I don't.  It takes me 1:55 to 2:10 to swim 100 meters.  I time a bunch of 50's during each workout, and then estimate my total.

When I'm alone, I do intervals. Usually of 100's or 200's. Then I only need to count to 4 or 8. And I do repeats of those 100's or 200's. That makes counting much easier, and swimming fast sets of 200's does a lot more for making me do a fast mile than swimming a mile flat out without any speed to it. Do intervals. Don't swim those long long sets. They don't help (at least to make you fast or comfortable).

Donto - 2009-05-29 6:18 AM Either hit the lap button on the watch or move an object (e.g. water bottle) over one tile.  Also if I'm going a certain distance and and I forget to mak a lap I know my general pace so it is easy to figure out how far I've gone based on time.

x2. only my pool isn't tiled, I move my bottle along the "no running" letters.

gearboy - 2009-05-30 6:10 PM I make sure I share a lane with someone.  Every lap, I hit them on the head.  After the swim, they will tell me how many laps I did - "Dude, you hit me 36 times!"

I was counting 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110, 111, 1000,... Hey its a digital world. But I am going to use Gearboy's system. It seems so elegant and cheap.
