Maybe it's just work, plus the emotional toll, from this past week. Hopefully, he'll be bouncing back here soon. Do you know if he's going to do the Nov challenge? I so need to think about those teams! Actually, now that I'm looking at the spreadsheet, not all the Apples have signed up. (Not that this is an issue. I'm just commenting on it, because I'm looking at the lists.) |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread The advantage of the expensive socks is that they do not get wet and cause as much friction on your feet, making you less likely to get blisters. However, I don't think any of us run so far on a single outting that this would be an issue unless it were like 120 F out. Which it is not here. I have a pair just to try them out. Shrug they are socks. If I were running a 26 mile marathon... I might wear them. Or if I had chronic problems with blisters. My body fat monitor is clearly is bipolar, but the numbers have gone from 17-18 percent down to 12-13 percent, depending on hydration, so I think that is good. Oh well, I best go bike/run before lunch or I will have to wait another 3 hours and I don't want to do that. Catchya in a bit. |

Of course, once I do that, I'll actually have to go outside and DO it. LOL BTW, I am not putting running in my November goals. Noooooo, nooooo, nooooo. In fact, I'm still not exactly sure what I AM putting in my goals. LOL |

Jason hasn't signed up yet. (Which is fine.) And Erin said that she was thinking about her goals, so she'll be in too. A bunch of people have said they're still working on their goals. So officially, it's you, Steve, Kendra, Kelley, Jessica and me. (6 of us.) I've been working on the teams this afternoon. Steve - how do you feel about being with a bunch of very chatty women? LOL I'm trying to keep you and Lyssa together, since you seem to motivate one another so well. But everytime I play around with it, Lyssa ends up on a chatty team that is full of women. (And once Jason signs up, I'll put him with the 2 of you, too.) Actually, looking at THIS team, he's ALREADY with a bunch of chatty women (and Jason), isn't he? Edited by D001 2007-10-27 5:33 PM |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread I haven't been in a mostly male environment since um undergad dorms, I am used to it. At least the primary topics are not "why all men should die," "why men should never be allowed to hold positions of political power," "how to make men suffer so that they have better empathy for the pain of childbirth," or "why men should suffer because they do not have to go through the complications of menapause." That said, I was able to do 18 miles on the bike in 1 hour and then run a 5k afterwords at a steady 10:44 pace with a small 6.0 mph kick for the last 0.1 miles (yay) Last week I could only do 2 miles before I became concerned about a muscle getting sore in my leg and slowed to a walk. The bike ride had me going over about 10 hills, nice big hills the ones you go down the far side at 40mph and when you go up you wish you had a lower gear on the bike. The bike was very stable at 40mph and I am sure it would be fine at 50 + also.. bigger hills are farther away hrm.. I played with the nutrition a bit. I had a granola bar and 6 oz of water within 10 min of starting the bike and had no stomach issues, had 20 oz over the next hour and finished the run ok without anything else without loss of steam. I probably should have taken another bit of something before the run but oh well. Ninety minutes is not so long that it is a big deal either way. When I bike I try to get 80 to 150 cal every 45 min + 20 oz water, which I have done for up to 4 hours without problems. With just water at about 90 min I start to feel like I should eat something (not reocommended to go that long). Yes I have checked in with BT CA, but the ca boards don't show anything for 08 and there really isn't anything north of Sacramento (300 + miles away) from 07. Most of the closest events are either in Oregon or Reno Nv., Possibly Lake Taho, another hour past Reno (275 miles). I might hit a tri in Wisconsin this summer during vacation. Oh well time to stretch and figure out my day. |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Heya folks...sorry I've been quiet lately. It's been an eventful last 2 days. My accident prone self managed to injure myself (not seriously) Friday night (just before midnight) on a ambulance call in the pouring rain. Was getting something out of a compartment and some idiot came up to ask if I could move the ambulance so cars could get through (I was much nicer in saying no than I wanted to be) and the scoop stretcher (picture below...weighs about 20 pounds) fell out and slammed into my right thumb on the bottom joint (and, yes, I'm right handed) when I had my head turned to said idiot. It was quite painful. After taking the patient to the hospital while icing my thumb and getting the ambulance back to the station, I had to spend the rest of the night (til 6am) doing paperwork and going back to the hospital for x-rays. Diagnosis is just bruising but there could be a slight fracture so need another set of x-rays by an orthopedist.
Add to that the fact I got 2 hours of sleep before having to go back to the station with the largest possible splint for a thumb (the thing went all the way up my forearm...what was the hospital thinking???). We had our open house yesterday....then I had plans last evening so needless to say no work outs. And boy did I need some serious sleep last night. Twelve hours of sleep did this body good. I've already moved to a smaller splint on my own that I bought...but it feels almost fine today...just a little pain if I press on it and really not much visible bruising so I think it's fine thank goodness...didn't want to have to change my Nov. challenge goals to account for no use of my hands. Good news is I put in 2 miles today walking with a little jogging thrown in (very little...just to test my last injury of my calf...good news is no problem there). So just have 2 1/4 miles left to finish this month for my goal so I think I can manage that, especially with the clearing weather. Now time to get some food and catch up on the BT boards. Hope y'all are doing well and finishing the month strong! |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread That was my rest week... and the last day of my sprint training plan. This week is when the pain and suffering begins and I start my homemade Oly plan. I am starting with a 6 day /week plan, but may have to drop the shortest bike distance and maybe the shortest run distance that is incorporated into my longest brick to make it a single brick if I get too fatigued again. I have 2 stand alone runs, 2 stand alone bikes and 2 bricks with 3 days of upper body workout mixed in. And I am out of town Friday and all day Saturday. Which screws up the whole schedule at the begining of the November challenge. It will be hard to get any distance in on Friday as I have a final on Sat. Maybe we will get out early and be home by 5 or 6 pm on Sat. Oh well. Sorry to hear about the thumb, glad that it is on the mend. Glad the 5k is coming a long, it is so nice when you can complete the distance you are aiming at and then only have to work on doing it faster.. I think. Alyssa you need to spill more about the social obligation tonight.. can't just throw that out there and the leave us hanging. Luck on your run, longest run I ever did was when I was royally peaved off about something. It probably would have helped if it were not at night, on the beach, and if it had not been high tide with the waves smacking against the cliff at some places and well if I had turned around 4 miles sooner, but you get the idea. Time for food I'm famished... hrm still have to lose those pounds, maybe just ready for breakfast /brunch in that case. |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Kelley - Ow, ow, ow! It hurts just reading your post! I agree with Lyssa. Just because some jerk only thought of himself, rather than recognizing that when an ambulance shows up, maybe he needs to stop thinking of himself. 12 hours of sleep? Sounds like you needed it! Hope you feel better soon! Lyssa - I'm going to let the teams think of their own names this time! Unlike Cat, I can't think up creative "funny names." So I'm going to let you guys do it yourselves. But YOUR team will have an edge on that. You'll see what I mean when the team rosters get posted. Good luck with your "very weird, very uncomfortable social situation" today. Whatever it is, it sounds, um, unpleasant. Maybe just keep reminding yourself that eventually, the day WILL end, and then it'll be finished. |

Perhaps EVERYONE is nervous? It may not be as bad as you fear.... Since they're adults, it's not like you're walking into a situation where you have to play "mom." So just be "Lyssa." If they were living with you and your husband, it might be more difficult. Because then, you'd have to establish guidelines and rules. But they are just visiting, right? So what if you talked to them as if they were neighbors or acquaintances? You know, since your husband hasn't seen them in so long, it's possible that HE is even more nervous than you. The last time he saw them, they were 10 and 12! Think about how much kids can change during that time - both physically and emotionally. The last time he saw them, they were KIDS, and now they're adults. It's also possible that 2 sons are more nervous about seeing their Dad (who they haven't seen in in 13 years) than they are about meeting you. Can you imagine not seeing your own Dad from the time you were 10 until you were in your 20s? They may be worried about what he's going to say and think of them. So yes, be supportive. And while I don't know all the details - I think that as awkward as it may be for you, I think it's possible that it's even more nerve-wracking for them. Good luck! Don't stress over it too much. Dinner won't last forever. And you never know - it may end up being "better" than you think. Dee |
