I agree to a point, but one of the neat things about triathlon is that quite often, the pros do end up at races such as this (and we age groupers get to race on the same course.)  My point being, it happens often enough that it wouldn't seem to be THAT big of an announcement if a couple big name pros were at the race.  For instance, Desiree Ficker and Andrea Fisher have been at CapTex and some of Jack and Adams smaller races in Austin numerous times, and there are ALWAYS big name athletes at the Mdot races.

Having said that, of course it would be very cool to have some of the sport's big names at a Texas race...just not all that unique.

Maybe it is such a big announcement that it will effect the markets, so they are going to announce it after the closing bell.

Keith...I know what regular Sprint distances are but hubby thinks he might do his first and is nervous about the swim.  What are the distances for the Lonestar sprint?  Only the Oly is listed on the site.

The sprint distances are shown below the Oly distances. The web site says it's a .3-mile swim, which would be a little over 500-yards. When you figure salt water, wet suit, and relatively clean water (by South Texas standards), I think it's a good race for a nervous swimmer!

+1. Fairly smooth water (it's in a bay protected from the ocean waves), relatively warm, mostly a straight swim, and a huge white steamboat to sight off of.  I think there's a 1st timers wave also, if he's interested in that.

Thanks everyone.  Not sure how I missed it.

We are all signed up!!  Can't wait.  Off to buy him a pair of goggles after work so there are no excuses not to train and he won't be stealing mine.

Can't wait for the announcement!!

Would 2nd Keith's reply on the Beach Patrol. They are good folks.
Also in the past GBP has put on a solid open water clinic prior to the races at Moody Gardens. Well worth the time to attend.

I noticed on the USAT website that the Lonestar Oly is a Nat'l Championship Special Qualifying race.  Maybe that's the big news??

I think it always has been. I know that the Half was before it became 70.3 when I qualified, not sure if the Oly was too, never done it, anyone know?
