enders_shadow - 2009-04-23 9:13 AM So my goal for today is to get over being a huge sloth. I have my gym clothes packed and I will make it to the gym for a little spin on the stationary bike and then (assuming the knee is all good), a venture into knee strengthening. This weekend is supposed to be gorgeous, so I'm looking forward to taking Baby out for a ride...her first time off the trainer this spring.

So... do we have good news to report back to us???Surprised

Yep yep.

10mile spin on the bike, then 20 m strength training.

davidson3 - 2009-04-23 7:01 PM I am looking to do my last 12 mile run before the riverbank in that 80 degree weather.  Right now I am focused on that race, then turn my attention to TRI training for July and August.

I have been kicking around some plans and time frames.  Do you think the 16 week OLY program from 5/11-8/30 would be adequate if I am doing a SPRINT in there on 7/12?  I have been consistently swimming 25+ min 2x/wk for about 8 weeks, but very little time on my trainer.  It just seems like a 12 mile bike in July will not be too tough of an endeavor, and by 8/30 I will have had plenty of time in the saddle for a 40k bike/10k run.

Also, I have a Road Bike (Giant OCR-C3).  For those 2 TRIs do you think Aero Bars and a forward seat post will make any difference, or is it really an issue for a 70.3 or IM?

Thanks.

Hey cool, I will be doing the Riverbank run also,

as far as plans, I would say you are right on track for your goal August race. With the volume you say you are doing now, you should be fine. Aero bars would definatley help as far as a fast forward seat, maybe a bit but all comes down to how it "fits" on your bike. I think I still  have fast forward post that I was using the first winter I decided to switch to tris before I got  a tri bike. I have a giant road bike and aero bars didn't work the best because the top tube was so long. Once I had the ff post they worked much better.

The weather finally broke here, and I'm going to go out and do a run or two between tomorrow and Sunday.  Longest I've done recently was in the tri...4 miles...bad run for a number of reasons.  Any suggestions on where to start....time/distance?

I would like to make a general suggestion.
It would make it much easier for shermbells to make suggestions and mentor us all if we all fill our logs out completely.  I need to start adding in nutrition because this is where I will need lots of help when I add long bike and swims to my runs.  I for one would like to "inspire" everyone for an added push as well as I need inspiration from you when times get tough.  For those of you that have not seen a good training log click on "logs" under shermbelles post and see what has been accomplished in the last few years.  Amazing numbers and dedication, but I only know this because it is filled out.

** watch when someone asks a question in any of the other sections.  The first thing off someones keyboard is:  "I would love to help, but your logs are not filled out and do not know what you have been doing".**

Just TRI'ing to help,
Patrick

How much have you been running consistently recently? How many times per week and how much volume?

The 10% rule is always good. Never add more than 10% more volume than the week previous. A lot of times a good thing is to add more shorter runs rather than extending the distance of your runs at first just to build the strength and endurance. Distance will come as you get stronger and keep extending yourself out.

Answer the first couple of questions and then I can give more advice and if anyone else wants to chime in, please do

Not a ton yet, I have been horribly busy and have yet got a grasp on everyone and their goals, but I am working towards that.

It also sounds like the weather is breaking for some of us so the bikes will be getting some work on them Cool

It's a gorgeous day and supposed to be an even more gorgeous (and dare I say HOT) weekend here in sunny Virginia. Once my lunch digests, I'm going to take a teeny little gentle easy non-stressful run. And then break out the bike this weekend! YEAH YEAH YEAH!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Thank you thank you thank you for bringing this up ( and yes I am so guilty of this, putting off logging )

It helps a ton to be very detailed and give lots of feedback on how things are going!

Traveling messed me up.
I missed my swim due to jet lag.
I am hoping to get up early tomorrow to put in 2-3 bike ride (LSD with hills).
I then go to Long Beach for the weekend (Supervise prom Sat Night, celebrate my anniversary with family the rest of the time).
I will try to put in a quick few miles for run in Sunday Morning.

This weekend is alot of travelling for me.  I do more of my training during the week with the kiddos.

But *if* things work out I might go for a 5km bike ride this morning.  We will see.

Working Days this w/e, but plan to run 12-13 miles at Race Pace+20 (about 8:35) today when I get home, and then ride for maybe an hour tomorrow when I get home.  I can't wait until my taper for the 25k is done so I can get to it.

Crap!  I just looked at the weather report for today and it looks like Thunderstorms all afternoon and evening.  I guess I will have to run the 12 miles inside.  Any ideas on how to pass the time running 144 laps on an indoor track besides just listening to my IPOD?  I don't know if I can even count to 144.  Maybe I will bring along my 8 year-old to count laps for me.

If I break it up into 2 mile segments track/treadmill, how much of an incline should I add on the treadmill to adjust the difficulty to actual running?  Or should I push the pace for the treadmill segments?  How much?

Thanks.

I have been logging my training. I never stopped exercising but last week was the first week of proper training. I'm following the 16 week 2x balanced Sprint training plan.

I had to start on week 2 to match the date of the race that I have initially planned to partipate (2nd August). But I will have to travel on that date, so decided to do one Sprint Tri on the 4th July, which is nearly 1 month earlier than I should (according to my training plan (end of July).

Is that ok??

yes, my first, and I am excited to get it done.  Any advice?  One specific question- I am extremely frugal, so I like the idea of consuming the GU Energy Gels that are provided at the race, but I have never had one before.  I usually eat a Target brand chewy treat packet every 35 min on long runs and that gets me through.  Do you think trying a different fuel on race day will really matter?

Well... Laughing you are toying with rule #1 in endurance sports nutrition, "don't try anything new on race day"

That being said, how is your stomach and what can it handle? I have an iron stomach and have tried virtually any and everything during training and races so nothing new usually gives me any problems.

Maybe splurge on one or two of them before your next long run and give them a shot to make sure you have no issues, or live on the edge like me and take that chance (second option not wisely advised)

Hey, folks!

I took the bike out for my first outside ride of the season. (Yeah, it's been nice enough before today, but I've been focusing on the run...) My bike handling skills are rusty and my knees aren't quite recovered from the mary, but I got a solid ride in. May go longer tomorrow, depending on how my legs feel. I also went for my first teensy run yesterday since the mary. It went OK, but I have a long way to go. Boo.
