Good idea. Normally, the captain just plugs in all the numbers, but this way could be a nice change of pace. I'll find out more about the reporting periods, and get back to you all.

I'm glad that most people are liking the Google Spreadsheet idea.  I've tried to add everyone in our group that had a public email address and those that have PM'd me with one.   If I missed anyone or if your address isn't public, please PM me and I'll add you as an editor.

Also, I (or any of us for that matter) can easily add an extra week column if the reporting periods turn out to have 5 weeks.

All about the google spreadsheet, BRILLIANT!!

As was the kickass swim I had today. What'd you do?  Hmm?

Eventhough I need to do 4 workouts over the weekend to catch the hell up. But I still liked my swim.

Is it the plan to enter the info from week#1 on Sunday night?  I'm assuming a week runs from Monday through Sunday (well, Thursday through Sunday for this first week).  I like the Google spreadsheet too, much easier than having to send your info to one person and putting the stress on him/her to log it all each week.  Cool idea!

Today is the greatest. Gorgeous sunshine, fall is peaking, light wind, just beautiful. So...it looks like I've got to fit in....

- sleep. done.
- ride - probably on the trainer in front of Michigan / Michigan State
- sleep. Heh.
- run - on paint creek trail, late afternoon
- IMFL watching - go Jeff, Rick, Mike, T, Joel, Stan and everyone else!!
- food - I've got a mac-daddy prime rib raring to go. Get it?

Today IS the greatest.

Man, these sit-ups / crunches are killing me.  I can tell I haven't done any specific abdominal exercises for about a thousand years.  It's sure going to be easier once I get through this intial week of pain!  I did get my run/walk in this morning and since it's cold and raw and really windy out, I'm off to ride the trainer again.  Mountain biking tomorrow!

Today's schedule includes the Imperial Palace Marathon in Tokyo. My left foot has been acting up since Friday but I'm running anyway. Will just have to see how it holds up. The plan is just to finish. No time goal, no pushing, just take it easy and burn some calories.

For what it’s worth, I’m a co-captain. Rkreuser is the other captain.

So, if you've got a captain and a co-captain, can I double the number of people here?

Actually, I'd like to add just one, if it's ok with you. Madkat just signed on as the 94th participant in the Challenge, and is looking for a team.

Team Spreadsheet "Due Dates"

Hi all,

The Challenge started on Nov 1st and ends on Nov 30th. So all of your workouts during the month of November will count.

The first "week" will be longer than 7 days. But the final week will be shorter.

So here are the "weeks" you'll use for reporting your workouts:
Thurs Nov 1 - Sunday Nov 11 *
Mon Nov 12 - Sunday Nov 18
Mon Nov 19 - Sunday Nov 25
Mon Nov 26 - Friday Nov 30

The "progress reports" (aka spreadsheets) will be due from the team leaders on these days:
Monday Nov 12
Monday Nov 19
Monday Nov 26
Saturday Dec 1st

The extra day is so that the team leaders can collect the end information without having to nag their team become overly stressed.

* This does not mean you can wait until Nov 10th to start working out! LOL

Team Leaders - you can post the updated spreadsheets on the main Challenge thread. (This is the one with the push pin sticky. Since it's pinned to the top of the forum, it'll be easier to find. And I think the "chatter" on it will calm down soon.)

And if you're all wondering why your teams are so full.... Well, as of tonight, we have 94 people participating in the challenge!

Dee

Thanks, David!

BTW, did you need to do anything special to allow your spreadsheet to be pubically viewed?

I just learned about google docs, and I'm put our team's spreadsheet up, too. However, Google won't let me view it unless I'm logged in.

Here's what I did:
a) I clicked the "Share" tab.
b) I checked the box for "Anyone can view this document at:"

Google said it was published and available at: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=puhAA5NRKHA1WLsma93eYbw

However, when I log out and try to view the document, Google won't let me see it until I put my userid and password back in.

Any suggestions?

THANKS!
Dee

I'm not sure why you can't view it when you're not logged on.  I can view your sheet when I'm not logged on.  Also, in order to allow editing, you need to add "collaborators" by adding their email addresses.  Then these collaborators can edit the document.

Ha, that's bizarre!

I wonder why you can see it, but I can't. It could be my browser. I'll give it a try with a different one.

OK, I've got my Google issues figured out. Thanks!

I know that your team already has their spreadsheet online, but the others didn't. So I've put them all up.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=puhAA5NRKHA3l_GNYwG3Qdg

The version I put up isn't something that people can edit (yet). It's just for viewing purposes. Just click on a team name to view everyone's progress.

Each week, I'll update the spreadsheet and upload it to Google again. That way, everyone can see their progress.

Again, I know this applies less to you than to the other teams.... But I'm giving you the information, anyway.

I have to say, Max, you're the reason I even joined this challenge in the first place... I was visiting your log and saw your goals.  What's up with the "one kiss"?

Since I just joined, and I've been a total slug for the last two weeks, all I have to report so far is that I've done 25 ball crunches (which was quite an accomplishment, I'll add).  But I have a 12k race tomorrow, so that should get my run numbers moving.  And I'm riding my bike to the race and back, so that'll help my ride numbers too.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to 5 for Fighting Karen. We've all certainly had our share of slugidness (I like to make up my own words). That's what this challenge is all about. Getting ourselves out of our chairs and out there doing a little something.

We've got a great group here. You should fit in nicely!

Heh!  OK, so it ends up being somewhat more than that.  At least I'm reminded to get as many as possible.  When you're an old geezer, you take advantage of things like that, before you're too old to remember how to do it.

Have fun in the race this weekend!!

Hi Everyone!

It’s Sunday, the day when you’d usually be reporting your achievements for the week. So even though the spreadsheets aren’t due this week, please feel free to brag about how great your workouts have been! This challenge is about achieving your goals -- so let's hear how you've done!

Each week, I'll give you a quick summary of what's been happening. This is another idea that I stole borrowed from Cat. (Thanks Cat!)

There are now 96 people participating in the challenge! We have 7 teams, so each of the teams has gotten quite large. (Team leaders, if you want help compiling everyone's results, feel free to ask for an assistant-captain!)

While you've been assigned to a team, please DO feel free to visit the other teams! In fact, Teams 6, 7 and 8 seem to have merged into one large extended "BT Party Central." If you haven't already done so, stop by and join the party!

Team1 - The Moscateers
This entire team is together by request! There are about a million members of the Mosc family here, resulting in the team's adopting a new name and motto: The "Moscateers" all for one and one for all. This team also has our youngest participant, 9 year old gidgetintraining. Comet_the_dog had jury duty and his Dad is in the hospital, however it's also his 15th Wedding Anniversary. What a week, huh?

Team2 - The Vigilantes
Lawyerchick (Meredith) is a newlywed. (Congratulations!) Fielding (Erin) will be doing her first Tri on Nov 11th! (Good luck, Erin!) And Jessicacrouchrt (Jessica) recently completed her own first Tri. (Great job, Jess!)

Team3 - The Turkey Terrors
After much debate, the team decided to call themselves The Turkey Terrors. Team Leader nccgrap (Ryan) is a high school science teacher, so he should be able to whip motivate this team into shape! Atlantia (Laura) is training for her first marathon in January, so she's set a high running goal this month. And we learned that SAHM means "Stay At Home Mom."

Team4 - The Nonexistant Team
When I combined Team4 and Team5, I put them under the Team5 name. So this team exists only in your imagination!

Team5 - 5 For Fighting
This team has members from all over the world! (Yes, I know the Dynamic Aussie Duo is on a different team. I'll get to them in a minute.) This team even has the BT tri-talk, iron-distance, and COJ forums moderator, rkreuser (Rick). He claims to have read every post on BT for the last 3 years. (I don't believe him however, as keeping up with my posts alone is nearly an impossible task!) Bhoover10001 (Brian) announced his secret goal of beating his 16 year old daughter in a triathlon. Whoops, so much for secrets! When Rzzqb8 (Robin) decared her running goal, she thought she was crazy, until she looked at her team's goals, and saw they're just as insane.

Team6 - They Who Shall Not Be Named (TWSNBN)
Ooooh boy. Where to start? This is BT Party Central Headquarters. Also known as "They Who Shall Not Be Quiet", this team is currently on page 18 of their thread. (Plus, these "BT addicts" also have an additional 4 pages on their previous "generic team" thread. Can they talk, or what?) So far, the women of TWSNBN have gotten all 3 male teammates to post photos of their naked legs. Wow! Now there's discussion of a BT Calendar. (Seriously!) HCS5QA (Hector) even tells us when he's about to jump in the shower. Team leader LastCall2003 (Beth) has her hands full with this team. (Or maybe she's the one instigating the trouble!) If you haven't already done so, stop by and enjoy the fun!

Team7 - Team Wild Hippos
Home of two hot Aussie women, kaqphin ("Super Cat") and light_sabe_r (Maddy), this team also features a bunch of former Posion Apples, the first team to achieve 100% of the goals in last month's challenge. Look out everyone, this team is MOTIVATED. In fact, Lyssa-gator (Lyssa) has issued a challenge --> Who can be the first person to 25% of their goals? Want to take her up on this? Stop by the Team 7 thread and let her know. Better hurry, because jasonbohn9 (Jason) has already counterchallenged by saying he could achieve 25% by Tuesday!

Team8 - Hard Core Tri Corps
Led by fearless leader BunnyB (Melissa) aka "General Bunny", this team has four California members! TriAya (Yanti) finished a 23 mile run, and delcared it "sweet and smooth." Mbmoran2 (Brian) declared his long term goals are to qualify for the Boston Marathon and tackle the Ironman. This team has some impressive performers! Crabsrule (Brenda) discovered what it's like to race on hills and in hot weather. This team always welcomes visitors, so come in and say hello. If you stop by though, be forewarned that TriAya (Yanti) aka "Sergeant Doberman" may assign you a team job! (Don't worry, you can handle it!)

From BT News Headquarters, this has been your weekly Challenge update.

Dee

Hows everyones weekend training gone.

I'm afraid I missed getting my best chance at a PB (by miles) and have not done any of the core workouts yet. I promise to make a start on them tomorrow. Apart from that I have had a great weekend. Clear dry day in Scotland so I was able to get outside on the bike today and have done half my bike distance already. 3 turbo sessions should take care of the remaining distance so the weather can do what it likes now.

Great job this weekend guys and gals! Way to get the workouts and beer drinking in- there's room for both in a balanced training plan - right Rick?

Congrats on your race madkat!

Pulch- I talked to my parents and they said they saw people out in t-shirts (Scots are hardy folk!). Congrats on getting those bike miles done!

I've had a great weekend. Temps are about 10 degrees above normal here- it was 95 degrees yesterday- yikes! So I got my training done early. Saturday was an 8 mile run and today I did a transition workout with my tri club- 0.5 mile run flollwed by a 4.5 mile bike- repeat 5 times trying to keep your transitions fast. Fun stuff!

I've still got a touch of runners knee so I'm going to see a friend for PT tomorrow

I'm still unclear about the spreadsheet but I'll read back through the posts and figure it out.
