Master 1457 MidWest | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL I'm here! I have Spanish on Tuesday/ Thursday evenings and 15 other hours the rest of the week. I'm out for a run today. Calls for a bike tomorrow BUT I'm going to do a run instead because I have a 5K race on Saturday. Found out yesterday afternoon that the university pool is closing March 1st so they can start construction of a new sports facility. That means that my pool workouts will have to be better planned since I will have to drive to the nearest pool! I really liked being able to walk 2 1/2 blocks to the pool. Now it will be a 10 minute drive |

Veteran 242 | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL I'm here too! What's happened to the rest of our team????? I worked a super long day yesterday, but today was much better. I'm scheduled for weights today. Tomorrow a six mile walk (after I take my dad to the airport). it's supposed to be REALLY cold, so I may end up on the dreadmill for the first time this winter. |

Extreme Veteran 591 Miami, FL | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL I'm such a dumba--... I completely forgot we mentees in TriMom's mentor group had a forum thread all to ourselves. I could've been posting here since the group started. Duh! Oh well... But -- I've caught up on the previous 2 pages, and I'll catch up a little here (apologize if this is long), and am here, present and accounted for. But most of you know I've been pretty good about posting on my blog, and have just completed goal #1 for 2007 - run a 5K from start to finish! My weekly workout is on my blog, but I'll post it here on Mondays as well. I think its a good idea. My next event is the Feb11 Duathlon. Which means I've got to get on the bike. eh. Not looking forward to it. Also, another ongoing goal I have is to workout in the morning. This phenomenom of inability to get out of bed early in the mornings is kicking my . Enough already. I have to work long hours, and I just have to train in the mornings. That's it. About the age, my bday is April 5th, and I'll turn 41. I'm looking forward to it, almost as much as when I turned 40 last year. So far, I'm loving my 40s. My next big life decision is whether to go back to school, or adopt a child. I'm single so the adoption is what is really scaring me to do by myself. I will certainly learn from all of you on this subject from reading your posts. Already I know how challenging parenting can be from my brother, who has a 2 and 4 yr old. Don't know if I can do it. Enough catching up... hope everyone has a great week! February is a brand new month! Edited by carisima 2007-01-28 1:03 PM |

Master 1457 MidWest | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL I finished my first race of 2007 with a PR. It wasn't pretty but it is something to build on. McFuzz and I are planning of volunteering at Steelhead and him doing the HIM at Racine, WI on that Sunday and me possibly doing the Sprint Tri on the Saturday prior!! I'm excited at the prospect that I will be able to do it and scared at the same time that I will not be a strong enough swimmer to be in the lake swimming. I guess that's what practice is for. I told McFuzz this afternoon that if he wanted to compete there istead that would be OK with me BUT iwanted to be there on Thirsday before my race so that I could at least practice swimming in the ocean once before the race. SOO-- my question to you guys---do you think I've lost my mind?!?!? Edited by BAMBAM66 2007-01-28 1:17 PM |

Veteran 242 | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL Let me tell you about the swim on my first tri (Dancekin NJ). I had pool trained and could swim a mile and I had done a few ocean swims. I felt confident! I rented a wetsuit because the water was around 68 degrees and I was ready. The bell started and I was all the way at the back of the pack because I didn't want to get in anyones way (I'm a slow swimmer). Well... the water was soooo cold, there were feet everywhere and I couldn't get in a groove, I couldn't go anywhere... So I stopped and waited a little then started to swim, but still having a hard time. I started treading water and then I started to panic. I felt like the wet suit was strangling me and the water was so salty and I just got scared, I thought "oh no, I might not even finish the swim, let alone the race!". That's when I looked up and saw one of the swim angels looking at me with concern. You know what? I got ticked! I did not need ANYONE worrying about me, I had trained and darnit I was going to swim! So... with all my training, I flipped over and backstroked the whole darn thing
So do I think you're crazy? Absolutley not! Do I think you can do it? If I can backstroke the freezing filthy water off NJ anyone can |

Expert 721 | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL Hi All! I haven't been missing, but I've been keeping up with people's blogs and forgot about this thread ! Plan plan right now is just base building for the time being, and keeping consistent with my workouts (as well as losing a couple more pounds!). As for the swim- you aren't crazy! My first tri was in lake Ontario, and there were 3-4 foot waves (and the water was chilly)! I'm not a strong swimmer (and I'm better than I was then!). I was petrified, but I just jumped in and did the breastroke through the waves to the turnaround, then body surfed back! (that was kinda fun ). I survived without a problem, and even went on to do more tris! |

Extreme Veteran 591 Miami, FL | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL Well I'm finally going to head back to the pool in February (next week). I'm a little apprehensive because I'm vulnerable to ear and sinus infections. I don't know if the weight loss will have something to do with making me less vulnerable. I do now I need to get new ear plugs, and write down EXACTLY what I need to do after each swim in the way of drying my ears, rinsing them with something, etc., so that I don't forget to do anything after each swim. Any suggestions? I'm planning on going 3xs per week in the mornings. I'm also super excited because I love swimming. |

Suggestions for ears? I have heard that a few drops of 1/2 rubbing alcohol and 1/2 white distilled vinegar works well- there are commercial preparations also. The vinegar disinfects and the alcohol dries. Good luck - swimming is a good thing (that I should do more of...) |

I'm going to look for the commercial prep first, and if I don't find it then I'm cooking up some of that home remedy. I gotta go try on my bathing suit to see how I "look" - oh god... I forgot I hate this part too. Once I'm in the pool I'm ok. oh god... |

Nope, I didn't fall off the planet after all This is probably TMI, but some months Mother Nature just beats the crap out of me and this was one of those months. I knew it was coming when I had a lower back ache while swimming last friday. I never get a lower back ache unless it's related to my cycle. Anyhow, I can't believe it's Wednesday already! I need to get off my butt! And I need to check out what everyone's been up to! Happy Hump Day

We'll see--it's been pretty cold out and I REALLY don't want to run when int is this cold! BTW--it wasn't my hip flexor (I don't know what I was thinking) it was the muscle on the side of my butt!!! It hasn't hurt since the race so I'm thinking it just wanted some attention. I will probably need to find some exercises to do sothat won't happen again though! |

Veteran 242 | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL Today is my 7 mile walk and it's not supposed to get warmer than 34! Sooo I'm going to bundle up, although I'm reserving the right the wimp out and change course and head for the dreadmill at the gym. I haven't done it yet this winter, but today may be the day. This New Mexico native loves the winter from inside, not walking in it! |

Master 1457 MidWest | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL It is currently 5 degrees ABOVE 0!!! A predicted high of mid-20's does not make me want to go run outside. I think the dreadmill is going to get my attention today. What I might do is change the incline to 1-2% instead of a flat run. I am definitely going to change the pace though and stick to the prescribed 15 minute run. |

Expert 721 | Subject: RE: TriMom217's Group - FULL Hi all! I always run with a little incline on the treadmill-I think it feels a little more natural. Usually between .5 and 2%. I did a strength workout today, and will do a run tomorrow am on the treadmill (it's also FREEZING here- low 20s with windchills in the 0 range- I am a wuss when it comes to the cold....).
