My new boss is a fan of it, but the company does not officially support it.
For example when the snow storm hit last month he encouraged us to work from home and show we were productive so he could go to bat for this privilege in the future. 

Since then there have been a few times where him and another co-worker have worked from home for a morning or what not, while taking care of a sick child or waiting on a repairman. That's the kind of stuff we SHOULD be able to do but are over-cautious because of dinosaur company policies and culture.

However...that whole "its not fair to everyone" is a bit of BS. There are certain positions that can (and have the ability) to telecommute. If a someone can, then they should be allowed to.
