5/16 or 5/17 work for me, I'm doing the Hawk Island sprint the next weekend anyway.  The water shouldn't be much colder than it was last year.Laughing

I think I can make May 16-17, Have Racing for recovery HIM, so a pre race would do me good.     The end of season will have to wing it, IM is Aug 22.

I'm totally in.  Can't wait!

This will be a perfect warm up for Hawk Island and the other Island Lake Tri's.

Quick, grab the paddles, this thread needs a pulse! Rick, is this close to what you were thinking?

Just some thoughts to get the discussion going again:
Time -- May 16 or 17. 8am.
Location -- ILRA and Kensington Metropark
Distance -- Olympic = 1 mile swim w/ 2-3 loops around the perimeter of the pond; 25 mile bike through ILRA and Kensington; 6.2 mile run on ILRA roads
Transition area/Start/Finish -- grass/beach/parking lot at Spring Mill pond

Needs:
Transition area guards (grrr) to watch our stuff
Course map for participants
Goofy awards for fun
Participants!

Add, change, modify as you see fit.

Can't make Saturday but may try to work on it but the earlier the better.  If it's Sunday could we move the time to 9 am?  I don't get off duty til 8.  Thanks!

Is the date locked in?  That is starkermann weekend.  I know that there aren't a ton of people racing that, but I will.

I am quite intrigued, and it would be nice to see how destroyed I'd get, and maybe pick up some transition tips or whatnot.

Would it be possible to include sprint-distance option legs in case our (my) training hasn't gotten us (me) to Oly distance comfort?

Err... plus I'm coaching a soccer game on the morning of the 16th... how's Sunday looking?

I know... I suck.

I'm with Ethan...I'm trying to be ready for Sprints early summer and olympic at the end...I'd prefer a .25-.5 mile swim, 10-20 mile bike and no more than 5 or 6 mile run.

Let's do it!! If we make loops of things, then we can have 2 distances, no problem.

Matt- do you have other weekends available? It seemed like that was the 'most available' weekend from the previous input, but it would be sad if you couldn't make it. Is there a race Sunday as well?

The weekend before or after is open.  I forgot that this was hashed out months ago.  If I can't make it, no biggie.  Its not like I will have a lack of racing this summer.

If your question about a race on Sunday was to me, yes.  The starker-mann race is Fri night, Sat morning, Sat afternoon, and Sun morning.  Four events in total.

hello there... I'm relatively new to BT (located over near Windsor Ontario) and just started checking out the Michigan threads. I'd definitely be up for the May dates. I'm doing the 100mile Tour de Cure mid-June and training for IM Moo (1st IM).  I could use some nice OLY distance training in May.

I'm down with sunday may 17th. I work Sat til 5. This will be a great tune up for my first ever tri on the 31st (Black Bear HIM Dist.) I need some Trans. tips and this may be the place to get them. Oh and the open water swim thing, yeah i should try that once or twice before the race.

Hey Corey - we're in the same place then - my first real tri is going to be the Steelhead HIM.  However, I've signed up to do the Ann Arbor one for some practice and will do this one too.   Go big or go home, huh?

OK, this is still on. I've gotta take two weeks out of the country, but when I get back...and I'll post...I'm going to Island Lake to measure/plan/be stupid. Maybe even swim.

Then I shall post the plan. Anyone who wants to accompany on recon, stay tuned. It will be the weekend before, not looking at the calendar, but maybe the 10th, or maybe the 3rd?  We'll see, depending if I feel like dragging my kidlets down to do recon.

And as far as distance, I'll mark an Oly, a Sprint, and a Half. And the funny part is, it's not really a race. Do what you want. Training plan call for a 40 mile bike?  Do that. Feel like doubling up the swim?  Cool.  It's not about winning or losing, it's about pushing yourself and racing, whatever your distance, or speed, early season. With good company. That's it.

Casual.

Trish - I didn't mean to offend   what I meant by "my first real tri" is that Steelhead is the first one I have planned to really race.  Any others I do beforehand are meant for my personal training.  Was by no means a reflection on any other distances which I'm sure are all capable of kicking my a$$.

And as for the "big" comment...yes, this was stupid - I was being sarcastic, but that doesn't really come across in writing and I shouldn't have said it, so I'm very sorry to you and everyone else.

coop,

i look forward to meeting you. My thought with the HIM distance as my first is I'm more suited to endurance than speed and to keep motivated through the winter i wanted a big goal so HIM it was. I' doing an IM in Sept. Good luck with your training. I'll look into ann arbor also.
