Hi all! My friend and I just signed up for this race as he has a relative in Anderson we can stay with. It will be my 6th HIM. Looked like a pretty good one from what I've read on the race web site and also from what I've read on this thread. Thanks for the intel, elkboy65! Looks like I have to hit the rollers around here where I live to get ready for the run once again. But, just to ask, how significant is the grade on the rollers and how long on the inclines? I saw the course elevation chart but thought I'd ask the question for someone who might know.

Already been through Hell and back on a couple of HIM distances (Eagleman 2008 and Savageman 2011). So, pretty much know how to train for this type of course and weather conditions now. But, appreciate any other intel on the bike and run courses. Gotta ramp up my training a bit to now get ready for this race in 2 months. Bring it on!!

If you done savageman, the bike portion, you gonna be more than fine mostly flat highway ... (Run) Rollers are about 10% - 20% from 30 yrds to 100 yrd stretches....that may not sound bad but its the amount of rollers in the open no shade and heat and humidity that gets most people....just dont underestimate this run course...the more hills you can train on the better you are

Thinking about racing Muncie as my next race this season; it will be my first time with WTC...

Is there traffic to worry about coming in from town in the morning?  If so, would it be easy enough to stay in Anderson the night before and drive in on Rte 700?

Also, is there a family friendly area at Prairie Creek Reservoir?  Playgrounds/shaded areas would be a plus.  I would have my wife and kids coming along (ages 4 and 2.)

Thanks!

traffic is really not that bad for you to have to stay in anderson,  lack of hotel rooms may force you too though....yes it is a family friendly site...transistion area and finish is in the family park,  new playground stuff for kids, it's just one of the best places to bring the family for a tri....keep in mind that this is July and thunderstorms do pop up...so the wife may need to dash to the car and the parking can very from 400 yards fromk the finish to as far as 1/2 mile...

Muncie has a new park area around the start and finish area and my sons play there all the time. Very nice. Plus; we offer a kids triathlon the next day on July 8 in Muncie; Muncie Multi-Sport. Perfect family weekend.

Well I just pulled the trigger on Muncie.  Couldn't find any hotels left there though, so got one in Anderson.  I don't think the drive should be too bad.

Looking forward to the race!

My twin girls will be participating in the 4-6 yr. old race.  Ought to be interesting.   They are much more excited about getting the tatoos (race numbers) on their arms like dad than actually racing Smile

Hopefully dad will be recovered enough the day after to shadow one of them on the course.

It looks like the entire run course is on public roads; can anyone confirm that these roads will be open to drive the night before the race?  I would like to scope out the hills in advance...

Ok, so i emailed Ironman Muncie last week 4 times with a question. I registered as an individual and I emailed them to ask if I could create a relay team with another person (yet to be named) as I had an ear problem last weekend (ruptured eardrum) and the dr doesnt want me to swim for 6-8 weeks at the earliest.  I never heard back from them and the deadline to switch has come and gone.  Any ideas, suggestion, comments on what to do now? Am i just out the money?? Can i do just the bike/run? Too late to find someone to do the swim? Does anyone know anyone who would like to do just the swim?? HELP??? I never heard back from them and now i am slightly panicing

Hi Mait- if you have been swimming in OW 4x week, and are comfortable with the distance, you will do great.  The swim is by far the least significant time expenditure in most triathlons, and slower swimmers regularly place well.  You'll just have a little catching up to do!

Don't push yourself too hard on the swim, and you will come out of the water feeling fresh.

By the way, if you look at swim paces on any results page, you will notice that nearly all triathletes are "slow" compared to "real" swimmers. Tongue out

I noticed you live in Middletown, MD. My parents live there, in the nice subdivision behind the old-town downtown area. Visiting my parents is the only time I get any hill training, since I live in a pancake flat region.

How about that? Small world... Surprised then that you're not doing Eagleman since that course is flat. Interestingly enough, as I've done that course 3 times, entered Muncie on an invite from a fellow triathlete. So I guess it goes to show that you never know who you might meet that might have something in common with you. Hopefully, the rollers/hills here will more than prepare me for the Muncie bike and run courses. A little more than 4 weeks to go!

Still no luck finding a swimmer, looks like I might be out my entry fee unless WTC will let me do just the bike and run segments.

Question for you folks that are familiar with the race.  I'm camping at Prairie Creek Reservoir for the race and was wondering about the set up.  Are the campsites within walking distance to transition?

Thanks

Good Morning 70.3 Muncie Team.

Just signed up last night - will be my first 70.3. I did the sprint there last year and had a blast. Hope to meet some of you there.
