Originally posted by jennifer65 Thanks to you all for your encouraging words about my race. And for all the hints and tips about wet suits. I am still training - and am wondering daily about my ability to do the HIM in September. But I shall manfully train as if I am confident of completing it at the moment. My next race booked is a sprint in July. This will be a sea swim (wetsuit action again!!), bike and then partly by the beach run. The two best things about this race (although I haven,t done it before) is the 5pm Saturday afternoon start and the free pint of beer afterwards. It would be rude not to. I love the way that on this forum you discuss the best places to do an ironman ( Colorado or not) rather than your abilities to finish one. I do need to get my head to that way of thinking. You are all great. thanks again Jennifer

Sounds like a fun race Jennifer!!

My 2 hour ride was shortened to 1:20 due to a meeting being moved up while I was on the bike, good thing I opted for the trainer or I wouldn't have gotten that.   Maybe I can squeeze the rest of it in after work.

If the spreadsheet is still accurate it looks like Jaime, Bill and Dwayne are racing this weekend!  Good luck and have fun!!

Anyone racing that isn't on the spreadsheet?  If you haven't updated it you can go here to add to it.

I am trying to decide whether to add a race to the schedule for next weekend. It is an off road (xterra style) sprint. I just haven't been on my mountain bike much in the last couple years. I plan on riding the trails next week while both my kids are in camp (yeah) and then decide whether I am ready based on the difficulty of the trails as I have never ridden in this area. I should know by this time next week

Went to power class at gym today for the first time in months - going to be sore tomorrow!

happy birthday Ken!

I am still racing the sprint Du i registered for, but really second guessing my choice to not do the tri. I did this tri last year and the lake is small, shallow, and smelled of sulpher. But what the heck? I smell worse than sulpher after a morning run anyway, and at least I would have comparable times to compete against myself :-). In the Du the first run leg is only 1 mile, so that should be interesting...

I am totally undertrained to "race" next weekend's HIM so I'm just going to treat the day as some alone time for a long training session...

Enjoy your racing/training everyone!

Officially announced this morning!!  August 3rd, 2014 will be the date.  Since that is my wedding anniversary registering for that would go over like a fart in church, so I will have to watch from afar!  Maybe in 2015!

Not sure I could take the altitude. Will be interesting to see the pro field for Boulder since so many train there - perfect set up for Kona. Interesting they're also doing a 70.3.

1hr 15 min run this am...heading for an OWS this evening....last day of school..ugh!!

Wow - your kids are just now getting out of school??? Mine have been out for a month already! The "I'm bored" and messy house are getting to me - wait hmmm..... I think I have a solution!

4 mile run and some stretching on the plan for today.

Well, it may have taken forever, but I finally got around to putting my races on the spreadsheet. I'm doing an olympic on Sunday, and my family is actually going to be out here from Rochester and watching me race, which is definitely nice.

Training this past week has been a little off. My knee issue has been getting better, but I’ve still been limited as far as running. Biking has been going well though. On Tuesday I did my first century, which was an amazing time. The cycling club at my office does a summer solstice ride on long island each year, and this year we decided to include a 100 miler. So our group took the ferry across Long Island Sound and rode from Orient Point, through Shelter Island, out to Montauk Point and then back, with a few little loops for mileage. I ended up in a group of 5 of us that rode off the front at about the halfway point, so I was pretty happy to keep up with them, especially because I didn’t know how it would go being my first 100 mile ride. All in all, it was definitely better than spending 8 hours sitting at my desk.

Wow, your ride sounds amazing!

I'm nervous about my first duathlon on Sunday, also tweaking a little bit from not enough training this week and trying to figure out the rest of my summer now that my "A race" swim got cancelled. Think I'm going to do another Oly in 3 weeks, but not sure how to plan the training between here and there. Suggestions?

At first, I was excited when I saw your next race in Las Vegas! then...it said, "New Mexico". *bummer*

Hmm, I would just do what you did for your A race, and just do the workouts that you were supposed to do three weeks prior to race and go from there. I would just pretty much put in some time in the saddle, and time running. Maybe this weekend or next weekend put in 6-7 mile run. Put in 25-30 mile bike a couple times with a short run (2-3 miles) afterward, and you'll be fine.

That sounds like a much better way to spend 8 hours! Nice!

Good luck Sunday!!

You will do great tomorrow!  Confidence!

I would try and train 2 to 3 times in each sport, better to be 3 if you can.  Get a couple of 6 - 8 mile runs in (one per week) then the other 2 runs 3 -4 miles with some strides in one of them between 5 and 10K pace. Do some harder effort bike intervals along with an over distance ride or 2.  Swimming just work on form and quality swimming.  The week of the race give your self 2 days from your last run, and it shouldn't be more than 3 or 4 miles.  1 day total rest.

LOL!! It's funny because I went with the B group, and it has been well over a month or two since I rode with them. I ended up front of the pack, I hadn't realized how fast I was hitting on those hills! Good thing I borrowed my friend's Garmin for the time being (my wheels are going to be sold very soon! Someone is very interested, so it's just the matter of getting the money in my pocket!), otherwise, I wouldn't have known about those QOM's!

One check off my Bucket List...I actually didn't really have it there, because it's kind of the furthest ride to go from Las Vegas (an hour drive, it's cooler there vs in the Valley. 78-82 degrees compared to 97-103!), and I did Cold Creek Climb. I wasn't sure how I would do on this ride because I've never done it. All I know it was one tough ride. I was and FELT very strong! I was utterly shocked! The last 3.7 miles was the hardest part. At that point, I was sorta diminishing a little bit. The thinner air was affecting me a little bit. Not too terrible, but enough that it felt like I couldn't get good inhalation.
After a little break to refuel (Someone SAG'd for us, which is totally awesome!!!), we had Ice Pops. GENIUS!! Then what comes up, gotta come down.

I hate the fact that I spin out at 38-40 mph. Drives me nuts!! I also got Speedplay Zero (friend gave it to me for free), so I installed them on my bike yesterday. I'm not sure, but I think it feels like I am much faster and have better power transfer than my Look (the model I have is pretty much the cheapest one). I'm looking forward in getting my Sidi Genius shoes. I feel like my tri shoes are not stable in the heel area. I found a great deal on eBay, so it's an early birthday treat for myself. :D

Hope everyone's weekend/races are doing well!!

So proud of my hubby today! He finished the Garrett County Grand Fondo Diabolical Double - 125 miles, 16,500ft of climbing. 10 1/2 hours in the saddle (12 hrs overall). Due to the logistics (me in Anchorage and race in Maryland) I wasn't able to be there with him, which makes me sad. Hopefully he knows I wish I was there to celebrate with him.
