Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Now that my February race is over I can think about this one! Are ya'll coming and camping Friday night, too? Or waiting till after NOON to arrive Saturday? I'm undecided. Start my training plan today, but am having to work around an April marathon, a May 70-mile charity ride, and a May Olympic. FUN!

Extreme Veteran 516 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread This is a bit short notice, but I saw this on ST and I thought I'd pass it along. On Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 3 p.m. EST, there will be a live chat on the official Ironman 70.3 Facebook page featuring Ryan Robinson, Race Director of Ironman 70.3 Kansas. He will be available to answer all of your technical and race-related questions. For additional event information, and to register, visit www.ironmankansas.com. And BTW, Lisa, are you too good for me now, getting you're own camping spot?

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Ha! I thought I was too late to the game to jump on combined camping so just got my own Just wanted to check in with everyone - the rain finally stopped falling late last week in Kansas-land and this past weekend was absolutely perfect for training. Got in a good 2-hour ride and 16-mile run and it really invigorated me for this race! How is everyone else progressing? |

Extreme Veteran 516 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread I'm tentatively planning on riding the course on the weekend after Easter (14th or 15th) and then once again on the Memorial Day weekend (26th likely) before starting my taper. But if anything gets organized in between I'm open to it. |

Pro 4339 Husker Nation | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread I'll be in for a training day get-together sort of thing, just as long as I have some advance notice. Justin Scheele and I were already talking about something last month but we haven't settled on a date yet. Sounds like Memorial weekend might work for lots of folks so I'll try and keep that weekend open. I'm getting excited for this race! I'm finally to a point where I can train for and complete the distance again and get my revenge on what happened in 2008. |

New user 3 Prairie Village | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Hi folks. I'm Jessica, new here (though I read all 25 pages of the '11 thread yesterday like some sort of lunatic!). I haven't yet signed up for KS, but have lots of reasons to: live in KC, training for IMLOU, timing/course/conditions are ideal. My only hesitancy is in the race day logistics. Ideally, I'd camp so my family can be there, but our little vintage camper would = sweat box without an electric site (only primitives are left – to be expected at this date). Our kids are just 3 and 6 – not quite old enough to get "HTFU" – so without a cooled camper refuge, I'd rather they just stay home and save their spectating-in-the-heat skills for IMLOU. So, my question is: Is it reasonable to drive over from KC race day AM for an anxious first-timer? And what about the drive home? I'm independent to a fault and quite used to training and racing solo, but for some reason this trip intimidates me. Tell me I'm being irrational! |

And what about the drive home? I'm independent to a fault and quite used to training and racing solo, but for some reason this trip intimidates me. Tell me I'm being irrational! Absolutely. There should be no problem driving to the race the morning of. Before I decided on camping I would have planned on driving the morning of myself. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time. I would plan on the traffic coming into the park to be slow moving. This may require an earlier start to your day, but the sooner you get there the less stress you put on yourself. ETA: I've made the trip multiple times down K-10 (from Olathe) and the trip back and forth is no big deal at all. Very easy. Although, moving through Lawrence can slow you down with some of the stop lights. Edited by Barkeep 2012-03-28 10:59 AM |

Last year was my first, but I woke up between 4 and 5 like I always do on race day and headed over. No big deal. There will be a little line to park, only 5-10 minutes. Then it's a pretty long walk to transition, good warmup. Bike check-in is the day before so that really helped erase morning pre-race jitters as you knew what to expect. |

I don't have much to add as it will be my first year at KS and I will be doing Louisville as well. Are you on the Facebook page for Kansas citians doing IMLOU? New user 3 Prairie Village | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Kansas : Official Thread Thanks Mike & Reece! -- and just to clarify, I have made the drive many times (hence the ridiculousness of my fretting!). We were just there the other day to visit the crazy dioramas at KU's Natural History Museum (highly recommend for any out-of-towners looking to entertain some overheated kids on race weekend). I'm not from the area but when I did this race in 2008 my wife and I stayed with her aunt/uncle in Leavenworth and drove in each day (packet pick-up, bike check-in, race day). That was when the race started on the opposite side of the lake and I think it was a little bit more complicated logistically, so I think you'll be fine. |

If you are interested shoot me a PM and I will send you my phone number. Patrick, does 9:30 work for you, or will you be sleeping off a final four hangover? Reece, you going to make it or are you doing the 100x100s with masters swim? |
