Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: January Challenge - Running - Distance Team A Okay, guess I'm assigned to this team! My goal for the month is 250 miles. I've got over 300 scheduled but I know that I'll more than likely not hit every mile planned on the schedule, so 250 is a more realistic number. Regardless, anything over 210 or so will be a new monthly record for me! I'm trying to go for a sub-3 marathon in the beginning of March with an aggressive plan from Advanced Marathoning by Pfitzinger and Douglas. Assuming I hit all the training milestones (and can recover from the next 8 weeks of hard training) I should be in a position to go for it!! |

Good luck with the sub 3 marathon, that's an impressive goal. I'm just going for my first marathon, so we'll see what happens. |

This will be a new monthly record for me, and what a time to do it, could the weather be any worse ? I am planning to do my first IM in the beginning of September, but I thought it would be a good idea to do a Marathon first, the longest I have ever run is 23k. So I really need to get running |

Master 1903 Portland, Oregon | Subject: RE: Loving every mile aka L.E.M. Hi Everybody! An "L" team - very cool! Conveniently, my name is Leigh so it looks like I'll fit right in. Hubby and I are training for a 1/2 mary in April, so my (slightly sandbagging) goal is 65 miles. I did finally learn to allow for an extra rest day now and then. First run of 2008 is scheduled for this evening. We'll be gritting our teeth and runnin' in the rain. BUT, dinner is Mediterranean Lamb Curry and it's in the crockpot right now. Mmmmmmmmmm!! Happy New Year to everyone!! |

Thanks. I wish I ran like I did a year ago but I had some injuries and as you get older it is harder to bounce back. |

Unless I'm reading your 1/2 marathon race report from last year wrong, you're in the 30 - 34 age group??? Jeez, what does that make me in the 35 - 39 group ... ancient?? |

Extreme Veteran 466 | Subject: RE: Loving every mile aka L.E.M. Wow Rick that is some mileage goal! I tried the under 55 per week plan for WDW/Jacksonville but ended up injured because I didn't have the miles in my legs prior to starting to back it up. Now I likely am not doing the Breast Cancer Marathon in Jacksonville due to academic requirements. Lazy Town "I am a Pirate" sounds like a kid's TV show we have here in the States called The Backyardigans. I hope that the US is benign. Generally that's done looking for hydronephrosis which is rare in a younger adult without stones. My running plan for the month is slow but steady but half my miles will come in one weekend. That is the beauty of Goofy- half mary Sat, mary Sun. I'm doing it with the same two guys as last year and we had a great time. BTW, it is NOT necessary to have run a standalone marathon prior to your first Ironman. They are totally different beasties. My first IM was Lake Placid 2002 and first mary without the warmup was Ottawa 2003. |
