So, Sunday night I played volleyball which is my favorite sport to play. I ended up injuring my knee. Sunday night was very painful and I was hoping that when I woke up Monday it would be better. It was much better than the night before but still not 100%. I took a rest day, once again hoping that when I woke up this morning that it would be better. It was a little better this morning, but I have 2 flights of stairs in my house and they are killing me. I thought I would get out to the pool this morning for a little low-impact workout. Although it didn't hurt all that much, it hurt enough for me to be concerned.

I am still trying to train myself to swim with my face in the water and still am not very successful at it. The stress of that plus my knee being injured was too much for me to take and I started crying. The thought of not being able to do my tri in June because of a stupid volleyball game makes me angry and sad all at the same time. I am trying to get a doctor's appointment for this week and hopefully it will be good news.

starting this month at 201ish

I flirted with 200 all February and all she did was kick me to the curb.

I've tried to be nice, I've tried to be positive, its just time to get p$ssed.

This month I'm making that lil b$tch mine! 200 is going down like a prom dress!

Goal = 196 for the month. Hey its a long month right?

ps - apologize in advance if I've offended.

Ok, for the third straight month my goal is to get below 150. At least I have been making gradual progress towards that goal, but I really need this weight to drop faster.

If I could somehow get to 145 (perhaps unrealistic) I would be absolutely ecstatic. I'm going to make under 150 my official, and hopefully finally attainable goal.

This first week of March I am pretty pleased with myself. Haven't always made the best eating choices, but have been exercising fairly regularly.

Welcome kiwikowgirl!

Roni, I'm with you on the journaling.  I am determined to hit my goal this month and my nutrition HAS to be there.  I stop journaling and surprise! stopped losing.

This morning:

3 egg whites
1 orange

Lunch:

turkey sandwhich (no mayo, no chips, no soda)
1 apple

Confession: I had a double portion of french fries at 12:20am (yes after midnight). No excuses for that sort of behaviour. Could anyone kick me in the...... please

You'll be o.k. Just don't eat them the wk before the wedding.... Or else you'll really feel guilty. Maybe we should be lifting leaves, instead of weights. It seems that whenever any of us takes the bumpy ride of weightloss, we usually end up turning those damn leaves over. But one thing is sure, not one of us has given up completely so maybe the bumpier the better!

OK. . . so here's what I decided. Food journaling works really well for me, BUT when I start bingeing (which I struggle with) ...

We all struggle with it, otherwise we all would have our own workout videos. Can you imagine... Hmmmm?

You don't think it's your ACL do you? Can you still walk with moderate pain but without a limp? If so, it's probably just bruised or you may have hit the bone. But either way that's what bandaids are for. It will come, you have to realize that.

As to training about swimming with your head in the water. Can you hold your breath for very long? Even if you can't, try a few drills where your sitting under the water, totally emersed. You need to get used to feeling safe with water above your head. Then there is the idea of being out of breath (swimming). So, the next step I would think is a systematic desensitization technique used to allow moderate exercise in the pool with your head emersed. Slow your breathing down and work upward to full exertion. I'm guessing that your heart rate is also elevated when you swim, because your trying to get to the end too quickly. Take advantage of your training and use this time to TRAIN yourself to breath properly, the heart issue should fall in place.

I had a similar issue when I ran. I was going to quickly, I didn't realize the importance of pacing myself. What's the point of doing a 3-6 mi run if I'm dead after the first 400 yds.?

I want Ohio's workout video:  Squat prom dress down...Rise with explosive power prom dress up....Squat prom dress down.... I crack me up!!

I believe journaling is good not only to keep you honest, but to see what you are actually doing instead of what you "think" you are doing.

Now what happens when you get to your goal weight and within 3 days after, your back above by 1-3 lbs. ? Have a contigency plan. Mine is I'm actually shooting for 1-2 lbs below my ideal/goal weight, that way if I gain the extra (water weight or whatever), I'll be right where I want to be.

Good or bad post what you do...Eat more, work out less,  mindlessly snack.  Guaranteed that if you keep on the same as you have been your weight will drop or at least remain the same.

Let's hope it's not my ACL. That would be horrible news.

So what I've been doing at the pool is to go from about the 4 1/2 foot depth to the 3 foot end of the pool and try to experiment with every 2, 3 or 4 strokes. I can do it sometimes and sometimes I can't. I have a problem when I bring my head to the side that I will sometimes take water in and start to choke. I don't think I'm swimming too fast...maybe one stroke per second.

I will try to hold my breath underwater and see how that goes. Thanks

Hi everyone,

Can I join the fun?  I've put on 6lbs since last summer and it and 10 more has to come off before summer.

My training partner lost 9 lbs on our new plan.. and I've gained, it's almost like we swapped the weight!

Hi Kappie,

I find that two strokes works really well, you can get into a nice easy rhythm that doesn't force you to make your breath last too long!

It may also be helpful to have someone look at your technique. There are a number of things that you can do to push your face further out of the water when you are taking a breath. I also find that it helps me to count i.e. 'breath 1, 2, 3, 4, (the time it takes to do 2 strokes) breath 1, 2, 3, 4' etc. Once I've got a rhythm going I'm much less likely to panic or to push myself till I'm out of breath.

hope this helps :-)
