You're right....there is a MT 70.3 / IMMT package (and I think it's a good one), but I was thinking that a Timberman-IMMT would *also* be a good package. Timberman is reasonably close to major population centers of NY, Boston, Albany, Hartford, Montreal, etc. - and draws triathletes from the entire region. In other words, perhaps WTC can have two 'feeder' 70.3 races for IMMT. I wasn't suggesting replacing MT-MT with Timerman-MT, I was suggesting they could have another. In this way, you would almost guarantee instant sell-outs for MT 70.3, Timberman 70.3 and IMMT. I would imagine that WTC is looking at creating other packages around the country/world - it's a good way to make sure races sell-out. |

Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread It does sound like a good idea. But for whatever reason there's a big stumbling block into getting Americans to drive across the border into Canada for races. IMLP sells out in a couple of hours, while Tremblant (a far superior venue and course to LP) takes a couple of weeks. They're basically in the same neck of the woods. I think these feeder races are a good idea, especially to fill races that don't fill quickly. LP and MT don't fall into that category but it seems to make sense to combine something like St. George 70.3 with IMCdA, Texas 70.3 with IMTX (although both races do sell out), I have no issues traveling to Canada. I will have done four IM races from Aug 2013 to Aug 2014. Three of them in Canada... and I live in Texas.

Expert 2380 Mastic Beach, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread The problem with a Timberman 70.3 - IMMT package is that they are usually done around the same time in August. This year they are on the same date. They would have to move one of the other and I doubt they would do that. Timberman is pretty well established and seems to do pretty well. Pairing that up with another IM would make more sense especially since they have an MT 70.3 - IMMT package already. |

No Canadian issue for me - in fact, I'm a big fan of anyplace that has a Tim Hortons. I registered for IMMT 2014 and my passport is ready to go. My wife and daughter just renewed their passports for the trip to MT. GMAN - are you also doing IMMT this year? |

Member 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread 54 days to go....how's your training going? I'm feeling pretty good about where I am right now. I need to increase my long runs and incorporate some more hills into my training, but in general I'm fairly happy with my current level of fitness. It would probably also help to get some outdoor rides in, which for a number of reasons I haven't done yet, but I'll get there. How y'all doing? |

Training seems to be going well though I had to switch a bit more to cyclling/crosstraining due to a couple of minor running aches/pains at present. Doing better with those and will see during the Half Marathon this weekend. I also have 2 tris to race prior to Syracuse which should be good "warm-ups", especially Black Bear Oly a few weeks prior. Hill training and what I call "long bricks" are in the plan before Syracuse as well. Looking forward to it! Hope for good weather too. |

309 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread I don't want to jinx anything, but things are really going as well as I could expect, knowing my experience previous with long distance training (none!) and my typical speed (turtle!). I actually rode with the fast gals during our girl's night ride. I typically ride B group and was able to ride A even after a weekend of long ride/runs and hills. I felt great! The yardage at the pool increased yesterday from 2000 to 2500 yards. That was hard for me, but I finished it in 1:05. I spent my birthday evening at the gym yesterday. The birthday PB sandwich and Nuun between the treadmill and pool was the highlight of the evening! lol SO.... all things considered, things are going great! Veteran 267 Coopersburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread Im training for IMLP and doing this race as a warmup for the LP event so my distances and time spent training are allowing me to feel VERY good about this race. During my very first HIM, I felt that you really need big volume to do well, and this IM training is doing that for me. I recently ran a 1:34 open HM and felt very strong the entire race. My swim is leaps and bounds better than it has ever been and my bike is right where it needs to be. And yes, lets hope for some great weather! Quick question for those of you that have done this race before, I was looking at the course profile and it looks like the majority of the climbing is in the first quarter of the race and after that its basically all flat or downhill. Is this really the case? |

Also, if I'm not driving home until Monday afternoon, is there a good place in the Syracuse area for a good post-race massage? Thanks. |

Member 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread race day is fast approaching...how's everybody doing? I think I'm doing ok - been fairly consistent with my training, but think I need to step it up a bit in the last 2 weeks. Syracuse is more of a training race for me as IMMT is my A race this year. That said, I want to do well, so I'll push myself upto taper week. I'm starting to feel the early pangs of nervous energy as race day is only 20 days away...anybody else? |

Veteran 178 , New York | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread The hills really are as they look in the elevation map, it's all in the first 10-14 miles. My advice would be to not even look at your speed when you first get on your bike. I did and was so discouraged at my splits, but with all the flats and nice downhill at the end I ended up pulling off a decent time anyway. Really, once you get done the first 1/4 of the bike course you're all set, and the downhills into the end feel great and are pretty scenic too. I'm doing something similar to Jayabusa and racing this upcoming weekend (Eagleman) so the nerves for Syracuse haven't hit me quite yet...mostly because I'm entering my taper week freak out for a different race. It will be interesting to see how a flat, but really hot/humid race compares to a relatively hillier, but cooler one at Syracuse. |

It will be interesting to see how a flat, but really hot/humid race compares to a relatively hillier, but cooler one at Syracuse. Good Luck at Eagleman! Done EMan 3 times and conditions can vary, from hot and humid (it was 95 at the start of my run 1st year), to windy (headwind for 25 miles the 2nd year), and then to decent. Just looked at the weather forecast and though still a ways out, looking 83 for the high which isn't overly bad plus it won't be overly humid to shoot heat indexes up. But, the thing is, if you haven't acclimated to that, you're going to probably have to take things a bit easier than you normally would and hydrate more often (ice on the run, no visor). You will be constantly pedaling on the flat course, which is deceptive in how it wears on you. Also, very little shade on the out and back run. Fortunately, athlete support in the past is pretty good along bike and run. Definitely not much comparison between hills vs flat. The former you're working on those hills possibly standing, but then get a rest going down hill (many folks actually prefer this). The latter you're constantly pedaling in the aero position for long stretches. For some, this can be uncomfortable for long periods if you're not used to it. So you get no break while you maintain speed. After I did Eman in 2011, went on to Savageman later that season and had to completely change my training routine to all hills vs light rolling/flat. My last two races have been ones with hills and fast descents. So, hopefully I'll be prepared to face the Syracuse bike course in a little less than 3 weeks (OM-Gosh! Less than?? ) Again, Good Luck and good training until then! Edited by sbrdave 2014-06-02 4:53 PM |

I should note that's approximate based on some factors the web site uses, but I found it's a decent approximation. Edited by sbrdave 2014-06-03 5:41 AM |

Extreme Veteran 423 Frederick, Maryland | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse : Official Thread Originally posted by LarchmontTri Yikes, race day is getting close. How is everybody doing? What??? There's a race soon??! Looking forward to it though as it will be my first time on this course, understandably a bit anxious. But, it will be a good "warm-up" to IM Louisville and....wait...I really registered for that?! Seriously, though, training and prep races have been going okay. New bike has had issues, though, and hopefully those are worked out now. So, should be ready to race and meet the course challenges head on! So, still a big training weekend with a bit of a taper this next week prior to the race. Hope all have a good week and you get to the starting line! Edited by sbrdave 2014-06-13 6:08 AM |
