest: 183-so I started running in 2004- I got down to 150. Slowly gained it back and then got sluggish after having breast reduction surgery last fall. Glad to get those things out of the way.

Current :  164-ish

Goal:  151

I am running my first 5k race this Saturday.Smile

Welcome to BT!  I love your name....gotta love 30 Rock!

I'd love to hear more about your breast reduction, as I am going to hopefully get one this winter.  If you like we can PM about that.  I'm just always looking for success stories to keep me motivated toward doing it.

Good luck in your 5k this weekend. I am doing my first 10k this weekend, as far as racing goes.  I've done 12ks, 10k trail runs and a lot of 10k practice runs, but not just a plain old 10k.
