Member![]() ![]() | ![]() I used the custom builder for the series and stretched it out as far as it would go, which I think was 26 weeks. The only issue I see is the Boulder peak race which is placed right in the middle of a pretty big training weekend. Not sure how to handle that yet. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() It will definitely get you into your small chainring and get your heart pumping. I think it will be the only really big climb of the day other than some good rollers on Hwy 52 coming back into Boulder. Wait until you see the decent on the back side of Carter lake though. My bet is there will be a speed limit set up, otherwise you will see riders in excess of 60 mph coming down. I've come down at 55 and it was pretty white knuckle kind of stuff before I start working the brakes. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My wife and I did a course recon recently. The bike course looks fast! The run will be pretty cool, maybe a touch crowded in spots. I heard from a few folks that the bike course may change a bit and eliminate the Carter lake area. That descent will be wicked fast and hairy as heck as is!!!! |

Starting training today, so I wanted to get back on BT and say hi. This will be my 3rd IM. I did B2B in 2012 for my first full distance, and then IMLP in July 2013. Who else is local? I'm just hoping this deep freeze up north will end soon. Cycling indoors is past the point of being old. Only 147 days until go time... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, week one if you are doing a 20 week program. My week has started off bad, only 1/6 workouts so far. Worked 0700-2200 Tues then back on at 0700 the next day. Then combine that with the wife working evenings when I get off work, it makes it difficult to get anything accomplished with 3 kids 4 and under. I have to get it figured out though. I should buy a treadmill because running will be the most important thing for me to train this year, that is where I will get the biggest gains. |

Long run starts at 90 minutes but I did 65 instead and will increase by 10 minutes per week to build up a little more slowly. Swims are just twice per week for the first 8 weeks. Hit pretty much all of my workouts though I tapered the intensity a bit as I'm coming off a pretty good cold/flu. After using the Fink plan two years ago, this new plan I'm following has more intensity and volume and I'm hoping for a huge PR...Getting excited! |

Swimming fitness rolls downhil to the run and weights are integral part of durability. There is no way to fix biomechanical issues without addressing them in the weight room with functional exercises. I've heard that many people have done well with their plans, I wonder what those people would do while addressing limiters too. Are you living at altitude and does the plan address that? |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice to see some fellow IMCDAer's on here. I'm in. I only hope it lives up to IMCDA. I'm not sure the love I felt from the locals and volunteers can be duplicated. We (husband, son, and myself) also did CDA last year and are attempting Boulder this year, along with a 2nd son joining us. So far it has been very cold winter, keeping us indoors on the trainer - still. (Starting to feel like we're stuck in situation like the movie Groundhog.) Factors that will be tough for us living here in the cold sea level mid-west will be high altitude and heat. Also really do not know what to expect with the swim and water temp. Read that it should be wet suit legal, but am wondering if it ever gets close to being too warm. |

I've done Boulder Peak in mid-July in my speedskin and was plenty warm. Plan on wearing a sleeveless wetsuit and you'll be fine. |

Yes I live in Highlands Ranch and train around 6500 feet (our mutual buddy Tom Beal lives around the corner from me). The plan doesn't eliminate swimming, though it breaks into it slowly. The first 8 weeks has you swimming twice per week while the last 12 weeks is 3+ times per week. This is more for mental reasons I think. They seem to get away from swimming during the Out season where they focus on the most return on investment, i.e. bike/run. They do emphasize drill work and the importance of proper swimming stroke though. |
