Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Up at 5:45 this am.. bearly got in my 6.1 miles before work. Oh well off to focus on the bike for the rest of the week with some gimp short distance stuff in between for runs. Puts me on track for my goal though. Back to report writing, I'll check in at lunch. Did I say I am not a morning person, at all. Used to work graveyard shift in ER doing psych evals, well 3pm to 2 am anyway, although I did my share of 24, 32 and 48 hours shifts too. Bikes must reseach bikes, 34 miles on a mountain bike is just painfully slow. And Oh I didn't know that Zombies ate anything, I would think the rigamortus would have set in and the bloating in the stomach due to all those decomposing substances would cause constant oozing out of most orifices. As for goals for the month... hrm oh look it is 10/2 at 8 am and I am at 23 percent of my montly goal. It is a good thing that Zombies can count walking for their total milage, cuz they can't run. Now if drooling counted we would all be in trouble..... Edited by Baowolf 2007-10-02 10:47 AM |

Expert 1580 Ankeny, Iowa | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Hey everyone - I did a 1.5 mile run last night - it was all I could fit in since with yard work before storms today I ran out of a daylight. I will do another 2.0 or so tonight. Good job to those that worked out yesterday. You guys are doing great. To post in another teams message, just go back to the forum, click on the link to the team and post a message the same way you would post a reply here. For bikes, I ride a Trek MTB right now, but hoping in the next year I can get a road bike. We will see what happens though. Right now the money is going to grad school instead of road bike. I do have one question - would you guys like me to post the spreadsheet with updated runs each day or weekly? Do you guys have an opinion? Thanks, Stacie |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread There are 1 million bike brands.. depends on your $$$ I am looking in the 1k to 1500 range with toys will probly be 2k total out the door. Brands: Specilaized Allez, all 105s alluminum frame but carbon fork, seat post, lifetime frame, 1k to 1500. Specialized Roubaoux or some such .. 3rd step up is full carbon but 2500 ish. Raleigh Prestige: moslty carbon frame all 105s or better 2006, $1100 (where im leaning atm) Dont go Raleigh Grand Prix... too much of a step down. Giant OCR ... many like this bike forget stats similar pricing, aluminum frame. Felt... tends to be pricier then there are lot more including the brand you are looking at. Usually you want to go with carbon forks, seat post and full 105 setup or better, get a tire upgrade if you can, use an 11 28 or 12 27 rear gear setup with a double front... is what I have learned so far.. geting it FIST fitted is important and ide prefer 2 waterbattle holders cuz i get thirsty after that first 12 miles. My 2 coppers. If you have 4k or more you would have to research those ... I am on the economy plan. Edited by Baowolf 2007-10-02 11:19 AM |

it isn't that bad. I will try to do it daily but I won't promise anything. I have a little trip to Vegas the middle of this month that might get in the way of daily posting. Edited by dimplespoo 2007-10-02 1:02 PM |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Well I had an awesome walk today (yesterday was a planned off day which worked well since my new Ipod arrived, which came in handy today). Warning this is a tad long (I tend to ramble). I have been walking at least for 30 minutes and speed walking up to 20 minutes of that in chunks of time up to 7 minutes at a time before today. I've had alot of problem with shin splint pain (ah, brings back memories of lacrosse practice in high school). I've been doing tons of stretching, but it's definitely been a problem and was what was limiting my blocks of speed walking (endurance-wise it was okay). Anyway, today I got going and as I hit 5 minutes I only had a little pain in my left shin, so I decided to try to get to 10 minutes. When I hit that (after the steepest part of the walk), I still felt okay and I'd found a great song on my Ipod to pace myself to so I figured I'd just see how far I could go and keep repeating that song. Well, long story short, I managed all 20 minutes in one shot. It was a total of 1.25 miles (so that's a 16 min/mile pace...not going to break any land speed records, but not bad in my slow going book!). And I felt darned good at the end. I was breathing hard enough to feel like I got a good aerobic workout but nothing I couldn't handle (certainly could have gone longer if needed). My shin never got beyond kinda painful (it was definitely worse last week after only 5 minutes). So, maybe my legs are starting to get used to the exertion. Anyway, I got my 1.91 (yes, that hundredth of a mile is important!) miles in as planned and at almost a minute/mile faster pace over all compared to last week. Tomorrow is only a 15 minute block since I'm also doing lower body strength training, but same distance. And great job so far everyone. Remember, this is about percentage completed. Don't let the crazy folks and their 100s of miles concern you. Just do your workouts and push yourself as much as you can. Kelley |

I pledged 50 miles .. which is um a little over twice what I did last month. I have never done a Tri, hadn't ever considered doing one and well here I am. I started some biking about 7 weeks ago and then added some running a week later, putting me solidly in the newb catagory. Hi Steve, Don't worry about the number of posts. Some of us just talk more than others. (Yes, I'm speaking about me! I may, or may not, have something to say - but I'll post anyway. LOL) |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Fielding - 2007-10-01 8:44 PM I'm such a dork...I created an avatar to go with our challenge. In my defense, I don't have any photos of me doing anything tri-related (yet!), so I figured if I'm going to put up a pic, I might as well do something for the team, right? Anyway, if anyone else wants a team avatar, go right ahead: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a174/walterfielding/dangerous_app... What a cool avatar! Unfortunately, the East Team was not the winning team on the September Swim/Bike Challenge. As a result, I must now display a TWINKIE avatar for the month of October. Imagine my joy.... And yes, I met my goals. I even exceeded them. In fact, we were ahead for the first half of the month. Then, things fell apart for my team.... And you see the results (aka the TwinkieTar) displayed now.... Although, it's ok---> BECAUSE THE POISON APPLES ARE GONNA WIN THIS CHALLENGE, RIGHT? Yep. We are. And that'll make up for the Twinkie Display. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Spokes I didn't see those donuts in the Nutrition section... you set one of those out at 3 mile increments to get through those long runs or just keep them as a bribe in case you get pulled over speeding to one of your Tri's? Or does your wife set them out to test your resolve, like pizza, ice cream sundays, chewy oatmeal chocholate chip cookies, death by chocholate cake, recees penutbutter chocholate pie and sees candies (my house)? |

Hey, I'm ok with Spokes and the others sneaking onto our Team Thread and posting smack talk. It just means that they're here, playing around.... and therefore, they are NOT WORKING OUT! In fact, I think they should spend 24/7 here, posting trash talk -- and give up working out altogether!
