Embarrassing beer story:
When I was 20, my future in-laws took me and my hubby to Cancun.  I had never really drank before, and I had a couple too many Dos Equis at the cantina the first night we were there.  Stumbling Walking back to the hotel,we pass a gift shop with a rack full of postcards and I tell my future husband, in a voice loud enough for my in-laws to hear, that I need to buy a "pisscard" to send to my mom.
still haven't lived that one down.

mmmmm beeeeeer!  I like good beer.  My idea of good beer is a nice pale ale from one of the many fine local micro's.  I don't go much for lagers.  Brown ales are good too.  It's gotta have character, not like wimpy American beers.  Stouts are good too.  There's a place nearby with an oatmeal stout that is pure perfection....

That said, I don't drink much beer at all anymore.  Maybe a couple beers a month is it.  But I don't think twice about it when I do, nor do I go in for the whole 'low carb beer' thing.  Forget that.

The thread title had me confused, so I fixed it.

Beer is food...

Yeah... I remember being completely burned out last summer after a ride back home (I commuted to work 30miles/day + I had my 1/2 IM training....). First thing I did when I arrived home, right after the swimming pool, and before dinner, I poped a can of Guinness and enjoyed it with salted peanuts... Next morning I was fresh like a rose... I can't tell wether or not it really helped physically but it sure did "mentally"!

Cheers,

Christian.

Add me to the club. Like others in this thread, I make my own beer. And I can say with authority - it is the one hobby I have that actually is HARDER on my wallet than the tris

I look at it this way - it is not a vice, but a balance in life. Being a brewmistress and a fan of rare and exotic beers world wide has improved my life and has helped me grow just as much as doing the triathlons. And it doesn't hurt that the extra calories from the beer help motivate me to work hard! Only complaint - the beer hobby isn't as diverse as the tri hobby. Wish some more of the gals would try it out. I am really tired of being the only female who isn't there supporting her spouse at the homebrew store, clubs, contests, etc.

I'm actually putting together my perfect dream vacation right now. It's going to be a bicycle ride through Belgium, with scheduled stops at various brewing monestaries. Ahhhh, the mixture of my two loves.
