Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Sorry for the late intro Kelly. I am the official Kelly Burns stalker, and do whatever she tells me to do. Name: rizer22 (Jeff), age 34.
Current Training: Interesting subject. Currently riding trainer few days a week, and hitting the gym to work on strength. I have two medical issues I am dealing with, that are killing me. IT Band issue, that won't seem to go away, so I have not been running. And a shoulder issue. I was involved in a not at fault accident in Sept 2011, causing a posterior and anterior labrum tear, and partial rotator tear in the right shoulder. Surgery Jan 13th. No swimming for 12 weeks.
Planned 2012 Races: Still building on this. Original plan was Rev3 Quassy HIM in June. Shoulder surgery has nixed that. So tentatively, here is the sched as of now: Glastonbury Ten Penny Ale Duathlon, Rev3 Quassy Olympic, Niantic Bay Sprint, DKH Sprint, Timberman or FirmMan 70.3, Hartford HM, and some various races mixed in (5k's, another Olympic etc) Looking forward to another round of mentoring. We have some great people returning. It also looks like we have a VERY talented group with plenty of IM finishers. |

Sick of losing to Kelly and Rudy I am very happy to count Kelly and Shaun as good friends and glad Kelly let me back for a third take at her mentor group. Oh, I tend to be very sarcastic and blunt, so if i offend anyone, blanket sorry. But i mean well. |

At the moment I'm just working with a free one. Sort of like public radio, you dont have to but this is a good resource and the folks who keep it going do need to make a living... also you get access to certain training log features and plans. I have had all levels of subscriptions and find silver works for me. |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED While we all listed facts about ourselves, I thought it would also be useful to list our goals for 2012. I pretty much have one goal for 2012 -- to qualify for Kona. I have two shots at it, Ironman Texas in May and Ironman Florida in November. I need to shave about an hour off my PR and get down to a 10:30 to have a realistic chance. |

Extreme Veteran 378 Acton, Ontario | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Wow, sooo many different people in the Mentor groups, I have no idea how you keep track... I have a few goals for 2012, most of which involve hitting benchmarks at various distances: 5k - sub 18:00, 10k - sub 38:00, HM - sub 1:25, 40k TT - sub 1:02, OLY - sub 2:10, 70.3 - sub 5:00, hopefully sub 4:45 Despite the fact that obtaining these goals largely depends on race day weather, they still serve as markers for me to work towards! |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Got some intervals in this morning on the treadmill. It was raining here so I didn't have many options. Hit up some yoga afterward. Have an hour forty run scheduled for tomorrow. I think it should be paced somewhere in the low 8 min area. Goals for this year: Get on a new ride Approx. 2:30 Oly If I get to do a 70.3 I'm looking for something in the 5:45 range.
Just numbers really. I just want to keep progressing and getting faster. I'd also like to see the 150s on the scale. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Good morning, all! It was really nice to actually take a rest day yesterday and spend some time really focusing on my kids. I was ready to work out this morning though! My goals for 2012: - 1:45-1:48 at the Cleveland HM (as a new, slower runner, I would be beyond ecstatic with a finish time in this range) - 5:30 finish at Half Rev Cedar Point (a 5:30 would put me in top 10 women 30-34) - All my other goals are more form focused, and any other races I'm participating in are prep for Half Rev Cedar Point. I'd like to go 2:40 at my oly races. I'd like to start riding in groups this summer. I think it would push me on the bike. I'm also going to participate in my first century ride as part of my HIM prep. I'm doing a 2 mile open water swim race in July (also a first for me). I'll be focusing on bike handling skills, riding and running lots of hills, and swim form with a master's team. I'd like to hire a swim coach in the spring to give me some one-on-one attention, so I can really see where my flaws lie. |

Veteran 446 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Good morning- I tried a few months ago to set up a picture and failed. I asked my wife to help and she decided it was our computer. We recently set up a new computer so I will give it another try. 2012 Goals Train injury free. I really want to continue to build a base since I keep reading that with a good base comes faster times. Right now I don't have number goals for races but I would like to break 2 hrs for a HM. As I get closer to my HIM and IM I am sure I will have an idea of what I will want to do timewise.

Pro 4528 Norwalk, Connecticut | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED And I am Rudy Name:Rudy B (rudedog55) Family Status: I am married with a 2 year old daughter. Weightloss: i was a skinny kid that got fat on booze and crappy food, i am currently on my third winter diet to lose the last 25lbs, i have already lost about 15 of those and have a little bit more to go. Goals: I am an ultra competitive person, i set big goals and work my tail off to get to them, all while trying to maintain a life/family/race/training balance. It is not easy. Rev 3: Sub 5 hours, have a top 5 amateur bike split Patriot: Sub 4h 45m, place in AG m40-44 and have fastest bike split of the race Mossman: Sub 1h5m, place or win m40-44, lower my current bike course record Martha's Vineyard: Sub 2h15m, top 5 overall, Sub 1hour on bike 5k: sub 20m 10k sub 40m Bike racing: win the Bethel spring series Cat 4 class, upgrade to Cat 3. Place in a Cat 4 Cyclocross race and upgrade to Cat 3
As you can see, it is all about the bike for me, my race revolves around it and i train it to race it all out and then worry about the run. As Jeff-y says, i am the Chris Leito of this mentor group. Kell-y was one of my first BT friends and real lif friend, Jeff-y is probably one of my best friends in real life, both of those guys are partially responsible for me being where am today. Don't hesitate to ask questions, this is one of the best mentor groups EVER on this site, you all have joined a great group of people. |

This is actually a fantastic point. In my experience, consistency is the key to getting faster. What this means is swimming, biking and running in a sustainable way day after day. Getting faster is not about a 12 or 20 week plan or key speed sessions, its just about getting it done. Right now I'm in the middle of 12 weeks of base (all aerobic biking and running). At the end of February I'll start building for IMTX. In any given year, I'll spend about 20 weeks in base, building (and re-building) the aerobic engine. For me. doing aerobic base work is the best way to stay injury free and stay consistent.
