Sappho - never thought of that, I've never even had a bike without "knobbly tires" and I'm still figuring out the gears, lol - only the second bike I've had with gears - but I may look at it at a later date.

Dumb question - is it worth getting aero bars on that bike? I just looked at the price of the road bikes and they're a bit rich for my blood, but when I do aero position on the gym bike I seem a lot more comfortable than when I use the regular sitting up with the traditional handlebar set up

Hey suzie, sorry it took so long to reply. Aero bars would not be suitable on a bike like yours; first because the benefits would be negligible with the type of bike you have. Secondly you would hardly be able to steer it. Maybe look into different shaped handlebars: http://www.commutebybike.com/2011/05/11/trekking-handlebars-and-oth...

that's ok Sappho, I'm still thinking of getting a better bike when I have the money - probably a few years, oh and the link you gave me showed nothing - just a whole bunch of tabs with a 404 error on the specific page you sent me to

Looks like you're all going well, I'm still yet to get out for stage 2 but I will eventually. I keep leaving it too late to go out and it's too dark, plus I've been lacking energy the last couple of weeks

I will get out eventually though

Got in another 30 miles this morning, it was nice a cool but super humid.  I'm in New Hampshire, so the mornings are always cool though we're experiencing some of the heat as well.

No problem with using the bike you have.  I'm riding a online road bike I got a few years back for less than what some cyclists on here pay for their helmets and sunglasses!  I'd love to upgrade to nice TT bike, but that may never happen for me either.

Just keep pedaling everyone.

Hi team! Nice to see some numbers raising up on the spreadsheet. I got in so many miles the last few days that I took today completely off. Ahhhhh, it was a sweet day of rest from my bike and training in general. Tomorrow I'm back at it because I'll be out of town on an unplanned trip until the 20th. I'm taking my old road bike with me and will plan on getting some more miles in but then I'll have to do a couple long rides on my return to meet my goal. I WILL do it, though, so don't panic when you don't see me post in the week. Keep up the good work all!

I got in a race saturday (sprint triathlon) and a 25 miler ride with 1300ft of climbing sunday morning to get up to 60% of my goal.

When is the last day for the challenge ? End of TDF or End of Month?

Got my long ride done today- 63-ish miles.  That helped catch me up a bit since I'd taken an unexpected day off training last week due to lingering soreness from last weekend's long run.

If I stick to plan next week, I should be able to reach both my stage and time goals for this challenge!  From what I remember, the challenge ends next Sunday, the 22nd.  At least, that's when I'm hoping it'll end since that's what I'd been counting on when I set my goals in the first place!

Good luck everyone this week!  It's the final stretch, we can do this Smile

Sappho - yes I've done ventolin before going out - that was just a really bad day for my breathing.

Looks like everyone else is doing well. I'll probably be lucky to get 50% of my goal for this challenge with the inconsistencies I've had the last couple of weeks but I promise this week will keep me consistent.

Any chance of another cycling challenge that could help me do the same?

Another session makes 3 but I can't work out how to enter it - there seems to be two pages and one is weird saying I've only done 1 session but with wrong percentage (1 out of 11 = 13.xx% whereas the original which I can't change cos its in trash saids 2 out of 11 = 18.xx%)

So can someone please put in the new session and tell me what's going on with the pages?

Anyway ride went great (although I had to push really hard on the last mile) - 3.02 miles @ 4.68mph (38:41 time) I could breath, I could climb hills the lot. So tomorrow session 4 (5 miles) is on the books although it may be split up with a swim between, I haven't decided yet

Ok I got in to the  document and was able to update it but just a note to whoever set it up - your percentages are off - I did the calculations for Mine and the first person on our list and they're both off - mine readling 22.xx% (meant to be 27.27) and theirs reading 54.xx% (meant to be 50.69)

well done to all of us for giving the last week of the challenge a bigh push!!! especially suzie who has battled crappy asthma and rubbish weather. well done everyone! just 10 miles for me today as i was very thirsty and hot. same again tomorrow and friday and saturday and i'm done paris is in sight

btw suzie the % are weird as i think they account for stages and distance or time. i've just rejigged my formula as i am only riding distance. yours is 3 staghes of 11 so far yeh?

Sappho - ok don't know where the rubbish weather is but I'll be getting in another 2 stages today either side of a swim. As to % didn't think about the stage and distance deal, but mine which is only based on stages was wrong anyway. Thanks for rejigging the formulas though.
