Looks like this thread needs to be revived!  It's either way too early in the season for people to start their training or we just don't have many people signed up.

I'm hoping this weekend is a little warmer and I'll actually be able to rid outdoors for the first time this year.  I just ordered a new bike last week, so this will be my first race on the new rig!  So excited to show it off!

It's supposed to be in the 40's here in DC this weekend.  With the weather we have had this winter that seems like shorts weather.

What kind of bike did you get?

We've been in the 30's and 40's, and for us that feels like an ice age.  Hope to back into the 50's this weekend!  Do you at least have clear roads?  At least we haven't had ice or snow...

As for the bike, it's Guru Merus, completely decked out.  I've wanted a Ti bike for a while, so I'm having hard time staying patient while it's being made!  Delivery in a few weeks.

Working from home today so looking outside my window,  still some piles of snow in the yard, and some of the MUT's are still covered with ice and snow, roads are mostly clear.  Wife and I are planning on heading out to the country this weekend to get in a nice long outdoor ride.

Very cool on the bike.  Congrats.

Friday it might get into the 40s which would be great to get out and ride. I have to take our son to college though and be home in time to pick my husband up from the airport so may not be possible.

I'm with Erin on being a wuss on riding in the cold, but we finally got back into the 50s yesterday and I ran outside in shorts. It actually felt a little warm after being in the 30s for a week.

Run:13h 50m 17s  - 69.4 Mi
Swim:8h 30m 33s  - 16350 Yd
Crossfit:11h 00m
Walking:30m 30s
Yoga:2h 33m

In for the half, need to ramp up swimming. I noticed a bike checkin on Saturday afternoon. I was planning to drive down Sunday morning. Does this mean you leave bike there Saturday? If so, then bring all your gear next morning and bike pump or will they have some there?

I hit the road this weekend for the first time in a while - you are right, it is not the same! I was very humbled by how much harder the road was after being indoors all winter.

You leave your bike in transition and then bring the rest of your gear in the morning.  Be prepared with your own pump.

I've ridden twice outside when it's been in the 30s and longest ridden this year was 1:30. Hope weather improves as I need some serious bike time. I'm running a 1/2 Mary this weekend so run I'll be okay. I worry most about the bike and the swim well I'm doing more longer swims after working on improving technique for a few months.

I do keep wondering why I signed up for an early season HIM when I live in MA..what was I thinking?

I do look forward to fun BT crowd there.

I'm new to this forum and planning on doing the HIM.  I've read a few of the old race reports, but can anyone give me some perspective on swimming in a bayou?  I am a fresh water inland lake girl myself and trying to get a handle on what is usually the most stressful part of a tri for me.....a Texas forum member (won't mention his name, but you know who you are) is filling my head with stories of alligators, sewer rats, jelly fish, etc....

I have gotten to know that stupid metal man quite well this winter.

60 here today in DC, got in a nice 50 miler.  Hopefully we've turned the corner weather wise.

Well, the water is salt water, so I doubt that alligators or sewer rats will be an issue!  Jelly fish, I suppose it's possible, but I haven't seen any and I have done this race the past two years.  The water isn't pretty, it's an ugly kind of green.  There shouldn't be much in the form of waves unless it's a really windy day. The swim is in a protected bay area, so you don't get the big ocean waves.  The only thing you really have to be careful of is if you walk into the water from the beach, you might cut your feet on some shells that are in the area, it's best to go off the pier (which is what you'll do for the race, then go out to a deep water start)--just be careful if you warm up from the shore.  They will have some carpet down into the water at the exit, and I'd suggest you swim up to it and let the volunteers help you out so you can again avoid stepping on any sharp oyster or whatever the heck shells they are.  They will have wetsuit strippers about half way up the run to transition, and then a shower if you want to go through it to get the salt water off!

Hope that helps!!

It was in the 40s and 50s last two days and I've gotten in two two hours rides and plan 2-3 hour rides next  two days.

I need some serious time riding to get my riding back to where it was.

Strange my running is pretty good as I did a 1/2 Mary with my husband last weekend and swimming is coming along with 4 swims a week. I guess that working on your weaknesses idea has brought me to this place.

My husband is doing the Sprint Saturday.

Are we going to have a BT get together maybe Saturday for lunch? I'm coming from MA I want to meet as many of you doing the race as possible.
