My family thinks I'm crazy, my DH keeps asking me, "are you still going to do this? are you really going to do this?" I have to, there's no way I'm quitting before even trying. Vivian - you can absolutely do this!!!! We will be here to cheer you along and answer any questions you have. The hardest part will be getting in consistent workouts. Just take one workout at a time and after awhile it will become routine. Have you registered for a race yet? - that will help with motivation (can't back out now thinking). Absolutely! That is what this is all about!! Great post Robin! I think one of the first discussions we should have is having a plan to get to the finish line, safe, happy and healthy! There are many routes to go from hiring a coach to using on line plans from this site or other sites. I have used a lot of the plans on the site so if anyone needs some help speak up!! Also, if you are using a plan or a coach now, please offer some feedback for the rest of us. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() robingray_260 - 2011-04-14 10:09 AM I hope everyone is having a good Thursday. It is snowing here (ugh!) so it looks like I will be stuck on the trainer. I can't wait for May to get here as April is the worst month out of the year. Also, need to get a swim in today - I think I will do that first. Yuck! Snow! Have a good swim! |

We have some light snow here as well. Hard to beleive that one of the OWS places is opening in a month or so. I for one will be waiting for things to warm up! Ok, I take that back. Just saw a post on Facebook. They open May 1st. That is nuts! Edited by Kath2163 2011-04-14 9:44 AM |

![]() | ![]() Hi Ken, Would it be bad to do six sprint triathlons from may to september? |
![]() ![]() |
Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm planning on swimming tonight. re: events - I'm signed up for the Iron Girl Spring Tri in August. I have 3 1/2 months to train. I printed the 16 week agressive sprint tri training program last night. I will try to put in the equivalent minutes, but I'll have a better idea of how realistic that is, once I've tried doing it for a week or so. My current plan is to keep doing the gym MWF mornings, and riding my bike in the evenings when I get home. I'll do Thursday night swims and try to add one on the weekend. Time is my biggest challenge. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() NAME: scraver/Sherri - Age 32 FAMILY: Hubby & Son (age 2) Hoping one day for a #2 - but I want to be the PG chick running 5k's and stuff... so I have to get in better shape, first! CURRENT TRAINING: I just started. I used March as a sort of practice month. I tried out bike riding and did some swims. And tried to get a feel for working out a zillion times a week. I was shooting for 2x's a week each: biking, swimming, running and strength training/core work. I am wondering if one swim a week would be sufficient and add in an additional bike or run. I started with swimming lessons at the age of 10 months. Swimming comes as naturally to me as walking (some times even more so - I am pretty clumbsy). OWS sounds like no big deal to me. And as long as the water is above 50 degrees - I am good to go. It is the bike that scares me... what if I have a flat? What if I FALL OFF!? OMG! The horror!
WEIGHT LOSS: I read about how my old bike will probably slow me down (it is a GT mountain bike from the 1990's), but then I realized the extra 45 lbs I am sporting will probably impact me more than any equipment. So I am working to get rid of it. I am trying to find a balance between eating enough to fuel my workouts and eating little enough to lose... but not so little that I am hungry to the point of being CRANKY. It is a hard balance to find. Ken - when I saw that you had lost 100 lbs (congrats, btw!) I thought maybe you might have some pointers on this!

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() NAME: Jon Story: I am a 30 year old Orthopedic PA in Binghamton NY. I played high school and college lacrosse. After graduation from PA school I started cycling and then started triathlons after some pushing from the wife. Each time that she increased her distance so did I, because I couldn't be out done by my wife I had to do what she did. I have done a bunch of sprit distances, some oly's, a half iron aqua bike and a half iron. I am not fast at all but I get the job done hahah. Family status: Married for almost 4 years no kids only a dog Current Training: I am well into the BT Intermediate Iron distance program for Lake Placid this year This years races: Keuka oly, Mussel man aqua bike, Lake placid, lake george oly, and a late 70.3 maybe pocono Weight loss: This would be great I am a bigger guy 235ish after winter would like 215 or lower by placid, but not focusing on that now I am just getting the training in and do not want to completely shock my body. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kenj - 2011-04-14 10:22 AM What is everyones training plan for today? Anything exciting? Nothing exciting for me. Ran 10k, easy pace. Hills beat me up a little. 5k race...they sound easy, but are very uncomfortable. I expect I might do one soon. Usually do one or two a year. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Training for today is a short run 30 min (might be an aqua jog though legs feel spent) and a 1:40 bike gorgeous out, but I am on call so I am stuck on the trainer yet again. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I started my spin class today. I took one class about a hundred years ago. This was the first of a 13 week session. Every Thursday. I think it is going to be very helpful for me. It is only 40 mins. long and I must be sick in the head... b/c I kinda almost wish it was a whole hour. |

Time is my biggest challenge. I think this is true of most of us, but we need to remember not getting overwhelmed. Take one work out at a time, one day at a time, and one week at a time. If you miss a workout because life gets in the way, don't sweat it. Do tomorrows workout and don't look back. If you start missing more than you make, then you may need to look at what time of day you are trying to get them in and look at rearranging. |

Thanks for the bio Sherri! I will certainly try and help you anyway I can, as wil the rest of the group! As far as some of your bike concerns, the confidence will come with time. But with your concerns about tires, etc. check your local bike shop. A lot of them offer courses for basic bike maintenance free of charge. I just snorted water through my nose when I read your what would make me a good mentee comment! |

Thanks for posting Jon! I did LP in 2008, the year it rained all day! Hopefully you have better luck! It would appear that we will be at a couple of races together this year! But I believe we have met at Musselman aid station! If I am not mistaken, your wife was in my first mentor group! Glad to hear your screen name is not a personality statement! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If I may be so bold, I will start with a QOTD (question of the day)... Do you have a bike yet? If yes, what type? Are you comfortable clipping in? Are you comfortable going fast?
