Hi all, I'm new to the thread but have been trying to read through all the pages.  I can't wait to get my training kicked into full gear next week.

I have a question......do any of you use Infinit?  I've only done one half iron and I used perpetuem but am looking to change.  I don't really like gels or bars.  I know there is a pre-packaged bottle for both the run and bike.  Do you use those or have y'all created your own formula?  Will I need electrolytes in addition to what Infinit provides?  Sorry for all the questions but any help would be much appreciated!!

Josh- Welcome. I only had Infinit at one event in 2004-05-ish? It was a new concept at the time. Other than that...no. Sorry.

Welcome Josh!  I don't use Infinit because I like to keep it simple and live off the course if at all possible.  Have you ever tried Hammer Gels?  They are excellent.
I do know several people who use Infinit and they swear by it.    They all have come up with their own formula.  Go to the inifinit web site and it will help you come up with the correct mix.

Jed- I used Infinit last year and the product worked well. You have to find out what formula works best for you. Make sure you get with a rep to help you come up with your formula and this will all depend on sweat rate, amount of carbs, protein, etc. Infinit works because the fuel, electrolytes, and everything you neded for fueling you will have it in one drink.

To me, Infinite is the simplest possible way to race (speaking of keeping it simple)... one product that has EVERYTHING in it - and is customizable right down to caffeine amounts and strength of flavor. Don't have to worry about gels, sports drink, salt, or anything else. Just Infinite and water. Boom!

I've met Dan a few times.  Even went for a short run with him when he had a business trip to my town.  He's a good guy and super knowledgable.  Congrats on taking the coaching plunge!  I'd love to, and would definately consider Dan if the wallet allowed.

Hey folks, thanks for the warm welcome.  Saw the posts on Infinite.  I've used Perpetuem at my last two halves and usually I still seem to be starving before I get off the bike.  I guess I feel like I need something solid on my stomach and the perpet just wasn;t cuttin' it.  Yet I understand GI issues can become a problem, especially looking at the longer distance of IM.  I like the idea of a all-in-one solution of infinit but I'm open to suggestion here.  I'd like to start trying some new nutrition strategies now so I have time to formulate a good plan before raceday.

Off to Orlando for our annual super bowl cruise on Sunday. Freedom of the Seas this year out of Coco Beach. Last chance to put on pounds before the ax falls on seirous training.
Starting up with coach once I return, should be interesting.
Warm thoughts to all!!

EXPERIENCING BUMPS ON THE ROAD TO IRONMAN LOUISVILLE.

I thought I had addressed my Achilles issue well enough from October until now by taking October to December off, and then by introducing running to my training gradually, as well as icing, rolling, and stretching. Today my Achilles was sore the entire run. It was never terribly painful, but sore nevertheless. So, I've decided to take 3-4 weeks off to ice and "rest" it. Therefore, I'll be picking up my cycling milage to take up the fitness slack.
I am discouraged, and aggrivated, truth be told, but I'm going to try to keep a positive outlook and move forward the best I can.

Peace,
~Sam

golfpro - 2011-01-23 1:41 PM This is Motivational!

Not in the mood to get out there and just do it? there are No Excuses!

Thanks golfpro! I watched the no excuses vid a few days ago and it came in handy today. I was at the pool trying to get the motivation to swim (ok, I admit, I was warming up in the hot tub...) and I starting thinking that maybe I shouldn't today because I was really tired, and also because I start my official IM training plan tomorrow, oh and also because the water is cold and wet... When I heard that last excuse go through my head it sounded really lame and I remembered the no excuses video. Then I imagined myself saying all my excuses out loud in a really whiny voice and they all sounded really pathetic. I finally got in and "just did it." I felt like crap in the water, but that is because I have been neglecting my swimming recently in favor of longer bike rides. I really just need to do it more and it will feel a lot better.

I am really excited today because yesterday I finally got my bike fit to me (lots of changes had to be made and it is MUCH more comfortable now) and tomorrow I start the training program dictated by my coach! We are just 30 weeks out guys, GET EXCITED!!

Thanks to Rachel and several others on here, for pointing me toward "Be Iron Fit".  Looking forward to officially starting my 30 week training plan tomorrow (I guess technically Tuesday, given Monday is the "off" day)!

Should be a great 30 week journey!

I'm using this one too!! I love a plan that starts on a rest day.  Been planning ahead and already have a few time conflicts on the swim days. I can get the swim in before work but trying to fit the ride in later in the day will be tough. Time to start honing my time management skills. Usually it's one of the kids activities that will take priority in the evenings.

Peter,

Good luck with the plan and the training.  This is my first IM, so I'm quite excited and nervous at the same time, regarding the upcoming demands of the plan.
