Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed Originally posted by jennifer65 Thanks to you all for your encouraging words about my race. And for all the hints and tips about wet suits. I am still training - and am wondering daily about my ability to do the HIM in September. But I shall manfully train as if I am confident of completing it at the moment. My next race booked is a sprint in July. This will be a sea swim (wetsuit action again!!), bike and then partly by the beach run. The two best things about this race (although I haven,t done it before) is the 5pm Saturday afternoon start and the free pint of beer afterwards. It would be rude not to. I love the way that on this forum you discuss the best places to do an ironman ( Colorado or not) rather than your abilities to finish one. I do need to get my head to that way of thinking. You are all great. thanks again Jennifer Sounds like a fun race Jennifer!! |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed My 2 hour ride was shortened to 1:20 due to a meeting being moved up while I was on the bike, good thing I opted for the trainer or I wouldn't have gotten that. Maybe I can squeeze the rest of it in after work. If the spreadsheet is still accurate it looks like Jaime, Bill and Dwayne are racing this weekend! Good luck and have fun!! Anyone racing that isn't on the spreadsheet? If you haven't updated it you can go here to add to it. |

Expert 1146 Chugiak, Alaska | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed I am trying to decide whether to add a race to the schedule for next weekend. It is an off road (xterra style) sprint. I just haven't been on my mountain bike much in the last couple years. I plan on riding the trails next week while both my kids are in camp (yeah) and then decide whether I am ready based on the difficulty of the trails as I have never ridden in this area. I should know by this time next week Went to power class at gym today for the first time in months - going to be sore tomorrow! |

Anyone racing that isn't on the spreadsheet? If you haven't updated it you can go here to add to it. happy birthday Ken! I am still racing the sprint Du i registered for, but really second guessing my choice to not do the tri. I did this tri last year and the lake is small, shallow, and smelled of sulpher. But what the heck? I smell worse than sulpher after a morning run anyway, and at least I would have comparable times to compete against myself :-). In the Du the first run leg is only 1 mile, so that should be interesting... I am totally undertrained to "race" next weekend's HIM so I'm just going to treat the day as some alone time for a long training session... Enjoy your racing/training everyone! |

It just might be an option. http://www.303triathlon.com/Boulder-IM-Approved Officially announced this morning!! August 3rd, 2014 will be the date. Since that is my wedding anniversary registering for that would go over like a fart in church, so I will have to watch from afar! Maybe in 2015! Edited by kenj 2013-06-21 10:14 AM |

Member 18 | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed Well, it may have taken forever, but I finally got around to putting my races on the spreadsheet. I'm doing an olympic on Sunday, and my family is actually going to be out here from Rochester and watching me race, which is definitely nice. Training this past week has been a little off. My knee issue has been getting better, but I’ve still been limited as far as running. Biking has been going well though. On Tuesday I did my first century, which was an amazing time. The cycling club at my office does a summer solstice ride on long island each year, and this year we decided to include a 100 miler. So our group took the ferry across Long Island Sound and rode from Orient Point, through Shelter Island, out to Montauk Point and then back, with a few little loops for mileage. I ended up in a group of 5 of us that rode off the front at about the halfway point, so I was pretty happy to keep up with them, especially because I didn’t know how it would go being my first 100 mile ride. All in all, it was definitely better than spending 8 hours sitting at my desk. |

Member 258 | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed Wow, your ride sounds amazing! I'm nervous about my first duathlon on Sunday, also tweaking a little bit from not enough training this week and trying to figure out the rest of my summer now that my "A race" swim got cancelled. Think I'm going to do another Oly in 3 weeks, but not sure how to plan the training between here and there. Suggestions? Jaime |

Jaime At first, I was excited when I saw your next race in Las Vegas! then...it said, "New Mexico". *bummer* Hmm, I would just do what you did for your A race, and just do the workouts that you were supposed to do three weeks prior to race and go from there. I would just pretty much put in some time in the saddle, and time running. Maybe this weekend or next weekend put in 6-7 mile run. Put in 25-30 mile bike a couple times with a short run (2-3 miles) afterward, and you'll be fine. |

I would try and train 2 to 3 times in each sport, better to be 3 if you can. Get a couple of 6 - 8 mile runs in (one per week) then the other 2 runs 3 -4 miles with some strides in one of them between 5 and 10K pace. Do some harder effort bike intervals along with an over distance ride or 2. Swimming just work on form and quality swimming. The week of the race give your self 2 days from your last run, and it shouldn't be more than 3 or 4 miles. 1 day total rest. |

Expert 1146 Chugiak, Alaska | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed So proud of my hubby today! He finished the Garrett County Grand Fondo Diabolical Double - 125 miles, 16,500ft of climbing. 10 1/2 hours in the saddle (12 hrs overall). Due to the logistics (me in Anchorage and race in Maryland) I wasn't able to be there with him, which makes me sad. Hopefully he knows I wish I was there to celebrate with him. |
