Woohoo!!

#6091 ..... Puts me in the 6th corral this year.

Thanks for the heads up! Its #4866 for me. However, I'm recovering from 9 days out with the flu and will in no way be able to do that 4th corral start justice. I ran a 20-miler three weeks ago and felt great, but after these last few days down I'm huffing and puffing after 7 miles at race pace.

Any advice besides "let go of that goal time?" A friend, fellow Boston runner and Ironwoman, suggested putting in extra miles running in the pool if its hard to hit the weekly mileage goals from here on out (but of course, to do those long runs).

As far as lodging goes, I may have made a major mistake here. For the sake of sleep and my pocketbook, I booked one of the closest hotels to the start. I'm hoping that someone from my running team who's staying downtown will offer me a place to shower afterwards.

BAA has also put up the Athlete Alert Registration.  Register your friends and family now so you can avoid the line at the Expo.

I wouldn't get too concerned about your running right now.  You have NOT lost your strength or endurance levels after 9 days and your difficulty while running is likely just your body in general is still trying to recover from the flu.  You still have time to fine tune before Patriot's Day and I wouldn't abandon my race goals if I were in your shoes.

Exactly.

I did have to bail on my sub-3 attempt at the beginning of this month because I got the flu the week of the race and was still basically laid up on race day, but I went out and ran pace for 5 miles in the race before knowing there was no chance in hell.  The positive thing from all that is now I'm back up to speed and working on the bridge program to Boston and doing alright with it.  My recovery period that was scheduled in between marathons actually turned into a recovery period from the flu!  Now I'm back where I was before getting sick and raring to go for Beantown.

I wouldn't worry too much either, rest and let your body recover. Make sure you are over it - completely then see where that leaves you with regards to the rest of your training.

Good luck!

7238 is my BIB No.

For those of you out of town, I suggest making some dinner reservations in advance if you are not going to the Pasta Dinner. Otherwise you will battle to get into a restaurant.

Cheers!

So far, I have reservations at Villa Franchesca, Abe and Louie's and Atlantic Fish.  The last two are place holders so if there is some better seafood place or fun casual restaurant lay it on me!

#3600 - But not in condition to do that any justice. Was on pace until about 3 weeks ago. Still, I'm going to try and enjoy the "Boston experience".

My favorite path is 85% clear of snow and ice, I wore shorts on my run this AM, and only partially froze my nads - spring is here! Oh, and the Sox won!

LOL - Who knows what I was doing Anyway my BIB is 7238.

Just finished my last "long run" 21.23 M - my time is not as good as it was for the NYC Marathon but this Winter Training is a whole different bucket of worms. It really wasn't that cold this Winter but I didn't get my usual cycling in.

Anyway hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the final stretch.

As a first timer, I have a question.  Is it reasonable to assume that my husband will be able to pass me sports drink on the course?  Where would be the best place to do that?  I cannot handle Gatorade or gels and usually carry 4 bottles in a fuel belt, but need replenishment around the half way point.

Bib # 2539 - corral 2.

I'm going to be trying to just have fun and enjoy the Boston experience and hopefully come back next year to race. We will see. I'm feeling really good, although I'm flying around an aircraft carrier for the 2.5 weeks and trying to do a long run on a treadmill is rough. You can only stare at a wall so long. I raced a 1/2 Marathon over St. Patty's day. I think I'm recovered but only time will tell if I blow up due to struggling to maintain volume.

I'm totally looking forward to the experience.

I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities for him to hand things off.  I would probably say that the stretch right after Wellsley might not be a bad place as it is fairly uneventful after you pass the school before getting back into the next town.

As far as I know you're not "supposed" to get outside assistance for drinks and such, but you are not going for the win, so I don't think they really care much.
