I have pneumonia and the doctor told me I can't do any running,biking, or swimming for at least 3-4 weeks. And after that I have to come back slowly. I was really looking forward to doing the race and meeting everyone. Good luck to everyone and happy training. |

I first checked online for the cheapest rate I could find for a cabin, which ended up being $1045 for a Friday check-in, Monday check-out. Yikkeess.... So then I decided to try another route and called their reservation people (407-934-7639). Tried the normal AAA and other discounts. No good. I then asked if there were any other discounts I might be able to find out there, and she mentioned an ad they were running in the Florida papers. Ends up they are having a special deal which just happens to cover these dates! So, instead of the advertised $319/night, she gave them to me for $244/night for "mentioning the ad". Total ended up at $857 for 3 nights, 4 days after taxes and everything. Not too bad I thought! So, if anyone paid more than that, you might try calling and trying this route. There's no cancellation fees, so assuming you get the "mentioning the ad" deal, you could cancel the other one and save some serious cash. 90 days and a wake up. ![]() |

Hopefully there will be more kayaks when we swim and less Pontoon (sp?) boats. Those things stink up the water and give you deisel breath. yuck. |

I wanted to do Lucky's Lake Swim last year, but never got the chance...you could "feel" this warm water-gotta be close to the lake at the race. |

I didn't do the race last year, but I saved the course map that was on the website a couple of months ago (which I assume was last year's map) and it is a little different from the current course map. I haven't ridden/driven the course yet, so I don't know if it is more or less hilly. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The following is excerpted from the FL70.3 course info web page Run "13.1 miles (3 loops) The 13.1 mile run is a three-loop course that will be on the bike paths and canal roads of Fort Wilderness. Aid stations approximately every 1 mile will provide you with everything you need. On the first and second laps you will turn right just before the transition area and repeat the course. The finish line will be next to Ironman Village and Multi-Purpose Pavilion. Run cut-off time will be 7 hours after the start of the last swim wave. Athletes will not be allowed to start the third loop of the run course after 3:00 PM." I can't make sense of it. It says the run cutoff is 7 hours after the start of the last swim wave. In the swim section, it says the swim cutoff is 9am and that is 1hr 20 minutes after the last wave start. So, if I add 7 hours to the last wave start of 7:40am, I get 2:40pm. That seems to make the cutoff for the 3rd run loop moot. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() After cogitating on the info provided on their web page, I am guessing they meant the following for cut off times. Swim cut off is 9am. They state this explicately. They also state that this is 1 hr 20 minutes after the last wave start. They also state that the bike cut off is 4 hours after the swim cut off. This makes sense. It would put the bike cut off at 1pm. They would need to have a time set that ends their on the road contracts with police etc. I think they really mean that the run cut off is 7 hours after the swim cut off. This would put an official race end at 4pm. This would also make sense of their statement that they won't allow you to start the 3rd loop of the run after 3pm. If I've got this right, that means the very last wave to start has 8 hours 20 minutes to finish. Any start before that is gravy. So the last wave has to be able to average 3 minutes 47 seconds per hundred yards. 10 minutes in T1 14.6mph on the bike 10 minutes T2 12 minutes 59 seconds per mile on the run. This is going to be a cinch. It's like my son in law says; "8 hours is just a days work". |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Panout; I think that is because the bare minimum time allowed is 8 hours 20 minutes. That is only if you are in the last wave start. However the, first swim wave starts approx an hour before that. For each wave you start before the last one, gives you an extra 3 minutes or so. If they do the waves like they did last year, I get almost an hour extra. If they do it like the sched I saw for Calif this year, I still get an extra 24 minutes. If they started it like I'd like it to start, I be in the last wave. Even at that, I think I have a good hour worth of pad over what I expect to do, and 2 hours over what I hope to do. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Time to chime in i guess. Hey everyone. Gary here, doing my 2nd Fl. 70.3 . Last year was a blast. Did it on a whim- bought a bike in jan '07, stated swimming in April. TOTALLY UNPREPARED ! Had a Blast!!! Met a lot of great people at the race but no B.T. ers. This year i am better trained.....except the swim---my fault, and i am looking forward to seeing you all at the race. I am staying at F.t. Wilderness even though i only live 35 minutes away. I want to spend more time at the Ironman village and be walking distance from the finish. Enough about me, there a couple of things i need to share with everyone. 1). RIDE your bikes to transition for check-in. Otherwise they get stacked in the luggage area of the bus you take from the parking lot. It's only a mile and there is someone to stop traffic as you cross the street. 2).The wave times will be posted at registration on friday., Athlete and spectator guides usually show up on the web site 2 to 3 weeks before ( please take note last year was a cut and paste job from Arizona I.M. so if your not sure about something ..ask on this site) 3). The courses: Swim: counter clockwise triangle, Dark water but easy to sight buoys on left or canoes on the right. It is Highly unlikely that wetsuits will be allowed...folks last year it wasn't even close. Bike: After leaving disney property you will be on county roads. Deceptive rolling hills from Hertzog road ( 21 miles) to Stony Brook ( 34 miles), then flat and fast back. ONE EXCEPTION-at 31 miles McKinney rd. Trust me go to your smaller ring up front for this 200yds or so. Run: 3 loops mostly off road. HOT!!!. Take water and grab a sponge or 2 at EVERY aid station. This is where people of all fitness levels get in trouble. Hydrate people! I'd like to try to supplement my carry-on nutrition plan with stuff from the aid stations, and just want to make sure I test this stuff out in training prior. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm not an expert in that area, i was a true newbe and got by on water the whole day. Live and learn. I suppose the nutrition available is pretty standard at NAS events. I will give it a go with water, gatorade and powergels. They have worked during training and my body is used to them. I will,however, be taking a sip of (warm) soda the last 3 aid stations. It worked really well last year. I have ridden the northern half of the course to get used to gearing the rolling hills and 1 major climb. One thing to note: There will probably be a north west to north east wind that time of year. Sunday i rode into a 15mph wind ( gusts to 22mph) as i headed north. P.S. thats where the hills ARE. Not fun. |
