Steph,

I would love to join your group if you still have room.

NAME: Marcus - otisbrown Medford Lakes, NJ

STATUS: Married with a two year old daughter.

STORY: 37 yrs old and relatively new to this sport. I began traing for my first triathlon last year, but the event was canceled due to a little storm. Before that I started running about two years ago to try and get myself healthier and in better physical shape.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: A couple of 5Ks and an aqua run. The aqua run was a good learning experience for me. It didn't go as I was hoping but certainly tested out my swimming abilities and i learned a lot about swimming in race; like make like the turtle not the rabbit.

2012 RACES: I would like to find a tri for the late spring or early summer and late summer. There are tons to choose from in this area, I just need to pick them. I have signed up for the NJ State Sprint, which is in the middle of July and will be my A race this year.  I will run a few 5ks in between and the same aqua run for a comparison to last year.

Welcome Marcus!

I like a triathlete with a sense of humor... I think it's an underrated quality.

Where is Medford Lakes? My husband grew up at Fort Dix and I have a friend in Maplewood and another in Wayne.

Nice to have a lot of choices for races... we have that here in Miami too!

Hello! I would love to join if you still have room...

I am 25 and was really out of shape and unathletic until I started playing rugby in college. That sort of inspired a lifestyle change. I fell in love with the sport, and added on hiking,  and biking (I'll say hill biking....mountain biking would be deceptive). last summer I also started some kayaking. i love feeling fit, but its definately been a many year struggle with me, to stay off the couch and out of the fat jeans.

Right now Im trying to get back in shape after having my daughter (she's aaaaaaaaaaaalmost 5mo) we ran our first 5k on Thanksgiving (stroller and all). Not fast, really slow actually 41::35 but I was ecstatic. So now Ive set my next goal for a sprint distance in 2012.

I don't like running, and I don't know how to swim, lap-style. This may be a mission in masochism. But Im really excited to get going, especially since Im about to reunite with my husband (who has been in Korea for five months, he's airforce) and were getting transferred to Utah. Im trying to convince him to train with me.

Hi Steph,I would like to join your group if you have room. My name is Lisa, I am 33, a stay at home mom of 2 crazy little girls and a team leader with Wildtree Herbs. I'm crazy busy with lots of things but know the value of taking time for me and my health.I have been a runner for years have done one full marathon and three half marathons. Lately i have been getting a little burnt out and am craving something other than running. My brother in law has inspired my husband and I to give triathlons a try. After watching his first one last summer, my husband turned to me and said exactly what I was thinking... We are doing this!So I am super motivated and plan to do two or 3 tris this summer, the first a sprint in early june, hoping to start with the sprint and move on to the Olympic depending on how the whole swimming thing goes. Looking for guidance on the best way to train and build up endurance. I love to follow a program if you have some you like to get me started that would be great. Thanks!

I would love to join your group.

NAME:  Patricia –  Warren,  MI

STATUS:  Living with my Significant Other and two cats.  I work full time in a doctor’s office which keeps me busy 4-5 days a week.

STORY:  I had my 49th birthday last September and got to thinking about my old, fat out of shape lifestyle and what was I going to do about it.  I saw Tara from the Biggest Loser a few years ago do an update this year and she did a full Triathlon and I got inspired.  While I knew there was no chance of me doing a full Tri, I thought there must be a mini version, which brought me to you.  I signed up for a Sprint in June and thought that 6 months should be enough time to get ready to do a Sprint.  I have a long way to go, but that’s ok.  I signed up for a Tri and I told all my friends about it, so I feel obligated to do this race and at least not embarrass myself.

2012 RACES: Tri Goddess Tri Sprint on June 24, 2011.

GOALS:  Getting in better shape, hopefully losing a few lbs along the way.  I am training so I will  NOT be a DNF or DFL, somewhere in the middle of the pack is fine by me.   I got a membership at the local Rec center and I’m swimming laps, running on the treadmill and riding a stationary bike until the weather gets better in Michigan.

My boss, in an effort to get the staff healthier got us a personal trainer for 6 months 2x a week.  She is training about 10 of us so not sure how much individual attention I will have, but hoping she can help me fill in what kind of exercises will enhance my other training. We can use that gym too while we are there for training, and they have a track.  If it’s not enough, I’m not against getting my own trainer at the Rec Center. I took a swim class too, to help me work on my strokes.  It starts in a few weeks.

I seriously need to work on my eating.

I am also trying to figure out this site, there is a lot of stuff here to figure out.  Bear with me.

YOU are so welcome!! Nice work...you're on the right track! Rather than a stationary bike, see if you can get into a spin class. A spin bike allows you to stand and get a feeling of climbing etc. If you can't than the stationary bike is OK.

I'm so excited to see how you do! You have good running shoes and good running form? Technique is pretty important to gals 'our age' as we injur and wear pretty easily.

Cheers!

Nice work on the 5k! and if you can handle rugby, this will be a piece of cake for you. AND Utah? what a fantastic place to train!! wow! nice timing on that baby btw...

It's ok if you can't swim lap style.... flip turns are for sissies AND there are no walls to push off in the open water. OWS, open water swimming will be a new thing. The pool is good for technique and the swim is ALL about technique. You can google Mr. Smooth and go on youtube and check out Total Immersion swimming as well.

WELCOME!

Isn't the whole atmosphere at a triathlon just AMAZING!? Ya just GOTTA do one!

Runners, if they can manage to swim well enough, usually do well in triathlon so you are in good shape there. Endurance is something you learn as you find out just how much and how often you need to train. Rather than trying to fit it INTO your life, you sort of need to change your lifestyle for as long as it takes to get one done. Some people just stop... one and done. But many people find that the lifestyle is better and more fun than whatever they were doing before. The cycling is so relaxing, the open water swimming makes you feel like a little kid.

Ok everyone...two more days left of 2011.  Who has a resolution for the new year?

Me, I am a sugarholic. Even though I can't eat most candy and regular baked goods due to food allergies, I find many other ways to get my fix. I'm just polished off the last of a delicious wheat and diary free chocolate cake.   So, my resolution is that I'm giving up sugar for 1 month.  I'm hoping that after the month is over I will not crave it anymore and be able to go on sugar free (well maybe some yummy dessert every now and then).

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days.  Between X-mas, the crazy work schedule and sick kids it's been tough.  Still have to get caught up and read posts from the last few days.

Anyway, was finally able to get to the pool last night.  It's been over 2 months since I was able to swim and took it nice and easy.  600m in 50m sets w/30 secs between sets.  Felt good to finally get moving again.  Unfortunately it's raining tonght so the plan is to head out for a 2-3 mile run w/the dog tomorrow night.  Hope everyone is doing ok.

Besides my yearly goals that I have posted on my training page, I am going to give up my Chai tea lattes.  What started as a once a week treat has become a 3 or 4 a day habit.  At 200 calories a pop they are getting riduculous.  Back to regular and herbal teas.  I will allow myself one per work day to get me started. (I don't drink coffee)

Good Morning all!  Wet drippy day in Central Illinois.  Anyone have any fun workouts planned for the holiday weekend.  I plan on sleeping late tomorrow and then doing a loop at our local cemetary.  Sounds odd but it's a really neat old cemetary and they hold 1/2 and full marathons there a couple of times a year.  Lots of hills to practice on.

I have noticed that we have quite a few people new to BT in our group.  One thing to share that might help with navigating the site.  When you get an inspire - if you want to respond to it hit the reply button that is next to the delete button.  This lets you respond to the person who posted that inspire.  If you start typing in the comment box at the bottom you are only inspiring yourself not responding.

Looking forward to a great group and an active fun filled new year!

It's a wet drippy day in northern Illinois too!  Planning on a run with friends tomorrow.  Hope the weather cooperates.

And I hear ya on those lattes.  At the Whole Foods by my house, there is a cafe and you can get a latte made with rice milk.  I would stop there on the way to school and get one.  I especially loved the pumpkin spice. YUM!  Not only many calories, but getting pricey too.  No more...for at least a month and then I will allow myself one a week as a special treat.

Resolutions:
Suzie
Sugar? Hmmm. I like beer. I have already cut my consumption to almost nil. So I need to pick something else! Did you go to an allergist to sort out your issues?

I for one need to lose a bit more weight… so 2 or 3 afternoons a week at the gym is my resolution. Oy. 165 to 140lbs... oy

Fred – good job getting back in the pool with everything you’ve got going. I really love it and since it’s just an elevator ride away…. I should do it more often. Have a fun run, I hope it stops raining!

Angi – We have a 8 miler tomorrow with the ING Miami training group, then mimosas after. Sunday we have a Resolution Run on the beach at 10:00am. Then at 2:00 we can go to a Chi Running session at a local park.

INSPIRES… I’m still not so good at inspiring but I try to remember (thanks GMRGRL angi). Use the reply button that is next to the delete button.

HI Steph,  thanks for inviting me to join your group.  Looks like you had a good number of former McFuzzies join - that's great.

Since I'm a little late to the party I'll try to get all the information in one post.

About me:  Single woman in my 3d season of tris. Last year I did 3 sprints, 1 international and 1 HIM (my first!).  I also did 3 HMs- 2 of them were supposed to be marathons, but injuries changed my plans.  I've been struggling a bit with motivation lately, so I haven't really plotted my 2012 season.  However, I am considering either ING Miami HM in January or Melbourne Beach HM in February.  I am also signed up for a February Spartan race (8 mile run with obstacles).  I did this race last year and it was a blast - hard, but fun!  I'm pretty sure i will do another HIM this year and some shorter races.  I also think I'd like to squeeze in a marathon.  Of course, all that is dependent on finding my motivation.

On to the resolutions.  I've never been one to make them, but I do need to get back to eating more cleanly; these last couple of weeks have been bad, and I am adding p90x2 to my routine to work on overall strength.

Sorry to hear of all the bad weather some of you are having - not to rub salt in the wounds, but it is absolutely gorgeous in Florida today!  In fact, I just finished a 5 mile run.  Running late morning in Florida is not something we can too many months of the year, so this was a nice change!

Happy early New Year!

Ann-Marie

Hi there,

Yup...I'm doing the Lowell First Run 5K in Lowell, MA on Sunday. Thank goodness the start isn't until 11:00am! Good luck to all running races this weekend, and happy New Year!

Aside from doing at least one tri and continuing to do at least on 5K race each month (my one successful resolution from 2011), my other resolution is to learn to play the guitar. I also need to learn Danish as I will be moving to Denmark in November 2012....yikes! Gotta get my sprint tri in before the big move....looking at July and September.

Subject: RE: StephSprint... mentor group CLOSED!

I dont have any resolutions planned for this year.  Two goals I have are to train more consistently and shooting to break the sub 22min 5k.

I will hit the gym tomorrow to get some cycling in and will run on Sunday assuming I am able to function.

Have a happy new years everyone.
