Hey Team Momo!

Introduction:  I'm married & still passionately in love w my high school sweetheart whom I started dating when I was 16.  We have two crazy lovable dogs: Chesty, a border collie & Chili, a black lab.  We live in the heart of Va - Ivy, located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.  We're die hard Philly fans and visit PHL frequently since most of our dear friends and family still live there.

The goals you all have achieved and/or set for yourselves are inspiring.  I look forward to training, encouraging, empathizing, learning, and celebrating with you over the next few months.

As for our captain, Momo - I'm not sure what's more impressive:  his training log or that he's taking the time & effort to coach us!  Thanks Momo!!

Best wishes to all of you for a fantastic and healthy New Year.  Cheers!!

you can do treadmill, elliptical, or exercise bike.. nothing major. 5-10mins.. that's all you need.

but as a note for those that are going for weight loss.. it is best to lift weights first and then do you major cardio work (burning the glycogen from the blood). I have the reason at home.. i will paraphrase it and post it later.

Hi Maurice,

I hope I didn't miss the follow-up to your suggestion for us to do our strength-training before cardio. I was interested to hear why it is better to do it in that order.

No worries at all! It was New Year's last night. I wasn't even thinking…everyone should be enjoying their time off today. I clearly have too much time on my hands to be following up, especially, when it is still technically New Years. Good thing I start my training next week. Training fills up the calendar quite nicely.

All

I'm sitting at work, i just thought of something..

Are you up for a challenge? if so here it is,

run/walk at least 20 miles (5 miles a week)
new runners this could be good for you... this could a progression to a 5K if need be.. i can
give details if needed
swim at least 6000 yards (1500 yards a week)
same for new swimmer
bike at least 40 miles (10 miles a week)
as for biking this could be challenging.. some have trainers others don't.. but there are spin
classes.. an hour spin class is about 10-18 miles depending on your intensity.. so
10 miles - minimal effort
18 miles - major effort
there is some in between.. i'll let you make that decision.

you have to log everything.. how you felt, was your pace good, how was the breathing, etc...

also log your hydration habits.. i can't remember but you need at least 32oz of fluid per 1 hour of exercise.. i may be off on this but not by much.. (remember drink before you need it, if your are thirsty you are already dehydrated.

Let me know if you are up for momo jan challenge.. the reward is completion. saying i did it.

we will back date it to JAN 1..

let me know

hey all...happy new year...officially

the challenge sounds like a great idea

since deciding to do the sprint - 3x balanced - 20 week training program, i have noticed that i am able to do more than the recommended initial sets (excluding the swim, as the pool i am planning on swimming at does not reopen until jan 10)

with that said, when i officially start my training on jan 5, should i do as much as i can do and progress from there, or should i follow the recommended sets, eventhough i am able to do more?

hoping everyone's 2009 is starting off with a blast

Though you can do more.. stick with the sets for now.. this is another options.. go harder with in the set.. there are some many things to work on.. breathing rhythm is while speeding up, keeping the shoulders relaxed, hill, sprints(interval training).. recovering while running(slowing the pace to get HR down while running)

i don't know what this plan entails.. can someone show it to me. so i can show some options? or write it down and email it to me.

I'm glad you all are taking to this idea... this will help us with accountability.. and also starting the year off on the right foot.

They are more fun than anything else since I am with people I like...It takes my mind away from my muscles that tend to not like my new lifestyle so much....

Weight train and some treadmill with a bit of foam rolling.  Followed hopefully by the always fun dancing the friday night away with friends... cheap and fun.

Tommorow  7 am weights Spin at 8:30  pick up my friend at 11 from airport then hiking or jog in the afternoon for fun at the state park.

Sunday Spin and then weights.

all this is still tentative but they are plans.

Any sugestions on the swimming?
