It's off! I am not supposed to run for a couple weeks. Going to start swimming and biking a bit more. I am ready I feel like a lazy bum for not doing much the last 3 months. |

That is great news I am betting the last 3 months must have seemed like an enternity! I could not imagine going that long without doing some type of training. |

It is very simple........finish. Could care less on my time as long as it is under 17hrs!!!!!! What are you most looking forward to? The finish line of course! Being out of shape and windy left me 1+ mph slower than usual summer training around the loop. Roads in good shape little pea gravel left over from some resurfacing this fall, no issues on fast sections. Drivers in good mood, some even cordial. Saw hunters and heard shots on the first day of gun deer season, didn't die...flak jacket worked well. Will continue to update road and driver conditions as long as the ice and salt stay off the roads, and darkness keeps from creeping fast. |

I know it probably isn't going to happen soon but, I would like to do the course with a group before I start to ride it solo. Planning on riding it a few times before the canon goes off next year. I live about 2:45 away. Couple of years ago I did the WIBA (Wisconsin Ironman Brick Adventure) and enjoyed it. They organize it for free and you pay all of your own expenses. They have a dinner that you can attend and someone gives tips about the course. Saturday you can ride the course and Sunday they do one loop of the run course. Expert 2380 Mastic Beach, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Man I envy you guys who live near enough to be able to train on the actual bike course. I will probably not be able to get the opportunity to do that and will have to find the hills here on Long Island and do it that way. Has anybody used the Computrainer and virtually rode the Wisconsin course that way? I am seriously considering getting one to do so I can become familiar with the course. Not ideal I know but probably the next best thing. |

I'm sure someone has, but since the bike course changed slightly (which added more hills) I would see if the virtual is the latest as of this year. I live within 30 minutes of the Monona Terrace and will be happy to Sherpa this coming race season as I train for Moo '13. I'm not in the 18-20 mph avg range (yet), though, but hope to be so that I can do one loop at that speed for the faster peeps. I've done the race twice and have volunteered since '04, so know the venue pretty well. Good luck training, stay healthy, and hope to see everyone get to that starting line! |

Not ideal I know but probably the next best thing. I have ridden both the course and the Real Course Video on the computrainer. The course has slightly changed but the video is pretty close to the new course. It would give you a good idea of both the layout and difficulty. My average pace (on the Real Course Video) is slower on the computrainer than on the actual course. I think when I trained for WI in 2011 I averaged 16 something on the trainer and about 17 something in the race. I like my computrainer but there are lots of options out there now for trainers. |

I didn't realize that they have changed the course, although I can't say I'm looking forward to more hills I definitely want to become as familiar as I can with the course. Any feedback and advice from you guys who will get to train on the course will go a long way. |

Thanks for the feedback and that was exactly what I was hoping to hear. Now the challenge will be to see if my wife will allow me to get one. I've already started working on that. I am hoping she gets tired of hearing me talk about it and gives me the green light to go get one. We'll see. |

I do have a Computrainer and find training on it is valuable, and it gets me ready for outside riding in the Spring. However, one thing the Computrainer will not do is give you all the turns on the course, but you will get a good hill workout and a general idea about the course. I live in Madison, have done WI 4 times, so feel free to PM me if you have questions. Nicole

Thanks Nicole and yeah we have plenty of hills to ride on Long Island so I should be fine there. It's funny you mention it but I was concerned more about some of the turns on the course and being able to navigate those safely. I'll have to see if there is something close to that here that I can practice with. I know it's still early but I know I will be asking more about the bike course as the year goes on. |

Tony, The turns on the course aren't bad at all as long as you are aware that you have brakes on your bike and this is an Ironman and not a sprint. If you are ever upstate and are looking for a ride I live in Binghamton and there are lots of great roads with little traffic and very similar to the IMWI terrain. I would say I would look you up if I'm in L.I. but I'm "allergic" to downstate and the traffic down there. :-) |
