Smaller is not always better.  For those of us with deteriorating eyesight, I actually like the more readable numbers on the 305.  Cramming all this data onto a small screen is not always in the best interest.

think for the price, you might be better off with the 305 because it is great that you can sync it to other 405 but it will take some time for people to get these new one.

I use the 305 and love

What I would like to see is if the satelitte signal fades or is weak and I am wearing my footpod I bought that the footpod will then start to work and I can see my real time data. Just a little software update would be great.

Any ideas on that one.

thanks

What would be nice is if it could average the sat reading and your footpod or sat/cadence and give that reading, so if one went out it would just display the other.

Looks like the $300 gets you only speed and distance.

Heart rate monitor will cost $370.

HRM + wireless connectivity = $420.

As others have pointed out, no pace/time/distance alerts and no multisport mode.

I am still sporting the 101, so the 405 looks like a new sports car to me.

water-proof???

if it's a wireless transfer to the computer maybe it will be

The news release I just read says water resistant (IPX7). I seem to remember somebody a while back mentioning what the IPX7 means. Anyone know what IPX7 means???

Same as the 301/305:

Most newer Garmin® GPS units are waterproof in accordance with IEC 60529 IPX7. IEC 60529 is a European system of test specification standards for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. An IPX8 designation is for continuous underwater use.
So not waterproof?? And is it GPS?? It say the accuracy of our GPS enabled watches makes me think it is not GPS.

Good unit but useless if you cant swim an hour with it ......

looks cool, but I'd be scared to get it wet since its not water resistant. I'll stick with my Nike Sport kit for now.

Does anyone know if you can actually set it up for both bike and run even without multisport? I thought the main thing for a multisport is that it lets you quickly change between sports. Great for a race, but not so crucial for training.

I am using the 301 that I got 2 years ago (which still works great btw!)! But this thing is pretty monstrous! The 405 looks gorgeous by comparison!

I don't understand why a 'foot pod' is needed by the later models? I don't use one for the 301? Could someone explain?

The foot pod allows for use inside on a treadmill or indoor track.

oh thanks! - I would think the treadmill gives you distances though...but could see the benefit for the indoor tracks....
