And her email says to email her before Sept 3, which I did, twice. And once after. It also says to email with any questions... just weird. I will definitely get there early and do what they tell me to do. But as a communications professional this is driving me batty! Whizzzzz - 2008-09-05 4:48 PM lisac957 - 2008-09-05 12:09 PM Is anyone else having communication issues with the volunteer captains? Mine sent the same email literally 8 times. I've emailed back 3 times asking what else I need to know since I can't make it to the Saturay meeting with NO response ![]() ![]()
What are you volunteering for? I will PM you my phone number....(in case I wear a hat) I'm thinking they are quite busy at this time and may not respond. Depending on your volunteer position and scheduled time, I would at least show up 1/2 hour before your scheduled time at the volunteer registration tent that will be outside on race day to check-in and get your volunteer shirt and wristband, unless you're helping with bike giving/receiving, show up 1/2 hour before your shift and meet at the bike transition and someone should point you to the lead. If a running or bike Marshal, get earlier to the volunteer tent and find out additional information. I hope this helps. ![]() I had the same problem. I emailed immediately after the first note and have never gotten a response. I even called and left a VM. I finally just showed up today for my registration shift and once I found the crew, all went well. But it's definitely operating on a shoestring. We'll whip that changing tent into shape on Sunday! I'll see you there I'll vouche and guarantee that if Kristin is there, everything will be shaped up - she's not afraid to get in there and take charge (and that is a GOOD thing)! Thanks for hanging around and just shooting the breeze with me this morning while I was assigned to tell participants where to go. You're a lot of fun and great to hang with, LM! |

Iron Donkey![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Regarding Mon. morning signup if helping with registration, from the NEW lead who took over since the original lead wasn't responding to e-mails: "We apologize for the lateness of this e-mail and also for any confusion <edited out name> might have created with the e-mail he sent last night regarding 2009 Race Registration. It would seem the person who was to captain this portion never responded to any e-mails, so I have taken over in his absence.Monday morning please report to The Hall of Ideas J, which is located on the 4th Floor in the corridor just before the coat rooms, by 8:15. We would like to get everyone in place as quickly as possible. Since there will be a lot going on in building and area on Monday morning, please allow plenty of advance time to find parking and our location. We will be handling several things at this time. We will be setting up a Lost and Found area; there will be 2 segments of registration for the 2009 race, first the 2008 racers and volunteers followed by others waiting in line; we will be passing out the Finisher Certificates. We should be done by 11:30, which is when the Awards Ceremony begins. The Volunteer Appreciation Party is Monday, September 8th in Monona Terrace Exhibition Hall. The doors will open at 5:15, food served at 5:30, and a short program at 6:00. The Packers/Vikings Monday Night Football game broadcast will be part of the entertainment. Be sure to come for dinner, if at all possible."

(obviously for next year)...I would love to come see and help out at the event Next spring (generally around April), the sign up website will be open. Never you fear, someone (normally me...heh) will post here on BT when that sight is up and running... If you want to do something like body-marking or something in the swim area, you generally need to sign up shortly after the website opens (with in the first week or so). Those areas are popular and fill in fast. Same goes for finish line areas (catching, time chip removal, etc). |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just wanted to thank you guys again. IMOO was was one of the most painful things I've done in 10 or 20 years, but it was also the most fun I've had with my cloths on in about that long as well. The volunteers make the day, or at least they did for me. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have to say that volunteering for this event was beyond inspirational, all of you IMer's are amazing!!! I was primarily in the bike area during swim to bike (1930's 40's & 50') and bike to run (catching and racking... ) I know that transition inside and out... but selfishly, it really helped me understand the flow of things (assuming most is the same for next year as I registered this morning for my first IM... IMoo '09!!!) One thing that I can tell everyone here is on the swim to bike ... keep your bib numbers in FRONT of you until you get your bike. The bike handlers can see that thing from miles away and will have your bike waiting for you... then spin it around to the back! (one of many lessons learned volunteering this weekend!) |

Iron Donkey![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hopefully a last note. The main organizer stated last night at the volunteer dinner that he was flooded with calls and such from participants wanting to make sure that the volunteers were told "Thank YOU" for doing a WONDERFUL job! I think that I was MORE than happy to be there supporting you guys. You are worth it! |
