Elite 4235 Spring, TX | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread Looks like this thread needs to be revived! It's either way too early in the season for people to start their training or we just don't have many people signed up. I'm hoping this weekend is a little warmer and I'll actually be able to rid outdoors for the first time this year. I just ordered a new bike last week, so this will be my first race on the new rig! So excited to show it off! |

Hope to back into the 50's this weekend! Do you at least have clear roads? At least we haven't had ice or snow... As for the bike, it's Guru Merus, completely decked out. I've wanted a Ti bike for a while, so I'm having hard time staying patient while it's being made! Delivery in a few weeks. |

Working from home today so looking outside my window, still some piles of snow in the yard, and some of the MUT's are still covered with ice and snow, roads are mostly clear. Wife and I are planning on heading out to the country this weekend to get in a nice long outdoor ride. Very cool on the bike. Congrats. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread Less then three months. How was your January training? I am back following a plan working with a coach which I like. Power is coming up on the bike, worked on swim technique for 2.5 months and now onto regular swim training and running is coming around. My mom is sick so I missed some training and will again in Feb as she is having surgery at Mayo.

Be prepared with your own pump. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread I've ridden twice outside when it's been in the 30s and longest ridden this year was 1:30. Hope weather improves as I need some serious bike time. I'm running a 1/2 Mary this weekend so run I'll be okay. I worry most about the bike and the swim well I'm doing more longer swims after working on improving technique for a few months. I do keep wondering why I signed up for an early season HIM when I live in MA..what was I thinking? I do look forward to fun BT crowd there. |

Well, the water is salt water, so I doubt that alligators or sewer rats will be an issue! Jelly fish, I suppose it's possible, but I haven't seen any and I have done this race the past two years. The water isn't pretty, it's an ugly kind of green. There shouldn't be much in the form of waves unless it's a really windy day. The swim is in a protected bay area, so you don't get the big ocean waves. The only thing you really have to be careful of is if you walk into the water from the beach, you might cut your feet on some shells that are in the area, it's best to go off the pier (which is what you'll do for the race, then go out to a deep water start)--just be careful if you warm up from the shore. They will have some carpet down into the water at the exit, and I'd suggest you swim up to it and let the volunteers help you out so you can again avoid stepping on any sharp oyster or whatever the heck shells they are. They will have wetsuit strippers about half way up the run to transition, and then a shower if you want to go through it to get the salt water off! Hope that helps!! |

It was in the 40s and 50s last two days and I've gotten in two two hours rides and plan 2-3 hour rides next two days. I need some serious time riding to get my riding back to where it was. Strange my running is pretty good as I did a 1/2 Mary with my husband last weekend and swimming is coming along with 4 swims a week. I guess that working on your weaknesses idea has brought me to this place. My husband is doing the Sprint Saturday. Are we going to have a BT get together maybe Saturday for lunch? I'm coming from MA I want to meet as many of you doing the race as possible. |
