I have both and to be honest both work great! The only 'downside' about the wired is that it will take you a bit longer to install and you have some cables exposed, but I am been peaky. Other than that both are great options. I email the power tap rep and I'll see what sort of discount they could offer; it is inter-bike week so I might not have news until the weekend. If you are considering buying a powertap comp or other (i.e elite+) please email me. The more we can get the better the chance we could get a good deal* * I have no vested interest in putting together an order besides helping BTers to get a power meter and me knowing the power tap rep. The reason I am looking into doing this is because I was asked by members here! |

Extreme Veteran 763 | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program Jorge, I think you should get to know the Garmin rep so that they can donate the new pedal based power systems to all of us who sign up for your program. In turn we will provide them with all of the data we collect and real time review of the product prior to launch. We can be the beta test for the product. Wher else can they get such great feedback from the most likely target market for the product? |

I am shooting to have the plan by the 1st week in Oct so please share your feedback here.

Thanks!
I loved using your plan even if I only did parts of it.Since you asked...I'd like to see the WU and CD percentages in with the actual workouts instead of WU1 or WU2. Just so I have 1 total workout to look at each time and don't have to figure out if I'm doing the right Warm up.Although, the above mentioned spread sheet approach might fix it all together.I'm nit picking so if it's not done this way I'm sure I'll sleep at night Edited by Rencor 2010-09-22 11:44 AM |

Expert 913 Lost in the Evergreens | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program Extending on the idea of presenting the plan in excel spreadsheet format, I would like to suggest you look into google docs spreadsheet. It would allow you to make updates and corrections as needed and still present the doc in the table format many of us geeks prefer. You could start with tab for terminology and warmout definitions and then add a tab for each week as the plan from October through the January. Regards, Mark |

Master 2372 | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program spudone - 2010-09-21 4:12 PM Pros/cons of wired v. wireless? Wireless is nice if you plan to swap the wheel between different bikes. The advantage of wireless in this particular application: You can use the ANT stick to watch your live readout in Golden Cheetah (open source free power analysis program). You can reportedly generate workout files to follow while you are in this mode, though I haven't played with that. |

Expert 1087 Portland | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program I loved the program, I was extremely well prepared for the season because of it! A post program upkeep example might be nice? Once I finished the program I did intervals and one leg drills to try and maintain. I'm not asking for a week by week, what should we be doing after the program, more of just a, if you want to continue to build, try starting with week x and build from there. Thanks again Jorge! P.S. what did the PT come in at last year, just curious cause I may be interested... |

Jorge (or anyone who did it last year) - I'm starting to plan my off-season. Can you give me an idea of number of hours a week I will need to dedicate? Thanks, Roger Roughly 3 - 3.5 if you just do the sessions(3x's a week, roughly an hour each), then on the 4th day an extra long ride if so desired. At least that is what it was last year. The sessions are reasonable in length since they are so intense |

Which is the better wheel [for PT]: Mavic Open Pro or DT RR 465? No real difference between the two rims - both are solid. Wireless means the PM will be ANT+ compatible so if you choose to run it with a different computer - i.e. Garmin, you can. I went with wired simply because the budget didn't allow almost double the cost for a wireless model. And if you are looking on ebay, etc., the DT Swiss 1.1 and 1.2 (IIRC) are the same rims, they changed the name to the RR465 and RR585. John |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program I have some updates regarding the group purchase that I will email to those who have emailed me expressing interest. The discounts will apply to all current PowerTap models. This is going to be a one time deal kinda thing because as I mentioned before, I am doing this to help BTers to get a power meter because I was asked by members here! But I have no interest in having this become a logistic nightmare and spending much time setting this up. For that reason, if you are considering buying a powertap please email me to [email protected] before Friday Oct 1st. Hopefully we can wrap this up ASAP so you guys can get your power meters on time before the winter cycling plan v3.0 starts |

Tell me what you like/dislike or what do you think it is missing? I am shooting to have the plan by the 1st week in Oct so please share your feedback here. Thanks! Jorge, I have been using succesfully this plan 2x in my season and I am using it again for preparing for Clearwater plus some personal sessions I throw in as modifications and long rides. It has been very effective each time I did it and of course it is very though as it should be. I would have several suggestions or modifications to propose you but let's start from the main remarks: 1) IMHO it should be better to mix the types of training together and not doing X number of weeks of VO2max, Y weeks on 20mins focus, etc. As in running, I do VO2max sessions quite often, indipendently of what I am preparing for. I prefer to set a cadence for certain type of trainings, for example LT every 2 weeks, long runs every 3 weeks, 300meters IT every 2 weeks, etc. In this way I build my running plan. The same should be for cycling so let's take an example week
2) It would be nice to have some structure on the optional long rides... |

Deep in the Heart of Texas | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program I am really interested in trying out this program. This was my first real season learning to ride a road bike and I have made lots of progress (50-60 mile rides, handling, cadence, increasing MPH), but I know I have plenty more to learn. My tri season is over and I have a HM in mid-Nov. and I have a couple quesitons. When is the program going to kick-off (approx) and is it ok to do this cycling program while heading into the HM or is it better to wait until after the HM. I am used to 9-10 workouts a week so I know I can fit in both running and cycling. Thanks in advance. |

Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program Me too. Me too. I heard such great things about this program and I have been anxious to participate this year. I will do it by heart rate. Maybe a power tap next year. I do have this silly IM on November 21 that I will be doing very s-l-o-w-l-y. Realistically, how soon would I be able to start this program after that? I don't want to get too much behind everyone else. Maybe I should start the program in October and then just take a few weeks off right before and after the IM. What do you think? |

Extreme Veteran 750 Long Beach, Mississippi | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program I have the same issue - I have a "silly" 2 day 200 mile ride mid November... Can I start the plan in October, or should I wait til after the double century ride? I don't want to get WAY behind everyone else, but the feedback from your plan is excellent, and I want to participate this year |

Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: jorge's winter cycling program Well last year I did B2B full which was a week into Nov---ended up with some serious ITband issues after the race and had to take sometime off---didn't start the plan until the end of Dec or maybe even the beginning of Jan---so I was pretty "behind." The post with the actual work-outs is VERY supportive for everyone---doesn't matter where you were in the plan---there were more then a few of us all over the place. My advise would be to do your races and when you are ready to get back at it---start the winter program! |
