sgillen - 2008-12-30 3:03 PM How cold will the water likely be ??? I know it can vary but a general range would be good???

Best guess is in the mid 60's.  I've done IMCDA 4 times in a sleeveless wetsuit with no issues.

ETA: I might jump in tomorrow for the Polar Bear swim, after that race day will be much warmer.

Thanks. Mid 60's is fine. Thanks.

I don't have anything to add- I just wanted to be the first person in 2009 to write in this thread. Training ramping up- I started track workouts this week and I'd forgotten how tough they can be. Oh well, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
Good luck with the training all. Less than 24 weeks to go.

Yip Yo! WOOOOOOOOOO! I'm so excited; still in pre-season training mode, but taking it much more seriously as of Christmas week going fwd.... and dead serious on the training quality this month. swim is improving, biking is improving much... just printed out hardcopy pages of the run and bike courses for my wall of motivation.

Well T, did you swim???  I hope you wore your neoprene cap!

By looking at this thread, it seems like others are starting to train.  Oops - better get busy!

Is where you live warmer and dryer than here in PA? I'd be doing more road riding if the weather would cooperate. In place of it I have been doing quite a bit of mountain biking. Hoping to be able to run more in the next week. Got a shot in my heel for PF yesterday and working on another new pair of orthotics...What the heck it's only money. I am training at a different level this year. I am going to crush my PR!!!!!

Well T, did you swim???

No, I did not make it to the swim.  I'm going to blame the fact that both kids had a sleep over new years party and we still had a house full of kids. (But we both know the real truth is that I'm just a big wimp

We were figuring about 4200 miles round trip (we're taking 2 weeks to drive and see Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and other sites in that part of the country).  Yahoo directions say about 1700 miles to go directly from here to CdA.

Yes

Yes

and yes.

Although, i've been doing indoor rides for the most part. We've been having intermittent spring like weather...one day it's 30 deg's and the next it's 70. Crazy! Ouch on that shot!btw...

oh I forgot to reply to the travel distance query.  I think Barqhead has me beat.... depending...

I'm flying from Raleigh, NC (planning to fly into Spokane and then drive it over I guess... I still have to actually book travel reservations).  I'm not sure how long I'm staying though... do most people get outta town the day after the race? I've booked vacation time at work from the Weds before race day.. sched'd to return to work the Thursday after. I figure it's a destination spot.. why not vacation a bit and soak up the scenery !

Two years ago I got into town on Wed and left on Monday.  I wished I stayed a day longer to enjoy the restaurants/bars in town and the post race banquet.  This year I plan on going in on Thursday and returning on Tuesday.

We plan on arriving Wednesday evening and I'm not sure how long we will be staying. We are making the race a kind of family reunion. My SIL's family lives in Spokane and has a lake house at CDA. We're all staying there and I would actually like to spend some social time with them since I haven't seen them since Thanksgiving of 2007!

I'm driving in Wednesday evening and going back on Monday via Spokane and Vancouver, and spending some time visiting.
I think I'm about 1000 km away, but I'm crossing an international border so it makes it seem farther!!!!

I'm coming in on Thursday and leaving on Thursday. My parent and brother are going to come in for the race as well and stay most of the week. Any suggestions from the CDA veterans/locals on activities/restaurants/sites in the area.

My recommendations: The White House Grill in Post Falls (about 10 miles from Coeur d'Alene) and the Wine Cellar (in Coeur d' Alene).  Make your reservations early for the White House Grill and make sure to take your partner with you as you'll smell of garlic for a few days.

Well, according to google, I'm 602 miles from CDA!  Should be a nice drive from here in Oregon!

Already really looking forward to it.
