Was 2nd OA behind our local pro Lewis Elliot. Went 2:04 and change. Rode a 58:57 and swam a 22 low, very happy with that. Very cool! And fast! |

Member 113 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED I went and pulled my adductor muscle in my shoulder at the gym the other night, talk about painful! So no swimming for me for a little while, good thing im mostly training for running events at the moment haha. My chiro tells me i was over doing it on the weights and has suggested i swap from gym workouts to something like Yoga/Pilates since its mainly core muscles i want to work on. Anyone have experience in either of those? |

They haven't posted the results but I finished in 2:51 good for 4th in the 40+ clydes. I don't know where to start.. but I know I have work to do if I want to do more of these longer distances. The waves were tough on the swim and I swallowed alot of water. The run was interesting for me. The tide was coming in so I ran a little more than half barefoot and I had a blister on my toe. The worst part is that I had to go to the bathroom from mile two on in the run. I actually ran through the finish to the bathroom. Note to self no corn on the cob the night before a tri. It was a great day and great race but the high surf and the beach run made it tough. I survived! when they post the results Ii'll post them
Awesome finish man!!! that is great!!! |

Any of you see anything interesting in the wilds while training? Ran over a squirrel Sat morning, at like 25mph, both wheels went thump thump, i turned around and the little bugger was running into the woods. |

My goal was 2:05, but I'm happy with my time. I've only been running for 9 mos. and I gave 100% during the race. It was pouring the entire time....about 58 outside. There were 20000 people racing, so there was tons of energy in the crowd (made it really hard to get water at the stops though). I tried to push myself really hard the last 2 miles, but I was soooo spent. My kids did the dash on Saturday. It was super cute! I can't get the pics up here for some reason. They won't paste. Anyone know why? I'm taking another day off tomorrow. My groin is a tad sore (held up fine during the race) and my kneecaps are throbbing. I'm going to spend the day resting and playing with my kids. Hope you all had a productive, fun weekend! Nice job at the race. With your consistency, the times are just going to go down. Rest up today (rest, recover, repeat). |

Anyone have experience in either of those? Both are really good add ons for run / tri training. I really like the book The Athlete's Pocket guide to Yoga (http://www.amazon.com/Athletes-Pocket-Guide-Yoga-Flexibility/dp/1934030414/ref=cm_lmf_tit_7_rsrsrs0), it lets you pick a problem area (e.g. tight hips) and gives you a progression to use to work through the issue. |

Madge running the race (green t shirt & pink shorts) The whole family (Freddie didn't want to be held and wouldn't look at the camera). The race was held on the Cleveland Browns' football field. My kids were in the 4-6 yr age group, and they ran 1 length of the field. There were over 500 kids at the event. It was pretty cool! |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Some days my part time job at the newspaper is a pain. But this weekend it will pay off as the HS Boy's baseball team earned a berth at the state tournament in St George-Hey my tri is there too and the paper is going to pick up my travel costs, meals hotel mileage and I will cover it as well while I am down there. Actually will need my husband go shoot the championship game if they make it. |

You could say that This probably isn't the best time in life to be pursuing triathlon, but I had this feeling that it was now or never. Something just convinced me that I had to try NOW. I always wanted to do one, and after I gave birth to Frederick, I needed to find something for myself - something that was all mine. Since I've been training and running races, I've been a much better mother. Maybe it's because I take some time for myself. Maybe it's because I burn off all the frustration I feel on a daily basis. It's really become an amazing thing for my family. My children are now interested in swimming & running. I have a feeling at least one of them will take up triathlon as a sport (or even just as a hobby). It's really cool. I'm happier than I've ever been. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED For those of you that asked about the DeSoto . .. have yet to try, still trying to send to get altered a bit, but it is the most slimming wetsuit (don't know if guys care) I have ever tried. Seems to have more movement in the shoulders without feeling stressed. Got an olympic here in less than 3 weeks and think that water is going to be so, so cold! There was so much wind and rain this past weekend, some of the tris cancelled the bike portions of thier events. 1/2 marys had to run in 40 mph gusts! Glad mine was last weekend |

That pic was a few minutes after my first zero-mph crash when I went to dismount. Legs weren't cooperating after 2+ hours of climbing without stopping I guess. Here's my garmin data if anyone is interested: Down - Descending Sandia Crest Had fun today, not sure I care to do it again anytime soon, though A few pics from the overlook:

I think that while lots of people want to be triathletes, you need you to be prepared before taking the plunge. I believe anyone can do it, but it may take some people longer to get to the start line than others. |

I don't think the issue is who is and isn't an official finisher, but whether you should toe the starting line when you pose a risk to yourself and others. |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Man, that's quite a bit over the cut off time, isn't it? I mean, good for her for toughing it out, but yeah, that opens up a whole can of worms in regards to safety and liability I'd imagine. |
