I had one done by 8 and it was out by 830. Then I got the dreaded `This should've been out earlier.' message from my boss.

Oh well. He did say he was very impressed with my time. He's an old marathoner.

Thanks Fill. I was surprised by a few things. First of all, I didn't think it was as hard as it was in my mind pre-race. Second, I didn't feel the absolute elation at the end like I thought I would. I'd imagined it a million times, that maybe I'd get all emotional and stuff, which is very unlike me, but all I did was give a shout out to mom and then raised my arms in victory. And then it was over.

We can't get the shots around here yet. Well, at least a healthy 30-year old can't.
They live in Chicago anyway so I haven't had any contact with them... I just hope my sister and her husband don't get it. Kinda seems inevitable though...

Tell you what, not taking away your glory or anything, but, if the Donkai Nation and/or additional BTers came out to jockstrap there, I'm wondering if you would have had a higher elevation of excitement or joy?

Yes, once you do hit that finish, it just fizzes quickly.  Kind of a bummer.

Yeah I think having more people at the finish would've made it better. I really am glad Robyn was there, though, because after I found her I said `We hve to get my stuff.' She was holding one bag and said `I have your stuff.' I said `No, my bike and all the rest of my gear.' and she said `It's in the car. And the car's parked right over here.'

That was like music to my ears. She really was the best IronSherpa one could have!!!

But, she was allowed to get your bike and transition stuff and take them out?  Really?  You can't get your bike and such unless you have your wristband I.D. on and verified at Ironman Moo (for sure).

Yeah that is crazy that they let someone else get ALL of your stuff- even your bike!
At Longhorn the other week when I went to claim my bike, I had ripped the bike sticker off during the race cause it was rubbing on my thighs. Since my bike didn't have a sticker it took them a long time to decide if they would give me the bike, even when I had my bib on, my wristband, and all my gear bags - all numbered with the same number. They ended up taking my bib and wristband away from me so I couldn't come back in for another bike.

They have a pretty good check system.  After they let me in transition, they walked me to where his stuff was.  Watched me just get the bags with his number on them that matched the ticket I had that HE had to give me that came with HIS packet of stuff.  Then they checked that I only had his bags again when I left transition.  And with the bike .. they didn't let me in but they brought it to me after showing the ticket and my ID.  Last year at IMAZ I was with hanging out with JeepFleeb when he picked up his junk

HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!! *tears rolling down face*

and they didn't let me into the transition area because I didn't have a ticket.

I think it's a good idea to be able to let someone else collect your things and put them in the car.  That way when you are done racing you don't have to deal with all that crap.  You can just enjoy hanging out and getting some food then head to the car.

I wish I would have known that.  I didn't have really anyone around and got all of my belongings both times.  It was really lonely and tiring.

You are good Sherpas!

zwest - 2009-11-10 7:52 AM Morning all...

The MIL arrives today, on the plus she comes bearing a bicycle on the negative my wife will be all funny for a few days.

Morning, TAN.  Funny, as innnnn......

He accent will come back full time for the good part of funny... She'll get homesick for the bad part of funny.

My fiance returned last night from a visit to her homeland of Minnesota.  She picked up a bit of her old accent.  Good stuff... one of the many reasons I am marrying her.
