Tried to workout today because I've had a cold for the past week and haven't gone in 3 days straight!! I was so weak it was pretty much pointless for me to be there but I'm glad I went anyways. I'm gonna go the rest of the week but take it easy so I can get better. Next week I plan on starting that 1/2 IM training plan so I can do the first month twice. After getting some responses from other people I might change my goal to just a sprint and olympic distance tri for the summer. I figure it would be easier to start training for the 1/2 IM and then scale down if I have to than vice versa.

Hey look at me... I haven't worked out once in December. Don't feel like too much of a slug. I don't even have the excuse of being sick to back it up. I iz just lazy.

Before you drop your goal of doing a half this year lets understand where you are at now. You are a new member and without historical workout logs, prior races, current load, maximum loads, etc. we (your mentor and mentorees) can't give you input without some facts. What is your plan? What does your season schedule look like?

I will be completely honest and say that I am nervous about starting to train for a 1/2 IM... So we are in the same boat. If you are committed to it, you can do it. Yeah, you won't be racing it and you may not podium. But, I don't know about you, I am in this sport for knowing that I acomplished my goals not to win cheapo trophies and metals.

Nothing tonight... Hopefully a run tomorrow am with a little weights thrown in. Sunday hopefully another run but I doubt it.

Saturday is my family's Christmas get together. We all live in Columbus so we do a progressive dinner to everyone's house to see the decorations and eat. We are starting at 2:00pm and probably wont be finished until 11. Gift exchanges, time visitings, eating and travel time. My liver will get a little bit of a work out I know that much.

First off, if you read my Door County Oly RR, you will notice that some races award booze for AG placings, so before training really super hard, you should maybe find out what the prize is

Snoogs, looking at your quest for a HIM, it is not an impossible thing to do.  My young tri career has been a cautious ramp up over roughly 2.5 years to my first IM.  As I learned more about the sport, it was a very structured plan, kinda, as far as knowing what I needed to work on and when it would fit into family life.  That approach yielded pretty decent results for me personally and allowed me to court the idea of triathlon and integrate it as a lifestyle a bit longer.  The HIM can definitely be done this year if you feel you have a strong base/ability in one of the sports and enough proficiency in another one where you can easily bring that up and work on anything that sucks (like I needed to and still need to on the swim).  How bad do you want it, where do you feel your background is base wise and where do you want to go with the sport are things to look at.  Only you know if you are a workhorse ready to throw down big miles or are just getting started.

Well, here's what I'm thinking so far:

Today-get that 1000 yards in I didn't do in the pool yesterday, along with a core work out and maybe some other strength training.  If I don't get to that today, I'll push it for tomorrow.

Saturday-run and strength if I don't get it in today

Sunday-DTC if the other guy isn't in (let me know, k, Joe?)  In all reality, I could switch to Monday if the Mrs is going to be there (I won't let them delete the info, promise).  If it's a no go on the DTC, I'm not totally sure what I'll do on Sunday.  Hmmm...

Going to have to keep the train back on the track this weekend.  This cold has absolutely kicked my and has resulted in a 4 day lay-off.

Looks like most of us are week day posters...kinda quiet right now...

Hope you're feeling better both MNDriver and snoog.

So far this weekend hasn't been too bad for me. A good weigh in, so I was thrilled with that. I started some core training yesterday, (Around the World) and believe you me my abs are feeling it! (Along with my obliques, and hip flexors and well, just about everything!) I'm also looking into SimpleFit to start on some strength training...I'm your typical female with poor upper body strength (my push-ups are pathetic!) I have a chin up bar...just need to install it. THAT should be interesting!

I didn't run yesterday, but since I didn't bike today, it works out. So, I'll go for 2 miles today, probably on the indoor track at the gym. As much as I would like to run outside, I just don't trust my own footing in the snow and ice we've received.

I'm excited for this week. On Tuesday I'm going to be having a lesson with a former competitive swimmer. My swimming has improved DRASTICALLY over the past year (this time last year I couldn't even put my face in the water) but I would really like to have someone watch me and give pointers. Should be fun!

Oh, and I think I'm well on my way to my goal of NOT gaining 10 lbs over Christmas this year...

Great job Maggy.  That is some great preogress you are making.  Just spent a little time in your logs also.  You are really doing an amazing job.  Keep up the hard work and you'll be seeing the 100# loss darn soon.

Mine was good.

Saturday's run was good. Nice to get back at it. My family's Christmas get together was nice even with the snowing, sleeting, icing and raining mess that we had to drive through.

Sunday was a nothing day where I just recovered from eating and drinking way too much. I also picked up my Christmas present with my wife which is a CycleOps Fluid 2 trainer. I am really excited about it and ready to get back on my bike in January.

Today was a blah morning. I slept horribly and did not make it to the gym. Tonight is finishing my wife's Christmas shopping.

We finalized our holiday plans. Christmas with just my Mom and Dad on Saturday, my parents and the in-laws over for Christmas Eve dinner and service, back up to the in-laws on Christmas Day and finally back home on the 28th. New Year's Eve will be spent at the local bar with my brother, SIL and a couple friends.

Kickin Azz.  After being down and out for 4-5 days I got back into the swing of things this weekend and then hammered home a great work-out tonight.  Other than my hammie turning into the equivelent of Joes famous kickballs towards the end of my swim I had an awesome endorphin pumping work-out.
