I have been doing well. I don't have any time that I can take off, I have 78 days until IMCA so I have to make the most of my time. I had a bit of a problem yesterday. I forgot to take my water bottle to work. So I missed drinking about a gallon of water. I didn't think it was any big deal.

After work I went and ran 6 miles. Drank a water bottle before the run and after. No problems. I took it pretty easy, 9:15ish pace. I then went to spin for 90 min. About 5 min into the warm ups, my calves felt 'crampy'. That sometimes happens and it usually works itself out. I made sure to drink a whole water bottle the first 20 min of the 'ride'. About 40 minutes in, my calves cramped really bad. I had to hop off and stretch. Then I kind of changed from doing drills to just doing an endurance training ride. I still had problems but I managed to keep my legs spnning for the whole 90 min. It was hard and I didn't want to continue. But I figured if I have cramping problems at IMCA, I want some experience dealing with it. Hard, but not impossible. I didn't have a lot of fun.

Tonight I have a swim lesson. I am getting to be less of a disaster in the pool. Saturday will be a swim workout and I hope to get in a couple of hours on the bike. Sunday will be a 8-10 mile run depending on how my legs feel. Either distance will fit in my plan and sched.

Tammy, Chronometro is such a cool place. I am insanely jealous of your trip. If things go well at IMCA, I may have to get rid of (ok, not get rid of) my Lemond road bike and get a tri bike....we shall see.

Tom, have you decided on a nutrition game plan (product as well as timing/amount) for IMCA?

Well its only the first week of my scheduled training but it is going awesome. I have not had a plan to follow in probaly a year and a half so it is fun to look at it in the morning to see what is on the agenda.

The first month or so will be really easy just getting in the hours and acclamating myself to that kind of training again. I say again but really seeing this is my first season of tris I guess 3 sport training is sort of new to me.

This weekend holds a 1:20 to 2:00 hour bike on Saturday and 1:00 to 1;30 run with a 30 min spin on Sunday. Hope everyone's weekend goes well!!!

I have been experimenting with nutrition. I have no idea what to eat or what my body will 'take'. I've been using Gu the past year to fuel, but it seems like I will need way more calories than that provides. I have been 'practicing' with gatorade to make sure my body will handle it ok. So far, I've been fine. I've been using stuff that i know the course has on it. I was going to experiment with fig newtons as I know the course will have them. So far I am enjoying the gatorade. I have been toying with the idea of a all liquid nutrition.

I use GU as well, but you must use water to dilute it when you take one in.  Are you using regular Gatorade or Gatorade Endurance?  GE uses a better form of carbs than does regular G and has better electrolyte composition.  But even GE is not very calorically dense.  Unfortunately, they pay big bucks to have it as the official drink of many races.  I used Infinit for IM WI to start out with and then I switched to GE when I ran out of Infinit.  Worked fine for me, but you should experiment with it on your longer training rides to find out if your stomach tolerates the combo.

For a half ironman I would lean more towards a liquid-based game plan with 1 or 2 GUs mixed in.  Fig newtons seems like it would take a lot to digest for a shorter race...maybe OK for IM if you can process it.

The key is to practice nutrition on your long rides and bricks and go into the race with a mental checklist of when/where you will do certain things.  Helps to even write it down and tweak the plan in the weeks leading up to the race.  Don't leave anything to chance.

Thanks for the tip. I thought liquid MIGHT be enough but I wasn't sure....

Has anyone heard from Sarah recently? I hope she is doing well.

Oh, I enjoyed my day off yesterday....I know my body did too.

Pretty decent weekend for me.  Skied 40 km on Sat on 2" of new powder, then a solid 12 mile run on Sunday.  Finally got a 4" snowfall last night to clean up the landscape.  Still in need of a lot more snow for the last few weeks of racing.  Can't believe the month is half gone already.

I turned 46 on Sunday!!

I keep on keeping on. Training has been going well. 6 days on, 1 day off. Although, I try to take my swim lesson on my day off. Since it's just a lesson and not really a workout, I still count it as a day off!

Yep, I consider my swim lessons to be active recovery.

Minus 14 degrees at our house this morning!

Just trying to get a "rise" out of you.  I figure if you are fiesty enough, you will be motivated to greatness at IMW 9-07....

I think the CC Skiing is terrific....not a whole lot of opportunity in So. Cal. for that...

Sorry about crashing....and I was not real serious about my stupid comment....

I forgot my manners...I should have introduced this Larry Davidson guy from CA to the rest of the group.  Larry and I met via BT and Ironman WI this past fall.   He had a great race and ended up qualifying for Kona in the 50-54 AG !!!

Nice. I think I'd like to do Kona someday.

I had a 5-6 mile run and a 60 min spin scheduled last night. I had the pleasure of throwing up about halfway through the run. I finished the run and decided against the spin. I've been feeling a bit sick so I think it was the right call. Does make me feel a bit lazy though.

Well, I'm sick.

Runny nose, sneezing, and cough....but no fever.

So no fever means I work out. I did an easy run and worked hard at a spin. Felt fine when working out. Felt horrible after.
