Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kzoojason76 - 2009-06-22 10:49 AM Hello Susan, From the maps, it looks like the bike and the run will be almost exactly what we practiced a few weeks ago. The swim will take place in Kent Lake (which is the lake we parked at). Here are the maps: http://www.runtrextri.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=33 I lied.. looks like only part of the run is the same as we practiced. It looks like there's a turnaround right at the overpass, and then you head back, and run the road for a bit. You then pick back up on the paved path back toward the finish. I never was very good at reading maps!! :-D Don't listen to me, I'll get you lost. |

I wore a wetsuit on Sunday and was comfortable. The water is still cool. I'm not sure what it'll be like by Wednesday, but as of now I'm planning on wearing my wetsuit (sleeveless). |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm going to shoot for getting to the park by 5pm on Wednesday. I'm coming from Troy and the traffic is nasty, especially with the construction everywhere. I want to make sure I give myself enough time. I'll also be going to packet pick-up tomorrow. I'll stop on my way home from work....so I'll probably be there sometime between 5:45 and 6:15pm. Susan...I'd love help with setting up the tent! Thank you. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm ditching the wetsuit after tomorrows race. I do enjoy swimming without it....but I'll take any advantage I can get on race day. : )

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() a few questions from the confused newbie! I picked up my packet today, and it's now starting to sink in that this is really happening! first question- So, the timing band thingy... after watching the ILRA tri on sunday I was under the impression this is worn around the ankle for the entire race to time you.... correct? i just finished reading the back of the envelope it was in and it's showing that you attach something to your shoe?? what's the deal? second- i bought a race belt on sunday and I have no idea how the thing works!! it has snaps which are way closer together than the holes on the number bib ( even when worn around my waist) ... do i just make my own holes? third- what is the basic rundown of what happens before the tri? do you check in somewhere? do you set up your stuff right away? what do i do?! I appreciate any info you have to offer!! |

I appreciate any info you have to offer!! 1st ?- the band thingy is worn around your ankle. Last year the ones running fit used required a pin to hold them on there were still a lot that fell off on the course. I'm not sure what they gave you this year. 2nd ?-the race belt will stretch and then the number snaps will be in the right place. Just snap in your number where the holes are and try on the belt, you'll see. Also, make adjustments to your belt so it fits your waist. 3rd ?-You don't check in if you already have your packet. They will have the bike racks numbered so you will find your area to set up for transition. I set my stuff up as soon as I can and then relax. You will need to find the body marking area and get body marked. They may want to see your number to verify. After you are all set up, have fun. Hydrate well during the day tomorrow. Eat something about 2 hours before the tri. But hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Make sure you have a water bottle for the ride and one in your transition area. It is going to be a scorcher.

I appreciate any info you have to offer!! yes, what Jo said, especially about hydrating! If you're not peeing at least once an hour, drink more! Also, the belt...I have a little hole punch that stays in my tri bag. I just make my own hole so it fits better on my belt. Oh yeah, go kick some arse, girl! I also picked up my packet yesterday. In the envelope, there was an ankle band, but no timing chip. Soooo....I'm assuming we will need to get the timing chip on site before the race. Make sure you get there early enough so you have time to stand in that line (or early enough so you won't have to wait in a line)! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh yeah....I swam to course last night at Kent Lake. The water is getting pretty warm. I'm hoping wetsuits will still be legal tonight, but don't be shocked if they aren't. This mini heat wave we've had over the past few days is realling warming up the water. I felt a HUGE difference in temp between yesterday and Sunday. |

It couldn't hurt! The water was cooler the farther you went out (shocking, I know). Hopefully they take the temp out a ways and not right up on the beach. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Kristen - they forgot your chip! Mine was already on my strap, so they may have the chip that corresponds to your number at the park tonight. Either that or my packet was wrong lol!
xcourtx - I totally agree with what Jo said - the strap goes around your ankle and HYDRATE. Try for your left ankle to clear any chain interactions so when you are on the bike it does not accidentally hit the chain, etc. You may want to use one of the pins in your packet for pin the band after it is closed. These are different than last year, however still can easily be undone. I hear what you are saying about the holes and your bib - my belt has it's fasteners (bungees) too far apart! What I suggest is pinning your race number to the belt. This way you do not have to worry about the snaps. Just make sure to pin it after you have the belt on to account for stretching. Also another last piece of advice for you - sorry I am reading this so late lol - is carry a water bottle with you on the run and hydrate like mad on the bike!!! The run water stations are just too few for this heat. Last year I was about dead by the time I hit the only one on the course. This year there are two, however one is as you exit transition and then one near the finish. I STRONGLY encourage bringing your own! I have my aerobottle frozen in the freezer here at work (half full) with the reaminder of my bike drink in the fridge, and then my run bottle is frozen as well so it will thaw at the race. Trust me - in 1 hour in this heat the bottles will be warm.
Everyone - where are we all meeting beforehand? |

Ok...I'm a total nerd. I ran down to my car to double check. The timing chip is that orange plastic thing, right? At first glance, I thought it was just part of the strap. I'm bringing a tent to set up....so look for the blue tent somewhere near the finish line. See ya tonight! |
