Ah...I just got the Canadian vibe off of the "Canada: North America's Penalty Box"..../ also mistook MN for MB (dont ask, I apparently don't mail things---my grade 5 teacher would be horrified because I'm pretty sure thats where I learned postage protocols)...I was imagining you living somewhere near Winnipeg...which also has -30 windchills..haha |

Veteran 243 Denver | Subject: RE: Wind Chill Warriors (Team 3) - January Challenge Happy New Year! Dee just added me to the team, and I'm happy to be here! I'm Norine and am just getting back into things... I had a baby boy, Miles, in September and my first run outside after baby, I slipped on ice and broke my ankle. So... after surgery, crutches for 6 weeks, I'm finally able to walk! Running will be awhile, but I'm not in a hurry at this point. I did a few running races and a duathlon pregnant (until belly got in the way) in 2009. In 2008 I did a bunch of races - 5ks to marathon, century, oly and HIM. We'll see what 2010 brings - I just pray for an injury-free year! My goals are up on the spreadsheet - swim, strength, cycle and yoga. Happy to be here excited to get to know you all a bit better! norine |

Btw - my name is Stacie and I haven't done a challenge in a while. I haven't done a tri yet since I am lacking one vital part - I don't know how to swim. Right now the focus is helping hubby lose some weight and lose some myself in the process. We started right before Christmas (talk about keeping it in check) - he is done over twice as much as I am but that is ok. As of this morning I am down 4 lbs of the needed 11 I wanted to lose. He is down 10 of the goal of 30. He seems to do better with someone to keep him accountable so I am eating what he is eating, walking with him (at the weight he is at he tried to run but had horrible back pain) and then I am adding strength and bike to it. So mine is walk, bike, and strength. Go team. Stacie Sounds like you are both off to a great start. What willpower to start before Christmas!! It sounds like you will OWN January!! Thanks Dee. We are hoping to "own" January. Hubby hasn't been at a healthy weight in a few years so this is a good thing to see from him. He decided we were going to start before Christmas - he said he had to do something when he saw the highest number on the scale. The first couple days of the program we could eat what we wanted to get that last "hurrah" if you want before we started. That was christmas eve and christmas and then it has been no holds bar. Neither of us have cheated and we are on day 10 of eating clean. We have soda, chocolate, and beer in the house and neither of us have touched it and have marveled that we don't really have a craving for it. This is a HUGE bonus for me since usually if it is here I want it. Stacie |

I will start thinking of names but agree winter would be nice since it will be January.. Then on to goals. Bike, ST and Walk/Run for me. January will probably be mostly walk for me but I want to get going in the right direction and something is better than nothing. Stacie You bet it is!! And with three goals, it doesn't sound like you are doing nothing! Thanks again. Sometimes I feel bad since I am logging walking on a tri board. But right now I want to motivate my hubby and this is the best way I can as doing it with him. We have all hopes to be up to running by the end of January. For now I put the goals down as walk, bike, core and strength. core I want to make separate from strength so I focus on core that day and the other days I focus on the rest of the body (if that makes sense). |

I just see a lot of times people post in their blogs "not going to log the walking because it isn't a workout".. I think it depends upon where you are with your training, and what type of goals you have. For example, I log my walking. But if my goal was to RUN farther each day, then I might not. (Or I might log it separately.) That way, I could track my actual "running" improvement/efforts. That's why, when I set up a challenge, I let everyone define the activity themselves. Some people want elliptical work to count as "running," and other people don't. So I leave it up to everyone to define the "activities" for themselves. |
