Subject: RE: Mark your calendars!Mett - 2010-05-12 9:37 AM That makes a difference. i may be willing to try then. Any thoughts on how cold this will be in just shorts? I am not good at guaging water temps. Well, 32 is freezing. So 60F is 30 degrees above freezing and 40 degrees below body temperature. 104 is the highest safe temp for a hot tub. 98 feels very warm, but not hotter than your skin. 90 feels hot for a swimming pool. Like comfortable to stand in, but too hot to swim in. 86 is too hot for most lap swimmers, but the temp of most YMCA pools. 82 is pretty good for lap swimming. 78 feels cool and makes you swim fast so you can get warmed up. 70 feels cold. 60 feels very cold, but you can get warmed up in it. 52 is the coldest I have done. It is bitter cold and takes your breath away. You have to fight with your mind, because your instincts take over and don't want to let you put your face in. 40 can have bits of ice still floating around in it. In salt water, it can be 28 or 30 and still liquid because of the salt. People have swum in that. I am thinking of that lady on 60 Minutes who swam near Antarctica. |
