NO WAY, NO IMWI!!!

If I am going to do an IM it will be the easiest of the IM's ... the flattest.  I see no reason to torture myself with one of the hardest.  However, the IMWI course would be good bike training.

I am 100% with you. I'm doing my first HIM in June and I picked the flatest course that's close to me as my first. I doing another in September that has more ascents but still isn't crazy. If I get to the IM stage it's going to be Florida, Arizona, Cozumel or something else flat. A guy in masters swim was trying to talk me into Lake Placid and I told him to save his breath as he had a better chance of talking me into doing training runs in the Bronx after dark.

Kelly - really was was your first thought?   you have to redo my training? What is she thinking?  WOW that's awesome, another IM'er on board?

My first thought was she's going to want to do IMWI AND Chicago AND Marine Corps.

Swim and a run this morning.  I'm going to ride later on.  Looks like 80% chance of rain so I'm guessing trainer.

I'm seeing lots of posts in the local tri community here intimating that Lance was rude to quite a few folks this weekend.  No concrete stories though.  I too think he just missed or didn't hear his daughter standing there from the video of the finish line.

Also -- Scott -- Shaun is shipping the crank so you should have a new toy to play with this weekend.

Also if anyone is looking to purcahse any Fuel Belt products you can use the code "QT2Friends" for 20% off.

Fit4Infinity - 2012-04-02 9:00 PM

Name: Fit4Infinity
(Mark) 52 and in the best shape of my life.

Story: In 2005 I faced a family crisis and came out of a dark place
motivated to save my life.  I lost over 150 hundred pounds and reconnected with deep need to be in motion.  Given the new found potential to do anything, I focused on becoming a triathlete.  This sport allows me to design a course of action, plan, prepare, execute the plan and after evaluating the plan begin again. Blending the mental, physical and spiritual.  I’m very technical and pattern oriented,  and enjoy training with HRM, Power, and T-Pace.  My weakest link is my passion and inexperience causes me to over drive, brake hard, accelerate to much, ending in the finish chute, a sweaty mess without any thing left in the tank.  I’m working on smoothing out the rough parts, but it might take forever to get it right.  My strongest natural discipline is the bike, but I equally enjoy the swim and the run.  Perhaps it is because I’m still seeing great improvements in my swim and run that I motivated to capture further rewards in the disciplines I have the least experience in.

Family Status: Married to my Best Friend for 21 years, with 3 labs.  They are competitive as well with MH, Intl CH and MACH titles.

Current
Training
: I am experimenting with a EN 8 week program.  With 32 weeks until my A race I am technically between plans.  I ride indoors or out 5 days a week, swim and run between 2 and 4 days a week.  My life style stacks 3 workouts a couple of days a week and long workouts on weekends.
I could benefit from some structure, but honestly enjoy workouts so much that I find it hard to take days off.  Training vs. Working out, yes I could benefit from others experiences.  As I get closer to the 20 week timeline for IMAZ I will address the question of separate SBR coach, local coach, online
coach, online plan vs coaches plan, ecetera.  This is another area where I can grow as a mentee.

2011 Races: Issaquah Sprint, Kirkland Sprint, Lake Meridian Oly, Bonney Lake Oly, Half Rev Portland. 4 Century Rides, 3 Half Mary’s, Pf Chang’s R-n-R Marathon in Az, and I volunteered at IMAZ.

Planned 2012 Races: Issy Sprint in June, Ramrod in July, Lake Meridian oly. in August, Black Diamond Long Course tri in Sept. peaking in November at IMAZ. (Likely to race more)

Weightloss: After losing 150 pounds and a lot of muscle, and gaining back around 40 mostly muscle (I hope Smile ).  I’d like to lose another 20.  I know it can be done without losing muscle, but I need to eat 5-6 times a day to fuel and recover from my workouts.  If I start skipping meals my training performance fails very quickly.  I’m considering going to a nutrient timed fueling system of measured calories on a time interval approach.  I feel really good at my weight but would race much better at a lighter weight.  Ramrod is a one day ultra-marathon cycling event of 152 miles with over 10,000 elevation gains.  I’ll never been built like a pro climber, but if there was ever motivation to be like one, this is a mountain of it.

I'm curious about your thoughts with regard to the EN plan.  A friend of mine is using EN to train for IM Austria and  I think the protocol in interesting.

DDVMM - 2012-04-02 9:49 PM

I'd like to join in again! I love this group!

Name: DDVMM/Michele

Story: This is my second year in triathlon but I have been running and bike on and off for many years.

Family Status: Married to a wonderfully supportive man with 4 beautiful, active, and busy kids (12,11,8,3)

Current Training: Currently training for several sprints and my 'A' race is an olympic this year. I would like to train for a HIM either in 2013 or 2014. I have a plan I am sort of following from BT but I have been looking around for online coaches/plans - I feel lost at this point.

2011 Races: Several sprints and half marathons

Planned 2012 Races:  NJ State Olympic, Unite half marathon, Danskin sprint, Iron girl sprint

Weightloss:  I am always looking to lose that extra 5 pounds.

I was thinking about you last night -- I just signed up for the Bassman Half in NJ in May.

I'm neither a Lance fanatic or hater as a precursor to saying that if this was from a US news source I'd put a lot more stock in it. The Europeans simply hate him for dominating one of their sports for such a long period of time. In terms of his doping I don't doubt it but at the same time hope it's not true but the reality is those who can afford the best chemists can hide from detection and stay ahead of the game. That said not one failed test in all those years is impressive.

I love European Tabloid papers (particularly the Daily Mail) its a major guilty pleasure along with episodes of Toddlers and Tiaras while on the trainer, re-reading the Hunger Games books and Nutella (but only in small doses).

My daughters have taken to watching Dance Moms because other kids at school do. Similar but different to Toddlers and Tiaras which I've seen. They know it tortures me so they try to get me to comment on it hoping I'll break and say something inappropriate about the mothers so they can rat me out to my wife.

We all have guilty pleasures.

Kelly, I'll def take a Road ID code.  $15 off??? Wow.  I've only seenthe $1 coupons.  TY!!  I already have one, but need another.

As for "racing" with you at REV3 Olympic, that was my second hope.  I have not been able to swim since my car accident last September, and won't be released until May 1 to start swimming.  I'd drown  on the Olympic swim with only a month to train.

Plus, you left me at the alter for the Niantic Bay Sprint last August!! I know, it was a week or two after IMLP!!  I forgive you!!  You did volunteer though, and and downpoured all day.  TY for that!!

I have to say I'm guilty of watching Dance Moms if time allows for it.  LOL  I read trash mags in the salon (but I don't subscribe!), eat crunchy sun butter by the spoonful (at least 2 spoonfuls a day), check out the True Blood forums sometimes (delicious cheese), and chew gum all day long.  You're right; we all have guilty pleasures, and that's what makes us interesting

Anyone have a good site for more specific tri kits.  I see all these awesome kits out there with sponosors on them etc.  Tired of wearing "all black" tri shorts. Well, black in the "twig and berries" area, as Scott calls them. I love my desoto Forza Tri shorts, just wish they had a little more on them.

My climbing power sucks. If I ever get good at it then I'll attempt something like this but I'd be DNF on something with ascents like that. Also that wouldn't be your first would  it? You really are nuts if so. I'd much rather do the distance once on something flat and then do a big test like that.

Yes, it would be my first, and yes, perhaps I am nuts.  My climbing power sucks, too, but perhaps it won't by 2014.  That's a looooong ways away.  We'll see.  I picked a flat and fast first HIM this summer.  I've never ridden a flat course before, so maybe I'll be drawn to them.

Scott - NICE ride!! Remember, pasty white is the new sexy! Use sunscreen! Prevent skin cancer!! (sorry, had to get that plug in there!)

everlong - how old are your daughters? I have 3 daughters (12,11,3) and a son (8).

Kelly - Bassman is only 40 minutes from me!!! LMK if you need a place to stay, seriously!! I could offer you some space here, as long as you know its quite noisy with the 4 kids (dog, and 3 cats too!)  ! I would love to go down to watch you race, but it is the NJ half marathon and my animal hospitals open house that day so we have a packed day already! I have considered Bassman as my first HIM for next year so I will be really interested how you think it is!!! Can I have a Road ID code also - I have one, but I need one for a dear friend who rides solo all the time without ID - I yell at her all the time!
