Member 75 Platte City | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule http://ultramaxsports.com/5150kansas/index.html Registration is live now on active.com, only $75 from now til 12/31. I am going to email them to see about a possible combo deal for St Louis 5150 and Kansas City 5150 (though St Louis still hasn't been confirmed anywhere...) |

Extreme Veteran 695 Olathe | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Was that another google search? I poked around Ultramax site to see if there was a link and the 5150 site, nothing. Seems like the only way to know about it is to find the right google word combination? |

Member 75 Platte City | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule I went to the kansas5150.com website and got redirected there. ST Louis 5150 is just lucky google search terms. Use those press creds and get an official statement from somebody, you could be the first to break this story! (not that there is a huge audience for this type of this, but still) |

Extreme Veteran 695 Olathe | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule It's definitely newsworthy, but the last article I wrote went over like a lead balloon as they didn't really appreciate several things about it. I offered to meet up and even buy them beer to get the real scoop they want out, but never heard back. That's my main frustration with this part of the KC Tri scene. Maybe I don't know the right people or play the right game, but it's all somewhat shady and hush hush as far as PR goes. I guess they will send out what they want, when they want and we are all just along for the ride. I've worked with Ruckus Run, Warrior Dash, The Midwest Tri series (formerly KLM - and not the hugest of fan bases around these parts), Lifetime Leadman Epic 250, Epic Dartmouth and more... and they all were super excited to get the word out about their event and more than happy to open the curtains. But... they are not local and want more exposure in this area. Take it for what it's worth. |

Member 75 Platte City | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Ultramax seems to be making a major play to change all that, and they seem to do quite a bit better job with the pr. This is probably a good thing for this area honestly, they have put on good races in the past, and hopefully they can continue to do a good job on getting news out so that attendance will pick up a bit. The problem is likely the WTC (5150) veil of secrecy. They will give details when THEY are ready... |

Member 75 Platte City | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Awesome! Penciling that date in for sure. No mention of slots for 2013 Hy-vee on the ultramax site though. I snagged my slot at last years Hy-vee, but I know a few other people trying to get one. |

Extreme Veteran 516 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Interesting stuff. A little sad with the changes. Particularly because their isn't a Kansas City Tri in its typical calendar slot (or if there will actually be one at all - pending any future announcement) and that the 5150 race is moving venues. In fact, I really enjoyed the set up of last year's schedule. I'm curious as to what prompted the switch (access to venue complications)? I'm probably being a little bit of a downer, but as much as I love the KS 70.3 location, it just doesn't appeal to me to do two races in one season at the same location - unless you do the 5150 just to test the course before the half, which I have no need for. I've normally done both of these events, now I'm not sure. On the other hand, I may want to qualify for Hy-Vee again and I may have no other choice if I also race the KS70.3. |

Extreme Veteran 388 Overland Park, Kansas | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Once youn get away and do some races at logistically great locations, with good communication from the RD, start/finish not 1/2 mile apart, one transition location, wet suit strippers, and run/bike courses that don't share the same congested road, you look at the Kansas 5i50 and yawn!Sorry but it is what it is..... |

Member 75 Platte City | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Check the map....1 transition at this race. Nice jump to conclusions though. I actually liked the two transitions at kansas 70.3 last year. It freed up a bunch more space, except for the people who think its necessary to bring two of everything.Secondly, how hard is it to take off your wetsuit that you need someone to do it for you? Watch the pros, while they have access to the same wetsuit strippers, none us them. That had wetsuit strippers at redman, which was an amazingly well put on race, but that was unnecessary. I felt bad for the volunteers more than anything.I agree on it being disappointing they could find a slightly different route for the bike, but hopefully the hills will keep some of the drafting at bay...Not sure where youve raced that was logitically awesome, but the best thing a race can have is decently close parking, which this has.... I really don't understand your issues with this race... |

Veteran 1127 Shawnee | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule It would be really cool if UltraMax offered a package including the KS 5150, Innsbrook, and Tinman. Or even just a package for 2 of the 3. Or, even better, an "all you can eat" type offer with all of their tris next summer...similar to what Rev3 offered. I would be all over something like that especially as a Christmas gift. Edited by dprocket 2012-12-14 10:26 AM |

The Lawrence course, while cool, is old hat for me and I'll race it in June like always. I'll probably skip the 5i50 this year. Edited by lisac957 2012-12-19 11:46 AM |

Extreme Veteran 1279 | Subject: RE: Summer of 2013 KC area triathlon schedule Logs?!?!? We don't need no stinkin' LOGS!!!! Actually, the training this fall is well ahead of last year's training. Much better running and biking base so far. Hoping to keep it up through the bad weather months and have a head start on next season come March. I realized this season that my running and biking overall mileage was lacking and have been working to improve that. I honestly believe I can knock 25-30 minutes off my Kansas 70.3 time from this year. Heck, probably on the run alone based on how bad my run was in that race this year. |
