Although it's a little early in the year for IM Canada I signed up for Mountain Madness Half Iron on May 5th.  It's the nearest half iron race I've found that kind of mimics the IM Canada course.  I've seen 2 different elevation charts from but it looks to be 3,400 - 4,400 feet elevation gain according to which one you believe.

Hey everybody

I'm a whistler local and this is my first full IM I am very excited about it being just outside my door. If anyone has any questions let me know I will try help as much as I can.

Also if anyone is looking for a place in this whistler blackcomb foundation have a foundation slot up for grabs.

I'm doing Wildflower the same weekend, also with significant elevation on the bike (and run)

Since this will be the product available on the course I figured I better try some out.  I ordered the bars and gels from Amazon through Prime for free shipping.

Hopefully I can digest them to make life less complicated on race day

Thanks for posting this as a reminder for me to try out the Honey Stingers.  I recently did Bone Island Full and completely spaced out on the gels for the run and was used to PowerGels and they had Hammer Gels.  The second I took a Hammer Gel I got sick to my stomach.  In fairness to Hammer Gels I think my GI issues were already doomed but I threw up within a minute of taking one.

I train with a variety of different brands of gels. I might even stash different brands in a jersey or jacket pocket for the same workout. If your stomach gets used to one kind of product that's never great. I get my stuff from www.mec.ca

I'm headed up to ride some North Georgia mountains this weekend to start prepping for August.  I wish I had good climbing that was closer but a 3 hour drive isn't terrible.  Happy training everyone

I've been eating the HoneyStinger gels and bars for a couple weeks and they are working fine.  One less thing to worry about!

Now to the 3:20:00 trainer ride tomorrow...

3 hour trainer ride is in the books! I don't mind the cold but cold and wet is a no go for me unless it's a race.  Happy training

YIkes!   3 hours.   You are tough.

Spring just hit here today.   wore a vest and arm warmers for about an hour of the 4 hour ride today.   Got hot in the hills.

Anyone know if there is a spot before the race where we can swim. Just seeing if when I get there I will be able to test the water a bit.

3 hours outside Saturday and then we were hit with 15 cm of snow... should be melted enough by the weekend for the next long ride.

I read somewhere (the IM C facebook page, maybe?) that the practice swims will be at Lost Lake, but have not seen anything official

Just noticed this today. I'm in.

I'm Greg. I have done eight 70.3s and one full IM Canada 2011. I did IM Canada 2011 on a torn adductor, so I finished 1:13 over my goal (which was under 12 hours) and didn't try it last year as I was still not recovered.  I am 44 years old, work full time and am mostly doing it for fun. Trying to go under 12 hours, maybe 11 if my training goes perfectly, and I can keep the leg healthy. It's still not right.

I went up in December to see the course--the lake was iced over--snow everywhere. I walked on the lake, which was weird.

Want to go back in late May or June to ride the course. I'm pretty flexible if anybody wants to plan a time with me to meet up and ride. I'm camping for the race. Trying to not to overspend. I'm also doing Vineman 70.3 in July in Sonoma, CA.

This was inspirational to find. I am sick of the rain, rain, rain (I'm from the Portland area). I've been getting a little lazy lately. I need to kick up the training a bit.

hey Greg,

I'm already trying to rope my friends into going up to ride the course, but the reception has been lukewarm, so I'd probably be interested in meeting up. Post on here or shoot me a message when you're planning on heading up.

Be kind of nice to get thoughts on it from someone who's done the distance before too.

Don

I am going up to ride the course the weekend of July 13-14.  Quick up and back...drive up afternoon on Friday, ride on Sat, home on Sunday.  Limited vacation days. There are 4 of us going so far.

I am sure I am on the slower side of you guys...but if you go up in May or June...post here as I'd be up for going again.

How was Cali70.3 for you? My 70.3 distance race isn't for quite a while. Feeling fit enough to do a decent swim and run so fat but cycling takes longer to come around.Masters swim meet this coming weekend, so a lighter run/bike week and a Half Mary at the end of the month. I have an oly in May, Sprint in June (need to pick up a slot for ITU worlds in 2014) . Then July 7 is Great White North (70.3 distance), a couple of ow swim races and then off to Whistler.

Went really well, almost met all of my dream goal times.  We've had great weather for training here in southern California so the fitness was all there.  I have Wildflower 70.3 in a few weeks, then a few sprints/olys before Canada.  My issue will be making sure I don't burn out.   I am taking a weeks vacation after Wildflower in mid-May before starting true Canada training, so that should help

This weekend is 18 weeks!   eek!   Seems much closer than saying 4.5 months for some reason

Not doing the wildflower 70.3, switched to the Oly due to minor tendonitis, so only have sprints/olys up to race day

This week I booked all our air, rental car, and post race lodging and travel, staying up in BC through 9/3.   Gonna have a great race-cation no matter what happens 8/25!

Just a bump cuz, well it needed it

Training going well?  I just did Wildflower Olympic tri, was supposed to do the 70.3 but recovering from an injury, didn't want to make it worse training for and racing a 70.3  All healed up.  I am going on vacation next week, then when I get back it's full on Canada time!

My swim is right where it needs to be, actually a little ahead.   Bike is good, I just need some long rides, but I've done a few 4 hour rides.  Run is a little behind, but just need to be smart about building up without injury.  getting to the start line injury free is the victory here
